There is a suuuuuuuuper dark secret hidden in plain sight here. The player is Hyetta in the sense that we are wandering around eating something we don't understand. Something about the size of a grape. Runes. Ever notice how Marika & Radagon's scar/soreseal talismans look like eyeballs...? Ever notice how Marika & Radagon we meet have no eyeballs? Ever notice how none of the Finger Readers have eyeballs? Ever notice what Placiducax's eye looks like when in stasis? When you consume a rune, do you ever wonder what part of a numen/hero/lord you are consuming exactly?

Fun fact, Hyetta is the replacement of Kale. Since Kale qas originally the one to leas you to the Frenzied flame. And much of his diakogue was recovered by modders. It is uncertain if Hyetta is indeed a replacement, or if both quests would have led you at the same time. But Kale's is much more touching and much more dark and tragic. His voice acting "MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WOOOOORLD"... chilling.

I think Hyetta fits more with the themes of the flame of frenzy than Kales did. Kale basically justifies the flame of frenzy ending, which turns it into a revenge story. Hyetta luls you into Nihilism with a familiar face, and given how it’s implied that she is possessing a corpse like Shabriri, ultimately it creates a faustian theme. You can’t trust Shabriri, but Hyetta is easy to trust. Then again, she could very well be a collaborator of Shabriri who is trying to groom you into nihilistic despair whereas Shabriri convinced you to destroy the Erdtree and made some insane ramblings about chaos.

I think one quest doesn't cancel out the other. But as others have said here, Kalé's quest line makes you long for the revenge-fueled frenzy ending. In other words, Kalé was deceived by the flame of frenzy, just as the player would be deceived. The true meaning of the flame of frenzy that Hyetta and Shabriri bring is that the yellow flame represents pure chaos. As life is not worth living, as births are a great error of the Greater Will, everything must be melted by the yellow flame of chaos. It's not about revenge, it's about giving up the concept of life.

Well, if Edgar was being influenced by the Frenzy flame, as was Irena, couldn't it be that Edgar is simply easily manipulated into thinking Irena died? The dead body doesn't have to be Irenas, but a planted fake to mess with Edgar. It's odd too, that the dead bodys face can't be seen, and it doesn't say Irena is dead. It just says, she's dead. It could be one massive pawn play from the Flame of Frenzy, and Shabari could have easily done this himself while we were gone.

The Frenzy Flame quest chain is the greatest act of storytelling in my opinion. Elden Ring in general has some of the best lore From Software has ever conceived, but the Frenzy Flame path just invokes something special that I just can't put words to. Maybe it's my own deep love of eldritch chaos and that deep horror madness, but this is some of the best I've ever experienced. An eye for an eye lead the world to be melted back into one. May chaos take the world.

For those in the know the god of The Frenzied Flame (FoF) is Elden Ring's version of Hastur The King in Yellow (KiY) since it's magick revolves around yellow flames that induce madness, not to mention the fact that the Three Fingers themselves kinda look like the most well known version of The Yellow Sign when they open to grab the Tarnished. There's also the possibility that each character involved in the FoF storyline are representations of characters found throughout the KiY mythos. The Frenzied Flame represents Hastur Himself. The Lord Of Chaos: The King in Yellow who is either Hastur himself or one of his avatars that he uses as vessels to manifest himself on the earth. It's never actually clear but that's cosmic horror for you. Vyke: The Tattered King who may be another incarnation of Hastur Himself. This is fitting since Vyke was close to becoming the Lord of Chaos and is wearing a tattered cape after coming in contact with the three fingers. Shabriri: May represent the Palid Mask since he always covers his face with "his" hands as if they were a mask and in the KiY mythos the Pallid Mask is sometimes the harbinger and messenger of Hastur just like Shabriri is to the FoF. Hyetta: she may represent Camilla who just like Hyetta went mad when facing a crucial truth concerning the KiY/FoF. In the case of Hyetta it was either her learning the nature of the "grapes" or when you as the lord of FoF burned her eyes. Camilla went mad when coming face to face with the Pallid Mask and learning a horrifying truth about the entity ("No mask?, No mask!!?). And then there's Vyke maiden who may represent Cassilda.

Not all madness in the lands between is FF madness. All of the Lordsworn weapons and shields describe their former owners as 'long mad.' If you look closely at these pieces of equipment, you'll notice they appeared to at one point be golden but have tarnished almost to the point of being unrecognizable. There is a metal irl that has these properties. It's called pyrite, aka 'fools gold.' At room temperature, it oxidizes & releases a brain damaging gas associated with madness. Not surprisingly, looking at the Lordsworn troll sword compared to the Carian troll sword & from what we know about the Golden Order generally being jerks to trolls, we can guess that the Lordsworn weapons were distributed to folks considered expendable. We can also likely find the location of the mine that sourced the pyrite. The one with all the madness enemies outside it in the consecrated snowfields. Also fun, that's the location of the NOT "natural born" astel. The opposite of "natural born" is made. That astel on top of the fake gold was made by somebody.

Honestly, I never would have thought to connect those two. I was always so disappointed when the questline of Castle Morne came so abruptly to an end. It left me wanting more, and when it was announced that they were adding some content in an earlier update, I was so eagerly anticipating some additional story to this questline. It took me a 2nd playthough to even realize irina and hyetta are the same person, or the same body or whatever. I did a ton of exploring and by the time i met hyetta, and i forgot all about poor irina. It definitely hit different on the 2nd playthrough.

my theory was that Irina was overcome with grief and feelings of betrayal in her last moments in the same way that the merchants summoned the Frenzied Flame under Leyndell after being buried alive, I think Irina became so distraught in those final moments that she summoned the Frenzied Flame herself. I think the three fingers can take form of those afflicted with madness who have died. Yura succumbed to madness which is why he is acting weird at Raya Lucaria saying "get out of my heads worm" Irina must have been incredibly distraught in her final moments which I'd imagine led to her succumbing to madness as well. both become inhabited by a spiritual entity inhabiting their former bodies and both entities are servants of the Frenzied Flame.

I got the sense Yura made a deal with Shabriri to give him the strength to fight bloody fingers in exchange for his body upon death. But it’s possible having to track and fight his love, Eleanora sent him over the edge with no input from Shabriri.

It was such a joy helping Hyetta to become a finger maiden. Watching her burn knowing full well that I would be betraying her and quelling the frenzied flame. As for the connection to them what I find weird is her talking about those who attended her early on. Those she claimed were howling. As if they were the ones who raised and groomed her for this life but when was the time between Irinas death and Hyettas creation?

Right! Irina as well says she heard "frightful howling from all over". And the frenzied village so near castle Mourne is no coincidence. And we know from D, that in the lands between, 2 people can share 1 soul. Maybe Irina and Hyetta share 1 soul as well?

I like to think the connection to Irina and Hyetta is more simple; I think that because Irina has had “poor eye sight since birth” she cursed the idea that she was ever born into this world, as many adolescents with disabilities do. Irina likely found the Frenzied Village to the north of the castle and learned of the Three Finger and the Yellow Flame of Chaos. She then could have started the Misbegotten uprising at Castle Morne as a way to escape, and faked her death so Edgar would not follow her (as we learn from Haight, the Misbegotten can be reasoned with). Taking the name Hyetta to disguise herself, she sought the journey to become a maiden of the Three Fingers so nobody would be born into this accursed world ever again.

The more grapes she eats, the more a faint light rises in the depths of her eyes, bringing her knowledge. That's why she knows where she should go next, even though she's blind. Each time we meet her and give her grapes, Hyetta evolves along with us. The difference is that in Hyetta's case, she gradually goes crazy too. When she reaches the point where ordinary Shabriri grapes are no longer enough to bring her revelations, she craves Vike's eyes, as if she is addicted. At the end of her quest, when we touch her eyes with the flame of frenzy, she tells us that she touched the words of the Three Fingers. So, that's basically how it works. Visions transmitted by an Outer God.

Twin sister separated at birth maybe his wife was on a quest to become a finger made in for the three fingers took one of the daughters and fled with her. It would make more sense than them trying to spirit puppet Twins, are very common in the Elden ring lore.

Just as an aside: I'm fairly certain Hyetta's quest line is a reference to drug addiction. Oh and also perhaps to parasocial relationships. The grapes are the eyes of Hyetta's blind followers, and Hyetta gets addicted to their love and attention. But they never truly get to see each other, it's all distant and ultimately empty.

I think FromSoft forgot to remove Irina's Body. And or its a graphical glitch. If you have the quest from Varre to get the maidens blood you can get it from Irina's body BUT only before you meet Hyetta. If you've met Hyetta then you can no longer get the blood from Irina's body because its no longer there. Its just a glitch.

The only other character there are two of in a normal save file is maliketh, no matter if you kill him in faram azula or not, he will always be still at the bestial sanctum. Idk how Irina could be connected to faram azula, but that's one of the only ways we know there could be two instances of a person. Anoth is shades, like mohg and morgott, except they disappear when they die. We do know however our finger maiden can only exist as a spirit til we get to leyndell, so I presume maybe that finger maidens have to die before becoming a maiden. Melina also already has burn marks all over her, so maybe dying and living as a finger maiden is a more common thing.

Can't mimics copy everything about someone, like an exact copy down to a fragile eyesight. Could it have been a mimic or silver tear controlled by the flame of frenzy dunno what you can do about that. There is a mimic who left Nokron to the surface you could meet in the game files. The mimic you meet is fully sentient and has her own questline. So maybe the frenzy flame found a runaway tear and prodded at it's mind to help the flame get a tranished

The concept is really cool but the 2 fingers and 3 fingers are like 2 sides of the same coin, so I'm not sure they'd be able to influence a mimic tear which draws it's arcane nature from the stars.

It's been proven that they can be found on the surface so, it makes me think. And the fact that the tear was a sentient thing according to the files is even more facinating.

I have a theory and here it is: There are some misbegotten near the ailing village, I feel it is possible that they may have been convinced by Shabriri somehow (cause we know that the misbegotten are intelligent they are just filled with hatred for most in the land between), persuaded to revolt by Shabriri or where consumed though their rage by it for the purpose of creating a finger maiden for the three fingers, this could also explain why Edgar has gone mad himself as he may have seen someone identical to his daughter in every way and knowing she is dead, he may have fallen or given himself to the flame of frenzy though sheer despair. this again would mean that it has all possibly been manipulated by Shabriri in an attempt to make a true lord of frenzy and bring chaos to the world. it is also possible that the reason Vyke failed to become the lord of frenzy is because there was no finger maiden to inform him to remove his armour before entering and thus the three fingers where ultimately repelled leaving Vyke scared and mad

Since her father lost his mind, could it be that he begged that she was returned in some way? He became frenzied, thus there could be a connection, specially with all the death he inflicted, and since the summoning of the Three Fingers required sacrifice, maybe he could connect in some way.

1) Hyetta spawns after our first conversation with Yura. I accidentally figured this out when I noticed Hyetta wasn't spawning. I'll have to test if Hyetta can instead be forced to spawn by progressing Irina's quest without speaking to Yura. 2) If Irina's death comes at our own hands, Hyetta cannot spawn. However, I haven't tested this claim myself, but I've read it from others. I'll test it for myself soon.

It would be cool if some how the Frenzy Flame was tied to the crucible as if Greater Will's mere presence and appearance was a grand invitation towards all the Outer Gods out there, hence the Crucible could potentially be the source/origin of where the Three Fingers comes from, as the two Fingers for each of the demigods as well as the one in roundtable. But that's just a random theory that came to mind, it would be interesting to see the crucible somehow retaliated towards the Elden Beast and the Elden Tree with the Elden Ring

Would there be any tie to Mohg? There are two Mohgs as well and the other one kind of ‘guards’ the way to the three fingers. And I killed real Mohg first before finding out about the second one so the ‘copy’ can exist without the original. It could be that the lands between is a literally a bridge between two of the same worlds so a copy of original self can cross within the lands between. Like spirit of Godfrey just walking around, Margit morgott, D and the other guy. Godwyn in stormveil and the other near fia etc. seems like copy and the original cross in the land between.

I think something we are overlooking here is Shabriris power. The guy proved that he is untrustable and that he can leave and enter dead bodies as he wants. What if Hyetta is Shabriri?

Only unlikely because at the time you meet Hyetta he is also controlling Yura. We don't know if it's possible for Shabriri to inhabit 2 bodies at once; if he can then this theory could work!

I've honestly played and restarted this game 6 times. Done irinas quest 4 of those times. And every time she dies and i see hyetta, irina's body is gone, along with the Weapon used to fell her. I don't know if it's because I started playing it later or what, but for me, hyetta and Irina have never been in the same world at the same time. Irina disappeared every time that Hyetta showed up.

Here is my theory. I make the assumptions before so everything is as clear as possibile. Assumptions: almost every other NPCs' death is depicted with just the corpse and the lethal injury part without any murder weapon at all and Shabriri can travel through bodies with his consciousness. What if: After you met her and while delivering the letter, Shabriri actually kills Irina and decoy the body, leaving on the scene the sword of the misbegotten. Then actually takes control of her body and tells you she want to become a maiden just to fulffill the urge of the Frenzy Flame to burn everything down and let chaos spread. As Yura, a companion, you discovered him until he tells you he is Shabriri, so that you think he is just there. But you never meet Yura and Hyetta toghether, so is possible that he is manipulating you in more than one way to ensure Chaos will spread. The dead body so is a decoy, put there to ensure Edgar become mad and filled with rage and revenge. There is no cutscene of him hugging her, or touching her at all. He is just devasted seeing her daughter dead, with a beast sword perfectly placed near her body. Why would someone kill a person and leave the weapon there? A weapon that you wield because the Land Betweens are dangerous and fights happens often and for anyone. It's the perfect scenario for a traumatized man with a very fragile mind. How can he think properly with the view of her beloved daughter dead and the guilt he is feeling for leaving her alone, next to a weapon he fought so many times and recognize properly? Shabriri then, fed with all the grapes, tells you once again what it need to be done after you accept the three fingers and you became the flame indeed, burning everything. Even the fact Hyetta's body take flames means nothing to Shabriri, considering he can just switch into another corpse and try to manipulate other Tarnished too

There's another lore video with the theory that the Lands Between is a place where time and space are fractured, with evidence of time travel being from Farum Azula. Hyetta is also the name of a butterfly. I'm thinking this is perhaps a vague hint at the butterfly effect. . Hyetta is not Irena, but also is her, from a different timeline that has collapsed into the Lands Between, and for whatever reason, Irenas own death triggers the other version of her to appear in this version of the world. We do know that death is a vague thing in the Lands Between. With seemingly contradictory yet complimentary ideas, as with the Elden Ring being what governs existence, perhaps when it shattered, so did existence in every way, including time itself. However, that and this is all based purely on speculation.

I thought they were twins with their vision split between them. Only by one dying, could the other follow through with unleashing the frenzied flame. Hyetta ran away and was off in the world somewhere. So Edgar decided that keeping Irina locked away was his only option - if Irina was safe and sound, Hyetta would never get the vision she needed; if Hyetta was killed out there somewhere, he'd have Irina secured. My theory is that Hyetta started the misbegotten uprising to get Irina out of the castle, then killed her herself. Edgar had to take the risk because if the misbegotten killed Irina, Hyetta would be empowered somewhere out there guaranteed.

Her surprise and disgust at being told she ate eyes doesn't come off as àn insincere display. Can you see A chaos demon managing to freak out and sheepishly vomit as soon as she's alone, as part of a cover act? And a spirit dispatched by t3F to nudge our PC toward frenzy, like Shabriri was, is a creature I expect to know the deal with the grapes. Plus, even if such a demon we're surprised at what she's eaten, would she throw up? Or something more like just shrug, or even laugh? I think first of those three is least likely.for a demon.

I don't think the flow of time works quite right in the lands between. Vyke is a good example of this, he is known to have been the tarnished who got closest to being Elden Lord, yet his pre-frenzied body is trapped in an evergoal and he also was grasped by the three fingers despite it being sealed by Morgott when we find it. Considering Morgott is the most likely party to have imprisoned Vyke, it implies Vyke both did and did not awake the frenzied flame. Another example is the roundtable hold itself - somehow being another version of the Leyndell manor. I think this is reinforced by the in game mechanics of white spirits and summoning signs for bosses - other tarnished in different versions of the world where events have unfolded differently. I think Hyetta was a possible version of Irina in a different world, brought to our world by the FF.

We actually have a theory on the imprisoned Vyke. He can't be pre-flame because his armor is singed with the fingers prints, so we think the Evergaol actually cuts him off from the 3 fingers since it exists in its own dimensional space. That said, if the 3 fingers have the ability to move people between dimensions this makes sense!

Here is my basic take, which I'm calling: "The Lands Machine" The Lands Between are bound by Cosmic rules, or only function if those rules are followed. Much like any mechanism, there are requirements for functioning. A horse cart,(there are better machines to use, but I'm pressed for time) at the most basic level, is based on providing force and reducing friction. You can use sled skis if there is snow, or an axle and a wheel to reduce friction, but you still need the power to push or pull it. Those two things are inescapable. The Lands Between have certain requirements for operation. There must always be an energy cycle, including creating new things and breaking down old ones. There must always be a vehicle in control, and that vehicle needs a driver(Empyrean), an engine(lord/consort), and a chassis/windshield(shadow). Ranni HAD to split herself up and completely discard the physical, because she didn't have the juice to do what Marika did. It would have been like trying to power a car with a 9 volt battery. Marika was smart and tricksy enough to realize she could become her own lord with enough autonomy passed to the part she split off. Radagon was born a unique being because he had to amass enough power from alternate sources to qualify as a second being. Marika took everything she was not and folded it around the bit of her she cut off. As soon as Radagon went his own way enough to qualify him as a consort to the Mechanism, she yanked him back in. She was already the driver, so she sent Radagon out as the engine to get bulked up, then stepped down from the wagon seat and put the harness around her own neck by absorbing the engine. Now she pulls the wagon in the direction she chooses. Do you wonder why she is all broken looking with chunks of herself missing and cracked? The missing pieces were the parts of Radagon that he gained while he was acting as his own person. Marika sent Radagon out to define himself so he could take the role of lord/consort, which actually worked... up until she tried to absorb him back into herself. She was left with his personality and experiences, but not the power he brought with him. The greater will would fix this directly, but she locked the Lands Between down when she ended the cycle of death and renewal. The law enforcement agencies (outer gods) can't pull her over and yank her out of the harness now. The shadow would normally start to create friction with Marika dragging it behind her, heating up with madness and exploding in her face as a failsafe in that regard, but Marika planned ahead by burning the chassis before it could drag, go mad and kill her. Marika drove Malekith mad herself, fucking him up so badly that the madness from going against the Order would have competition. Malekith's name is Malé(accent added so ot doesnt look like the word for man)and Kith. Malé, comes from Mal, meaning "bad" and Kith means "known"(like people you known, are known to you, or friends) Malekith can mean "Bad Friend" or "Bad Knowledge." Bad Knowledge, in Cosmic horror, is what we call madness. Knowledge that hurts you. [Insert Ace Ventura deep breath] Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh That's why she split herself into Radagon and sent him away, that's why she ended death and drove Malekith mad, that's why she locked the world, and that's why she was punished for doing it! (I was pressed for time to get through all that, not like I only had a second)

As for why the volcano manor, Honored Madman assumes it has to do with not just his distaste for the religious aspect of the golden order but also his interest in Tanith. He sees a fellow soul in the distaste in the current order.
