Elden Ring Lore Storytime: Ranni and Blaidd

This was such a great and complicated story to put together. There was so much to be inferred and speculated, and I love how this game doesn't give you everything in a straight manner. You can see the environment and make inferences, but it forces you to connect the dots on your own.

@@blindstrike2557 Not quite. Blaidd was MADE by the greater will and bound to Ranni. He could fend off their confluence for a time but not forever. Which is why Iji trapped him in an evergoal. Iji is a giant. Not specifically made by the Greater Will. And maybe the helm itself was not easily made.

Talked to Ranni the first time after becoming her ally, she asked me to do something somewhere I din't found out at the time. Next time I see her, she is a minuature doll being melancolic saying she loves her companions and then a npc invaded me and she says after I defeat him "that was the last one" And I was like "...Last one from what?" She desapair and I had no idea what the fuck happened until this video lol

Morgott was said to have repelled his army in a lore tab, so it’s safe to assume that the picture was actually showing the Omen King beating the General in a 1v1.

The Ranni/Blaidd quest line is one of my favorites in the franchise, probably only behind Siegmeyer and Sieglinde from DS1. I genuinely felt sad when I had to kill Blaidd. He held out long enough to make sure Ranni was safe through sheer willpower. I'll finish my playthrough wearing his wolf helm out of respect. This is definitely my favorite lore video you've done so far. I'm excited for the next one.

I've been told stuff like how Marika and Radagon were always one person, Renna and Ranni too, and Melina apparently is " them" as well, and Malenia with her daughters, that Maliketh and Blaidd are actual shadows of their empyreans, lots of characters being another characters split off self basically, and also how you have to be born of a "single god" whatever that is, to be an Empyryan, when the game contradicts all of this... For what I can understand about Renna and Ranni, I'd that they are not the same person, Ranni uses the name of Renna when she first meets us, but then she reveals her real name (That being Ranni) when we meet her again, I think it's safe to say that Renna was Ranni's mentor, we know that The Snow Witch set belonged to Rannis mentor (explained on the armor description), and where do we find the set? In Rennas Tower, so I think it's safe to say that Ranni just used the name of Renna to hide her real identity, you know since she is trying to go against the Greater Will and the fingers lol so I don't think they are the same person. And about the Empyrean stuff, I read something that for me is the most logical way to put it without making big assumptions and theories I'll put it here: "The description about twins Melania and Miquella, say that they are empyrean because they are children of a single god. A lot of theories suggest that you must have a single god parent to be empyrean but the lore text doesn't imply this at all. If you force this single god parent theory for Empyrean, you end up forcing a lot of things that are not mentioned and end up contradicting some other things. Instead of forcing that all empyreans must have a single god parent, which is a logic jump in the first place and ends up requiring a lot of assumptions and irregularities in the lore; let's just assume that empyrean is something like a recessive gene. If both parents are empyreans, you are very likely/sure to be an empyrean. If just one parent is an empyrean, you are sure to be a demigod, but rarely, the child will be an empyrean, just like Ranni." -quick20minadventure

@@AaronCordova-sq4to - Yes, Renna was a mentor of Ranni, the dolls are detailed after her, although of course just an artistic vision becouse she didn't actually have four hands and blue skin, and demigods are being hunted down with Ranni being considered dead, it's easy to understand why she is hiding - Radagon and Marika have very much separate stories, with her being a numen girl, and him a being from a race believed to be descendant of giants (both races are available as preset for your character), it's impossible for many events to transpire without the two being in two places at one time, and while there is dialogue pointing towards splitting, they are still in one body switching between personas in the final fight, and as almost everything suggests, they merged at some point - good explanation, outside of who Empyryans actually are, Ranni outright tells you they were chosen by their own two fingers, of course, Miquella and Malenia being twins born from one mother was what made them Empyryans in the first place, the reason they were chosen that is, and Empyryans are just contestants to ascend into godhood pooled from the demigods

I got it spoiled for me that I would have to kill Blaidd to get his armor, which was what I was hunting for for over a week in the game. I heard that he went insane, so I just said, "At least I can put him at rest" and held it in my heart that I had to do it. But when I saw Blaidd stand up after waiting for me to arrive for so long, and he said, "I could never betray Mistress Rani" I broke down man. I actually started crying while fighting him because I had no idea how strong of a person he was. I love my Best Bro Blaidd, and I wear his armor so I can bring him with me to become Elden Lord

I have a thing for wolves and wolf styled armors/weapons, think their incredible creatures so when i seen/learned of Blaidd? i fell inlove. Watching this video and getting a much stronger understanding of Blaidd's part in the story just makes me wanna cry because he's such a good boio! the goodest boy q.q. Even when he was being overtaken by madness...he kept his vows to Ranni... Literally played Elden Ring just to get all of Blaidd's gear and after that? sat there looking at myself like "yeah i'm pretty happy now. don't need to play anymore." LOL of course i did play more but the point is after that? no other armor really caught my attention regardless of stats. Not to mention this indepth breakdown of their story makes me appreciate Blaidd's armor 100x more.

I honestly refuse to remove Blaidds armor he was the goodest of boys and now dawned in his armor I carry the weight of his memory and the strength of his loyalty so that though he may no longer be with us Blaidd will be present in memory and spirit to see his ladies dream fulfilled.

This is both relaxing and enjoyable to listen to. Not to mention the well researched and placed together bits and pieces of lore. Well done! I guess many other people here have pointed out that Ranni had to sacrifice her own brother, Radahn, and her other 'brother' Blaidd in her quest to reach true freedom from the two fingers. The funny thing is, Radahn waged war upon the stars despite the stars being the source of power for the bigger part of his mother's family, including his own sister Ranni. And strangely enough, he kept the stars in place, which basically weakens him, and yet still participated in the shattering war anyway. I don't know whether he did so out of necessity(Radagon or Two Finger's order perhaps?), or just to flex his might. Either way Malenia still saw Radahn as a foe that she wouldn't be able to defeat without having to rely on her rot infected blood. She pretty much swallowed her own pride and rendered all of Miquella's efforts to treat her in vain, just to remove Radahn from the war. I don't know why she participated in the war either, considering that an empyrean is always meant to become a consort of the Elden Lord (at least, according to Ranni). Either she's protecting her own and Miquella's great runes, or Radahn was probably among the many who intended to seek Miquealla to make him their consort.

There is SO much background with the demigods, it’s really amazing how huge the universe is given how little you’re actually explained. You can see the aftermath and you are told what happened but rarely are you explained why. It’s just “he fought the stars and won” and you have to think, what was he accomplishing? Was he just bored and cocky and wanted to prove he could do it, even if it affected his own life? Lots of interesting questions. It’s a lot of fun reading everyone’s different ideas.

@@kitetales Very true! It's been fun and mind provoking indeed. Having finished Millicent's questline and then obtained Miquella's Needle (after great many tries), I wish we can use the needle to save Blaidd instead... since I barely had any use of it... the needle was meant to ward off outer entity's influence, surely it'll work against the two fingers... right? Anyways, it's just a wishful thought on my part. I've subbed, and will check the other videos soon
