Ok, that Big Rune menu is really interesting and kind of confirms a theory that I thought about some time ago, which is quite HYPE. So, there's the big slot to indicate which one you have equipped, and the smaller ones, on the bottom half of the menu, to show all the runes you have acquired. I think this is a given. But now, if you pay attention you'll notice that the 6 upper slots have a golden shade, while the lower 6 have a darker, more blue-ish one. But wait, weren't there supposed to be only 6 runes, corresponding to the 6 demigods? Where do the other 6 come from? Here comes my theory: I believe that what we now so far as the lands between, with it's 6 main areas, what we think to know about the lore, in general, what we have been told about the game, is only half of it. Before the CNT, when the 20 minute gameplay was shown to the journalists and streamers, some of them claimed that, when the map menu was shown, there was a prompt with the controls for showing the map of the "lower labyrinth"; and even further in time, back in march of 2021, in some footage that was leaked, we saw the player character walking into a ENORMOUS cave. And now, by the item descriptions from the CNT we know that there are, at least, 2 more levels besides the 6 main ones: a lost city underground and a temple on the sky. More than that, we know that there's ANOTHER FUCKING TREE called the Great Tree. Now, how does this link with the golden and blue colours? Well, for those who played the CNT, you will remember those little statues that said "for those in search of the Tree" or some shit like that and pointed to some mini dungeons with a BLUE LIGHT. Another instance in which we have seen the blue light is on those fogwalls that block the access in FringeFolk's cave and some parts of StormVeil castle. And now, think about it: we have a golden Tree, golden fog-walls, the golden grace that guides us through our journey, 6 demigods linked to that grace and now 6 golden rune-slots; and on the other hand, we have blue fog-walls, blue beams of lights that guides us to some other goal, mentions to a second Tree and 6 blue slots for another 6 runes that we didn't even knew about. At first I was somewhat skeptical towards the notion that there was going to be a whole second half of the game, seeing that the Lands Between were big enough. My idea was that yes, there was going to be underground levels, with huge importance for the story, but that it was not going to be this giant and sprawling system of caves and dungeons the size of the whole Lands Between. Now seeing that those rune-slots seem to point that there might be 6 more main bosses besides the 6 demigods, my hopes are up again.

The "BigRune" is quite interesting, either it's for the great runes we get from the bosses or we have some other powerful thing we can equip.

Weren't the rumors saying that the game's title would be "Great Rune"? Instead of "Elden Ring"? "Great Rune" was the working title, like "Project: Dark" and "Project: Beast". "Big" is a synonym for "Great" in English.

Souls are just renamed to runes in elden ring. Then there's the typical soul item you can pop for more souls or in this case runes.

It's not. No other map fragments exist except for a very old alternate version of the NT area.
