The point of summons is lore based. A big part of the lore is fractured realities that branch out and coexist along similar path lines. Not really, it’s pretty easy to dodge through it’s attacks with a mid equip load, you just have to delay your rolls until the second before it begins to hit. Haven’t been caught by it’s grab attack since my first battle with one, although it’s other attacks are admittedly trickier to avoid. Same thing with the Erdtree Avatars.

If you break his position while he does his exploding attack, his AI breaks and just stands there, and you can wack him all you want until he decides 20 seconds later he's had enough and continues attacking. It's not hard to do, happened to me 3 times when I fought him for the first time without leveling up. If you win when that happens, you feel like you cheated the bossfight, so I fought him 15 or more times

Dark Souls 1 had a very specific vision, and every game after that was sloooooowly working its way towards just inviting your friends to play a more "traditional" style of multiplayer, but always using half-measures and clunky mechanics. For the ulcerated tree spirit, the grab attacks are delayed. If you hang by the sides and roll when his little side arms are near you, you can attack 2-4 times depending on weapon. I used to get scared of them, but they’re not too bad.
