Messmer the Impaler is new. He has red hair so he's definitely related to Radagon. He might be the sibling of Melania and Miquella represented by the smoldering butterfly. The other two being represented by the nascent butterfly and the aeonian butterfly.

The only way I think that he could be Miquella is if the whole Mohg/Formless Mother thing caused a complete transformation. It's been confirmed in an interview: this will take place at the same time the game does, it isn't set in the past or the future. And, the blond person we see at the very end, also confirmed, it's Miquella.

The one in the cocoon at the start was Miquela. He abandons his flesh to go to the "realm of shadow" which is where the DLC takes place. He is also the one who lures the tarnished( the player) to that realm. Also, at the end of the trailer, the golden haired person is Miquela.

That creature with the Lion-head is a costume that is controlled by 2-3 Omen, it's supposed to be inspired by dancers in those large costumes during the Chinese new year's parades, the creature is called a Lion-Dragon or Pixiu btw, a very important creature in Chinese mythology as it ward's off evil spirits and protects mortals from them

The DLC is actually concurrent with the events of the game when the tarnished arrives in the lands between. The land of shadow was actually once apart of the land mass but because of something that occurred in the game (which we’ll learn in the DLC) it is now separated and hidden

Vaati has a video breakdown of the new Elden Ring DLC trailer. As far as timeline, you enter the DLC after defeating Radahn and Mohg. The first few scenes dialog are in reference to Miquella the Unalloyed which is a demigod we don’t really interact with but we know him as Malenia’s twin brother.

The figure at the end of the video is Miquella, brother to Malenia and son of Radagon and Marika who is stuck in an eternal state of childhood. Vaatividya has a LONG video about Miquella's lore that I highly recommend, and I'd also recommend "Prepare to Cry: Age of Stars" while you're at it. They're some of his best work.

I adore the new background!!! BTW, the blond person near the end of the trailer is Miquella, he's also the boy you heard saying "Come, now. Touch the withered arm, and travel to the realm of shadow. I will not be far behind. May we meet again." We do not yet know when the DLC takes place, but we speculate that it will take place after players defeat Radahn and Mohg, but before players defeat Radagon. Because that's when you access DLC... That will also mean that this is the first DLC in FromSoftware history that a DLC takes place in the present... Before this, we only had DLCs placed in the Past (Dark Souls 1 for example) or Future (Dark Souls 3 for example)

another fun theory about messmer is he seems to have dragon eyes and wear armor themed around dragon communion. many things about him are rebellious to the golden order. there's even speculation around him being the 1st to burn the erdtree which caused that to be considered a cardinal sin

You did actually get it right his name is Messmer The Impaler, the person at the very end is very likely Miquella (The centerpoint of the dlc from most of what we have seen). From what information we have the setting seems to be in a forgotten war ravaged land that I theorize Marika wants to keep hidden and Messmer could be a sibling to Malenia and Miquella which serves as Marikas gatekeeper of sorts to prevent people from discovering the land or its secrets or whatever it may hold. As for the time it takes place its probably in the current time when you play the game just at a very late point into the game and finishing the dlc before beating the final boss of the main game might unlock a different ending. Anyways, Vaati actually did just release a 40 minute video going into detail for this trailer if you really want to know about it, he can explain this stuff way better than a youtube comment.

Yeah, I think the dlc takes place from before the erdtree. Cause there used to be a different tree that can be found where you fight Godwyn. I like your idea of Marika trying to keep this all a secret. That sounds like a really cool concept

That lion dancer has about 2-3 little guys (probably Omen like Morgott or Mogh, see the horns adorned all over it) underneath it controlling it. Its directly inspired by the Chinese festival/parade costumes and it is such a unique design choice to pull from.

The dlc will revolve heavily around Miquella, so one video I would suggest watching is Vaatividya's Miquella lore video. It is 45 min long, but it's so worth it.

Seems to take place at the same time as the game and is being added in there. Mesmer is looking to be malenia’s and miquella’s sibling, given the hair and there being three butterfly materials. Two of them being the nascent and aeonian butterfly, which do represent miquella and malenia. The third butterfly is the smoldering butterfly which might be representing Mesmer. Also Fromsoft has a strong tendency to have families have similar sounding names, in this case we have Marika, Miquella, Malenia, and Mesmer. The golden figure at the end has people thinking it’s some kind of spiritual form of Miquella given that Miquella originally had the body of a child but was put in that egg right at the beginning by Mohg to try and force grow him in his own image and attempt to create a new dynasty. That’s Miquella’s arm that’s hanging out of it.

Messmer the Impaler has not been mentioned in the main game to what I am aware. It's possible that Messmer is either a sibling to Melania and Miquella or perhaps a child of one of the two. Or what I think he might be is a child, or reincarnation, of Praetor Rykard, the demi-god who fed himself to the Great Serpent, the Devourer of Worlds, as Messmer appears to have fire and volcanic magic along with a serpent coiled around him. If Messmer is the offspring of Rykard, then him mentioning "mother" could be referencing Tanith Lady of Blasphemy; Rykard's consort. Also the blonde character at the end of the trailer is likely either Miquella or St Trina. St Trina is theorized to be Miquella's other half, similar to how Marika and Radagon are two halves. On a side note I look forward to seeing your reaction to Vaati's video on the Age of Duskborn ending to Elden Ring.

It looks really impressive. The aesthetics in this game are phenomenal anyway. The people at FromSoftware simply know how to design levels/worlds. I had a lot of problems at the beginning, but now it's a lot of fun, even if the story and lore are very cerebral and cryptic. I think it takes place many years in the past, before the golden earth tree from the main game...and tells the story of the members of the Roundtable...until we meet the son/unmarried child etc. of Radagon at the end...would be my guess.

The game is incredibly interesting, beautiful and creepy! I especially like how the creators make allusions to some real moments or problems of humanity. My opinion: The moment at 1:15 is a pure allusion to abortion. The lower part of this figure resembles the pelvic bones and uterus from where the arm of an already dead person sticks out. It's both creepy and interesting. And there is an incredible amount of this in the game. There are people who analyze all these details and this is an incredible excursion into history and mythology. Shadow takes place at the same time as the vents of main game, Messmer is an Empyrean, like Ranni and Melania. Messmer clearly has an issue with the Erdtree and with the Tarnished as well, and his avatar is the Snake (the "traitor") so it's very likely he against the Golden and Carrian Orders alike, and Shadow and Flame are his elements.

Miquella is considered the most benevolent empyrean but also the most fearsome because he wields kindness to win the hearts of men. His goal with the Haligtree was to make his own order that would accept even the rejects of the Golden Order, Id imagine hes trying to do something similar here in the Land of Shadow. That blonde at the end was definitely him. Messmer is likely a rejected child of Marika/Radagon that she still found a use for though the snakes make me wonder if theres any relation to Rykard This DLC is meant to be entered after beating Radahn and Mohg so its taking place mid to late game as theres no time travel involved unlike previous souls titles.
