All of the NPCs are gone with the exception of Hornset Gandam, and her ass is sleep...I thought there would be a secret boss at Shaman Village. I don't feel that sense of completion

Great in depth review, do you know if the performance issues will be there for xbox series x, because for the base game it already runs better than ps5 though less than high end PC's. Was there any changes to movesets, like double spears and double great spears for example? Any balance changes to existing items?

This is a very similar feeling I had before Skyrim got launched many years ago, but to be honest I’m completely more excited for this than any game ever in my life. The manga original ending theory. The Elden ring dlc ending sucks and is underwhelming according to leaks and reviews. Adult Miquella the hyped up character simply sits on radahn during the final duo boss battle. Also the final boss battle is reskinned radahn. However there is hope. Elden ring has an ongoing manga called road to erdtree . The manga could give us an original ending to the dlc which is better than the original dlc trash ending. Me when I heard the leaks: No I don’t want that radahn being the final boss, I want fromsoftware to make good games all their existence for 10 years at least.

I genuinely think this DLC is not good, and in no way can someone be genuinely critical of their favorite IPs and see this as good. It’s okay but it leaves a lot to be desired in every respect, it feels so disjointed and seperate from both its own story and the broader story of Elden Ring. The fact there is obviously so much content that was cut out is really unfortunate, it feels like a rushed product and it feels difficult just to be difficult. So many bosses lack the back and forth we’ve come to expect as souls fans and it’s honestly disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it for 40 bucks in the context of what we’ve seen From produce for 15. The Ringed City DLC, while being smaller, offered a far more interesting, cohesive, and fulfilling experience than Shadow of the Erdtree does.

@@Odiseusthelegend I think the exploration is worse than the base game, so many areas are genuinely like completely empty and devoid of anything rewarding or special but you’re forced to explore because maybe there will be a scadutree fragment around the next corner. So many areas feel just there for the sake of being pretty rather than having an actual purpose, and it really creates this huge divide between those areas and the areas that are full of so many cool things. The bosses and enemies are a tad overtuned, and I feel like some of the bosses are just hard to be hard. Messmer is the goat tho.

It does help that From Soft releases same type of game every time (with Sekiro being the only outlier), if they never changed UI and game's title you would be able to tell difference between DS/DS2/DS3/BB/DeS/ER. Hell they never changed the story either, from DS until ER story was always "Main boss did something bad, collect key souls from few important bosses to unlock the last bossfight".

Elden Ring always felt me like playing Dark Souls 2 but open world. I had high hopes for the whole game, they offered mostly a Dark Souls experience nothing technically new. Even the hitting animations are the same... Besides, me and my friend mostly play these games online coop since demon's souls PS3. The absence of seamless coop is huge L for us. They completely designed this game as an open world but at the same time, they prohibited mounting the horses while playing coop, how am i supposed to explore the world by walking with my friends like this and there is not cross progression for each players either. ( Which is called "seamless experience" The modders think and do better. You have to do the same things for your friends all over again. This is so stupid. They never learn these from Team Ninja games. That's why i decided to pass this dlc. Not a big change for me.

Hearing about some co-op additions is nice. If it makes co-op better that will convince my dad to play elden ring. He's on the fence because he wants to play it with me but the co-op is awful so that deterred him. But if the co-op is upgraded I'm gonna surprise him with his own copy of elden ring. And I'll get to show him the wonderful world of souls like games. (Elden ring is not a souls game).

agree with the empty spaces it reminded me of Dark Souls, the first part is very carefully crafted but not so much the second half. One of those examples are the Abyssal woods not much going on there and not having torrent made it a bit boring.

i think the negatives, while minor, they are slowly coming to light regarding fromsoftware. im dreading if this is the beginning of a slow creep towards becoming "mainstream and mediocre". i say this as a die hard fan of soulsborne games.

The problem FromSoftware faces is that the fanbase can be rabid and relentlessly attack anyone that says anything remotely negative, giving the impression that everything is fine. Meanwhile, they get bombarded with "make this easier", "streamline" feedback from people who complain they "have to use a guide" (IMO a dumb complaint since I use no guides and can figure it all out). The combination of the two above means instead of putting effort into improving technical they are messing with the secret sauce. So far, it's worked out OK, but I hope they change direction moving forward.

@@Fextralife i agree completely. its a dilemma isnt it? to make it more mainstream (read commercial) or make it "pure/purist". ill even be devil's advocate here, i am aware of costs and stresses the employees and the studio as a whole goes through and issues like wages also factor in (btw wages are criminally low). So im sympathetic to them but i still wonder if they too will fall in line as all other studios have or if they will stand in ungodly defiance like a Maidenless_tarnished-Ashen_one-Outsider(bloodborne). lets see what happens 🤞🏾

Making the "mini sequel" to Elden Ring as a big, and relatively expensive, DLC is a pretty good idea. The devs can reuse the same engine as is, while concentrating on just making new content. Also, who's ready for 18 inches of Messmer?
