Nicest dude. I always assumed that ranni and rogiers coincidental sleep is actually death… and it’s an indication of the effects of coming in contact with death. Since rogiers living body came in contact with godwyn, it kills him…. But Ranni, who has no corporeal flesh, doesn’t suffer the effects of her life’s contact with death root / godwyns curse / whatever…. She’s merely a soul inhabiting a doll after all…. Whereas rogiers soul and corporeal flesh are vulnerable. So when ranni sleeps… it’s actually a death that she has the power to wake from, since she’s just a soul…. But when rogier sleeps, it’s an actual death… due to his contact with godwyns curse.

The Bloodstain shows the exact moment he was infused with deathblight but we didnt think it was necessary to show since we already know he was infused with death. Probably should have included it though.

There is a very interesting parallel between Rogier's death, Godwyn's corpse and many other creatures like the Albinaurics and Rennala's offsprings. Godwyn's corpse lost his legs which have metamorphosized into a mermaid-like fish tail. The Albinaurics slowly lose their legs, and it's unclear whether this happens on its own, or it's due to the torture they get subjected to. Even the maybe-Albinauric-maybe-not Oracle envoys have no legs and roll around like balls. Rennala's offsprings have no legs, in fact, they crawl around with their legs wrapped in a cloth that somehow reminds of a mermaid's tail. Dragonkin soldiers' legs actually are there, but they're paralyzed and likely useless. Rogier's death occurs because of a slow rot of his legs, which we can never see since they're hidden under that heavy blanket. What's up with death, legs, and transformation? All these creatures are linked by a strong death/rebirth motif, but I cannot really identify what's the final element that links them all. Still, this is a detail that probably has a meaning, and it's more than just some strange coincidence.

If you inspect the bloodstain near Godwyn’s face below Stormveil, you’ll see Rogier hanging in air by something. I wonder if there is a similar animation of an incantation or enemy grab attack by which we can go deeper in the lore of how the Prince of Death actually infected him with the thorns. 🤔 Anyways, a good lore video as usual. The animation that Rogier dies in is the animation that plays if you die to the death status effect. So there are a few incantations that can cause that death animation

@@TheNapster153 The creepy part about that is because it's Godwyn's alive-nt body. The black knives killed his immortal soul and shoved his body into the roots of the tree. Instead of being reincarnated normally, he keeps showing up as faces in trees (also seen in FIA's second appearance)

I'd accept if it were puss or white blood like an Albanauric, but red blood implies the Face has a working biology to an extent. Hence, my first thought was to nope out lest I suffer the same fate as Rogier. Speaking of, my hunch suggest that Rogier did something similar and that was how he got inflicted by Deathblight. Assuming he was already in Fia's employ by this point, than it lends more credence as to why he was in Stormveil to begin with. Knowing that Godwyn is Undead is different than actually observing his unalive form. In my opinion, Rogier's Investigation was a major step in Fia forming the death rune

think the line that he said about apologizing ahead of time was because he probably knew he would be serving FIa as we see him guarding her. Not sure if it was fully willing thing in terms of him having full control. Do believe that he would probably have talked with her and wanted to help her as lionheart believe was his name was the same but assume he died similar to rogier.

Since we know death fuels the eedteee and Godwyn was likely fed to it after his soul died. But only his soul died .. his body is likely still very powerful. So is he manifesting this face the same way Rykard forced his will on the great serpent when it devoured him, resulting in the snake manifesting aspects of Rykard and even becoming him in a way. Is Godwyn now part of the erdtree?

I think the implication is that his cancerous body is spreading along the erdtrees roots, likely trying to take it over in the same way Rykard took over the serpent. It definitely hasnt happened yet, but the infection of the Lands between in certain areas shows it may be working, slowly but surely.

Rogier’s slumber may be very much like that of the Prince of Death, the body of whom yet lives despite the soul having been slain. Perhaps the Prince of Death is not just spreading the Deathroot, but spreading it’s own condition. Of course, since Rogier is not in the roots of the Erdtree i doubt he’ll start sprouting eyes & faces around the Lands Between

I don't quite remember that dialogue but I think it's actually the opposite. In Fia's ending it's the age of death so death returns to the Lands Between, but Rogier's intention was to heal them of an affliction. He disagreed with D wanting them dead for good so it's hard to say.

You missed the point that Rogier becomes fia Champion and fights to defend her disgusting Lord. Perhaps D wasn't wrong and Fia is just a thrall to the god of death and she takes Rogier effectively as a slave when he is consumed by the infection spread by the god of death. The fact that Rogier under Fia control has no control over his actions points to the fact that Fia has no qualms to use people if it's for her lord. Also considering Fia's use of Rogier and D's friendship with him it's not so surprising how he hates her.

This is possible due to godwyns body spreading death through the lands between. It does this because he was killed by the black knives infused with destined death.

The Golden Order hates them because in the world described by the Golden Order's teachings, 'true' death or death in general isn't allowed. You're meant to have an Erdtree burial and re-enter the cycle. And remember the Rune of Death specifically was removed from the Elden Ring during the time of the Golden Order, so in general the idea of Those Who Live in Death is seen as heretical. They're separated from the 'natural order of things' (as prescribed by the Golden Order). Living as separate beings in a state of undeath rather than re-entering the Erdtree.

I think that the reason why his face is under storm veil is because that’s where he was assassinated. Godrick and his lineage typically were lording over stormveil so it makes sense that that’s where he died. After he was killed, his body was moved to under the erdtree for a proper burial, which is the other place his face appears, yet obviously it’s much larger.

I know there’s not a lot about the banished knights but could you do a video on them. You find them in some interesting spots in the game, and I wonder why they were banished from their homeland.

From what I've gathered they seem to be banished due to their affinity towards dragons. It seems like they may have served them and perhaps even partook in dragon communion, based on the ones you find near the dragon temple. There are also a bunch in Farum Azula, a nexus of primal dragon-sourced activity (based on the beastmen that have mammalian yet also dragon features, the presence of Placidusax and the other minor dragons). I think this would get them banished because the dragons represent the world before the golden order, and those who worship them are not aligned with the current dominating (Golden) order in the lands between. Partaking in dragon communion seems to be severely frowned upon in the current regime of the Golden Order, and those who do it too much contort into the magma wyrms we fight throughout the game (I believe it is the Magma Wyrm curved greatsword description that says that). I almost wanna say that the dragons were the lords/ heralds/ higher ups of the order of the crucible before the erdtree but that is way more speculation. Edit: this is just my two cents. In no way am I saying this is "how it is"

On the topic of Godwyn’s face appearing in two places - in deep root depths there seems to be lots of scaly snake-like skin around his corpse. I think it might be more likely that his corpse was assimilated by the god-devouring serpent. We know Rykard did play some role in helping Ranni orchestrate the night of black knives, so it would make sense for the serpent to have access to Gydwyn’s body. This could mean that when the serpent shed it’s skin, it also shedded a husk of Godwyn’s face, thus explaining why there are two corpses.

It also makes sense that the face is so big since we see rykard's post-absorbed face in the fight. Another youtube lore duder made a similar comment, thinking that godwyn was eaten by the God-serpent. Certainly an interesting concept, rykard certainly has something to do with ranni's plot

The flaw with this is that I believe there is an item description saying that it is effectively a cancerous growth on the roots and that there are more than the sole body and the face on the roots. We may see more of them in the DLC if we can access more underground areas of the game etc.

I legit didn't find Stormveil Castle until I was level 99 and just burned through it. Later, I found some random dude dying on the balcony at the RTH, eventually got his equipment, and still never knew who 'that Roger guy' was... This is part of what makes the game amazing. The game loads and you go... never know what you may (or may not) find.

In my first playthrough I ran around without a crafting kit for most of the early game because I couldn't initially afford it, and then completely forgot about it by the time it started becoming relevent (crafting furled finger remedies).

If you wonder why he is really cursed if you go to the Godwyn face under stormveil castle their is a bloodstain and if you touch it he is impaled by a scarlet rot weapon that is a spear I say commander o,neil did it

did you know that one of the bloodstains around Godwyn's corpse is one of Rogier's? Its easier to notice if you play offline - it shows him being impaled by thorns

Yup! That is the Deathblight taking hold and due to Rogier no longer being connected to grace, instead of respawning he is made permanently ill until he dies.

When we fight Fia’s champions, Rogier is one of them that fights us the player alongside with Lionel, is there sum connection to this? Or is it just a spirit ash that is a mimic of Rogier?

we find Lionels armour in Leyndell, next to a dress that looks like Fias. Both characters got the deathbed companion treatment from Fia, and she is talking about that Rogier is laying next to her

The face below stormveil is connected to a body though. How could it cwlong to Godwyn when it already has a human torso? If it's a relic the same way the sacred relic sword is just Radagon's body, then that must mean there were victims other than Godwyn from the assassination on the night of the black knives
