I thought overlevelling was a core fondation of every rpg. If your struggle, you level up and go back. And I always loved that in a RPG because you basically lower the difficulty if you work harder before and that's fair.

It just means that you won't be able to overlevel the DLC before you get into the dlc, not that you won't be able to grow in power there. It's basically a way to avoid NG10+ characters to just destroy everything on day 1.

There is no new leveling system. You can find some items in the dlc that permanently increase your attack while in the dlc area, but your level still matters and you can 100% overlevel before attempting the dlc.

sure, but lets be real, if you are level 150, you already have softcapped attack stat, enough endurance for your armors and softcapped health. So leveling more gives very slight benefits (with exception of stat hungry mage builds). While new system gives you flat percentage boosts for dlc area, and from what I heard, its gonna be pretty necessary for some bosses.

Your level past 150 wont matter because the Shadow Realm has its own damage and damage negation scaling measured by the items you use to level in the DLC. So if you go in it max level you're still gonna get hit like a truck and not do enough damage if you don't have any of the item upgrades

You don't need to over level in this game at all, because above level 30 you have all the tools you need to trivialize mobs and bosses. For example, you can jump attack with a heavy class weapon like the Greatsword. It literally does not matter if you don't deal high damage or don't have a lot of health, because your enemy will be stun locked forever.

I see far too many zoomers in the comments section calling this DLC a "whole new game". Poor souls have gotten so used to getting railed from behind their entire lives that they can't even comprehend the concept of an Expansion anymore. This used to be the standard before the 2010s. Game comes out, it sells well, devs make an expansion for it that costs 1/3th of the base game and offers dozens of hours of gameplay.

I'm a huge fan of the loyce GS from DS2, which was basically a light greatsword. When I saw that one of the new weapon classes for ER was light great swords, it made me all the more excited for this expansion

You know what this is what dlc used to be like before it became monetized. We only have ourselves to blame for the current dlc monetization. Especially since games like persona sell what they call base game then resell the game again after a year and add on a royal or deluxe version and call it dlc

Friendly reminder that Miyazaki said the base game was going to be about 30 hours as well. He's also stated the DLC map was about the size of Limgrave, but everyone who got to play it for 3 hours has come out and said it's more like 50% of the base game map. Dude is hardcore underselling this masterpiece, which I completely understand and respect. It's way better than overhyping it like every other company does.

I bought Lies of P just to scratch my soulslike itch while waiting for the DLC. Unfortunately, I managed to platinum it in a week so I'm now going back and forth playing Elden Ring and DS3.

If youre really craving a soulslike you could maybe try hellpoint. Its a bit of a harder sell as its a little janky/unpolished but it has pretty intricate level design for a non-fromsoft soulslike and personally I am very into the lovecraftian theming of the game. Also, your character controls pretty smoothly and due to how mp work hybrid melee/magic playstyles feel more functional than they do in souls. I would just try and get it for cheap via a g2a key or something. If you dont mind some jank and you're like me that prefers the emphasis on levels over bosses that was more prevalent in demon souls/dark souls 1 it could be a solid 30 hour experience.

I don't see how "enemies are faster" is a good thing, though. It's already a pattern memorization game with extremely short reaction times. Not quite as bad as Bloodborne but still. They do make extensive DLCs, I'll give them that.
