Back when the game first released my newest gen console was a series s . I did about as much as you possibly could in my first play through . I got damn near every item ( not all but as much as you can ish in a single go ) looked up so many guides played with almost every style of build . Got torwards the top of pvp . Moved onto new game plus around hour 200 ish and got bored . Personally after optimizing my first playthough i think i kinda killed the game for my self . I still loved but i didnt feel like i had much incentive to keep coming back . Fast forward to this week . Iv got a ps5 and decided randomly to come back to it . Being forced to start from ground zero being on a seperate platform and deciding not to watch build guides so i cant micromanage my self . Also i only know where some of the strong items are i cant like maximize my build and just obliterate everything . Gotta say iv fallen in love again cause i feel like im once again rediscoving everything and piecing together my character how i really want to . While also getting stuck on bosses pushing me out to go discover caves , and other side content to get experince and new gear . The long winded point im making to who ever takes the time to read this . If your bored but wish you could rediscover this game . Play this again but with no guides or max damage style builds , no help . It does in my eyes make the game feel newish again especially when you cant off the top your head be like aieght iv reached this zone i gotta go here here and here to get this items so i can be op .

@Dr.UldenWascht10 ай бұрын
400 hours through multiple playthroughs, I concur it was a fantastic experience. And I agree. It's also unfortunate that the universal praise it got washed away all the valid criticisms that could make the game better. To be honest, I don't know about the UI issues and I certainly have no complaints about the very few loading screens, but I absolutely agree that Elden Ring has a problem with bosses. Aesthetically, they are the best in the series, but mechanically, they have unlimited stamina, no downtime, they input read, and at times, it seems like no thought has gone into player's windows of opportunity for attacks. Elden Ring's boss combat can be summarized in "dodging" & "running away" especially if we are talking about a normal gamer, and that's not entertaining. Sure, you can spend countless hours and memorize every move-set and defeat Malenia with a base level dagger like I did, but that's an unreasonable ask. The flaws of Elden Ring boss design became more pronounced for me when I played Lies of P this year. A game in which you can dodge, perfect guard (parry) and meaningfully block, and effectively combine all of these in a single build. Unfortunately this boss design philosophy won't change, and if I had to guess, the bosses in the DLC and future FromSoftware games will get even more spammy.
@flamingmanure10 ай бұрын
" Aesthetically, they are the best in the series, but mechanically, they have unlimited stamina, no downtime, they input read, and at times, it seems like no thought has gone into player's windows of opportunity for attack" this already addressed by youtubers like lupine and dangjtm, they only have unlimited stam if youre constantly rolling backwards and dont care about your positioning, unlike bb and ds3, positioning and dodge direction takes actual thought in ER, and no offense brah but youre wrong again, its you souls veterans that didnt put much thought into attacking and figuring out ER bosses because you thought they played just like another boring batch of bb/ds3 bosses, considering most footage from ppl like joseph anderson shows them playing the game laughably wrong, like thinking the level caps of older games applies to ER, or constantly panicking/dodging backwards without much thought, or almost exclusively using R1 only and never breaking boss posture, and then making an hour long video about their misguided experiences to mend their hurt souls veteran egos, but im tired of having this conversation with salty souls vets with a couch gaming degree. brah u guys just couldnt figure out and handle elden ring boss design, and its fine to admit that. hopefully fromsoft ignores you guys and keep evolving the boss combat in this direction, because after playing ER, bb and ds3 bosses were underwhelming with only a handful of bosses from each truly impressing me, most of which are paid dlcs. legit the mini bosses like crucible knight are better, more challenging, more complex and fun to fight than half the main bosses of some of the older games ffs XD, imo at the very least. either watch lupine and dang's videos or dont, but you are objectively wrong in alot of what you said about elden ring boss design, youre pretty much just parroting what a few critical souls veteran youtubers have said, and they objectively played the game wrong, playing it like ds3 or bb, as in just throwing a few R1s and backwards dodging 90% of the time, will drag the boss fight and get you killed, ull never break boss posture, which is the true bread and butter of ER. "It's also unfortunate that the universal praise it got washed away all the valid criticisms that could make the game better." youre thinking of bloodborne and sekiro, elden ring's fanbase actually learned to critque what they love, and theres plenty of critique videos that showcase that, even though i think 95% of them are just delusional souls veteran nostalgia. "the bosses in the DLC and future FromSoftware games will get even more spammy." good, fromsoft bosses have only gotten better with each game, and elden ring's main bosses are easily the best ones with only sekiro being on par, its their next step of combat evolution, gone are the days of bb and ds1 where u can strafe and poke alot of bosses to death, now you actually have to think about your positioning and dodge direction, u cant just back off runaway and get a free heal anymore, you actually have to think and choose which attack you use, because again unlike the older games, R1 is just an appetizer attack and sticking with just it will get your ass beaten. u have to jump attack over certain low attacks, use ashes of war, use charged R2s, dodging BEHIND bosses rather than away, dodging towards the blade's direction etc etc, some of this still applies to a few moves from a certain few bosses in bb and ds3 but to a much lesser degree, even the enemies of ER can be tougher than some ds3/bb boss fights if you are playing it just like bb/ds3. margit was a perfect mentor to teach you how to fight elden ring bosses/mini bosses/ heavy enemies, i guess alot of salty souls vets still havent figured out elden ring combat yet and still spread this misinformation because of an arbitrary and imaginary rulebook of bosses fighting "fair".

its objectively more replayable than other souls games, from builds to boss/enemy variety to weapon and ash of war variety, to biomes to the horse to the laughably easier respecing to the batshit insane consumables that no one apparently uses etc etc i got to mountaintops on NG+ in 3 hours-ish, but problem is whether some ppl find re traversing the open world enjoyable again is another thing and thats entirely subjective, some ppl just like more linear maps to replay, makes routing and builds easier, but make no mistake, it is objectively more replayable than the other games on a complexity and content level, lol u have a laughably wider variety of repeated bosses to test your builds on, unlike the older games where u have to replay the entire damn thing just to get to that one boss u really like, there are plenty of really good repeated bosses/mini bosses/heavy enemies to eff around with in ER. as for the repetitive bosses and its "effect" on replayability, thats a silly argument, 1st off 99% of the repeated bosses are optional, 2nd off most of the optional mini bosses/heavy enemies are legit better, more complex, and more fun to fight than half the main bosses of the older games, the only one i didnt love is the goddamn tree spirit salamander, off the top of my head, the Lionel, rune bears, the grave wardens, the black knives, especially the crucible knight alone is better than the entire 1st half of bosses of ds3 barring the watchers and these are just enemies and mini bosses of ER, the main bosses of ER are several leagues ahead of ds3 and especially bb, with bb having the worst lowest quality mid to end game boss stretch in souls PERIOD, none of the games have such bad bosses back to back, shadows into rom into one freakin reborn into the laughably badly designed micolash XD right next to bed of chaos at the top of the crappy souls bosses list. after ER, those 2 games were just...underwhelming. sekiro was the only game that scratched my boss itch after playing a game as high caliber as ER, although i have my complaints of sekiro tbh. gascoine is about the only boss in the first half of bb thats better than crucible knight, thats just how much higher quality elden ring is compared to bb or ds3 imo at the very least. i mean come on what good are the "unique-ness" of a boss when half of them are a bit higher than fodder level, i dont know man i think it was a mistake to play ER and sekiro first as those 2 raised my standards to a ridiculous degree. i basically blitzed through all the fromsoft games after playing ER and the only ones i love to death are ER, ds1 and sekiro. dont get me wrong though bb and ds3 are effin fantastic but after the delusional nostalgia riddled souls veterans overhyped those to high heaven saying theyre better than ER, i went in there with false expectations, as far as im concerned ER is a laughably better game than bb and ds3 in almost everyway but music. im especially dissapointed with bb and their sweaty fanbase...i havent seen a fanbase that bad, delusional and in denial since maybe the classic metal gear days XD!

This game is huge. I knew that before I bought it, but it has to be emphasized. I still underestimated how big it really was and it wasn't until I sunk 35 hours into it that I realised I wasn't ever going to finish it. If you have the time (over 100+ hours) to spare and want to lose yourself in an immersive world with excellent combat, this game is a must-purchase. As such, I still prefer Dark Souls III and Bloodborne, which I find to be much better paced, but that's because I prefer more linear-style games in the first place.
@flamingmanure10 ай бұрын
bb and ds3 arent really better paced though, they both have their own design philosophy in pacing, the pacing in ER is basically almost entirely up to the player, its player-managed, while its developer-managed in bb and ds3, this is kinda why i love ER and ds1 much MUCH more than bb and ds3, felt like bb and ds3 lost alot of charm because of how linear and rigid they are.
@purehollow10 ай бұрын
Actually if you count all the bosses without the repeat encounter you will end up with over 60 different bosses which is bigger than ds1 and ds3 combined, granted some of the bosses are just regular enemies or npcs with a boss health bar but still a huge variety Now if you only count the bosses that don't have repeat encounters you will only end up with only 8 or 9 which is kinda disappointing like at least the 15 rememberance bosses shouldn't have repeat encounter especially astel and mohg and ancestors spirit, I could excuse Margit and Godfrey but not the rest, oh and 46 should have had a more unique moveset and design different from other lighting dragon because currently he isn't worth going through valiant gargoyles and deep root depth just to fight copy of farum azula dragons

Had they stuck with their original plan, we’d just be getting the first dlc give or take a few months, and they’d be starting development for the second. And the second would take another year and we wouldn’t care because we’d have the first dlc to play in the meantime. Only they pulled the first dlc so we have to wait for the second one to finish. I had hoped that From Software would've patched the game, as the "quest" system (or lack thereof) is among the worst I've experienced - and it's odd, as this is otherwise such a robust title. Without guides, there's no way players would know how to move forward on many of the available paths or obtain select items. I enjoyed the game despite it's flaws and, while it was one of my favorites from the year (and possibly all times), I don't necessarily agree that it deserved GOTY. I can see how it might be that for others, though. It's a special game.

thats the point of the game, this argument is tired and frankly im glad fromsoft keep ignoring this, there are alot of other games where they guide you straight to quests and items, this isnt one of them.

It's so great it doesn't have a quest tracker. I love genuine engagement rather than artificial.

60-100 hours to complete game? It took me 224 hours. I just beat the final boss, 3 days ago. Today , still exploring at 242 hours, there is still lots of missed content. 60 hours....lol.

yeah but is is hard because it is hard (fair) or the reason i walked away from any "souls like" games because the stupid nonsense of "i told you to stab them, why are they bethesda sliding to my ba- oh am fucking dead now."

When’s the next fromsoftwares game/souls game coming out, if soon then I’ll save money for that but if not soon I’ll just buy Elden now
@jaredprice582310 ай бұрын
Probably gonna be a ways off. They're working on Elden Ring dlc right now.
@ropocop10 ай бұрын
Elden Ring DLC is next, but judging by the time they’re taking with it it will probably be a huge DLC. FromSoft just released AC6 so between that and Elden DLC I don’t expect any new titles for a couple of years. Absolutely get Elden Ring during the sale if you haven’t played. Best game I ever played.

@@ropocop yeah but I won’t be able to play the dlc since I won’t be able to buy it, if I do finish the game (I’m certain I will pretty fast) I’ll be bored

God of war deserved to win game of the year. I've played both. God if war is better. The story is nearly unbeatable. 2018 gow story is unbeatable. Ragnarok just kept going with the great story and added a rogue lite mode dlc that has phenomenal writing and stories within it. Hours and hours of dialogue, important dialogue in the dlc.

I agree 100%. Elden ring is great, but Ragnarok story and combat is better. Just the dodge speed alone on GOW compared to the delayed dodge of Elden is enough for me when it comes to combat, not to mention combat variety and move sets
