Elder Bednar! | Can the Elect Be Deceived?!

Kaitlyn, I’d like to share with you an experience I had when I was a child, about 8 or 9 years old. At that time I had not yet learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My family was very active in the Southern Methodist Church. All my friends attended their churches each Sunday. This was in the 1950’s , and everyone in our town attended church every Sunday. Every business was closed. The two pharmacies in town alternately were closed each Sunday. The Pentecostal church was having its revival for a week. My friend, Barbara, invited me to go with her family. I had gone to church with Barbara many times before and always enjoyed it so my mom said I could go. This lady preacher was the guest speaker for the week. The subject this evening was putting on the whole armor of God. A young man (older teen) came out to the front dressed in armor, like a Roman soldier. The lady went up to him and tried to get him to take off his armor. Of course, he refused. But then she complimented him and said some nice things to him and slowly he began to take off one piece and then another. She was trying to entice him to go to a gambling 🎰 house with her. She kept at it until he had taken off all his armor. Then she changed her appearance somehow (I don’t remember how) and pulled out a sign that had hung on a ribbon (or something like it) from behind her neck. The sign read “I’m Satan and you’re Mine!! Then she grabbed him and dragged him out the side door of the church. I’ll tell you that everyone in that chapel jumped and screamed, including me. The lady preacher came back into the church with the young man. She then told us that this is how Satan works. He persuades us to remove our God’s armor a piece at a time until he has us where he wants us and drags us down to hell. I was just a kid but that moment has stayed with me ever since. Fast forward to October General Conference 2024 and Elder Bednar’s talk, now your podcast. What is the armor of God? Everything we have been counseled to do to keep close to the Holy Ghost. Whenever I find myself struggling with Satan and his dark angels, it takes me a while to realize that I’ve let down part of my armor. This happened recently and I was at a loss for what was wrong. After several days of struggling I finally got my heart broken and my spirit contrite enough to ask the Lord and listen to the still small voice. Of course, it was an important piece of that armor. This time I hadn’t been reading my scriptures. I listened to podcasts about them and hymns inspired by them but I hadn’t read them. Particularly the BoM. So I repented and got back on track and Satan was blocked. He couldn’t get to me anymore. At my age and time of life (I’m 74 years old) I have 24 hours to read the scriptures and other good books 📚. I hope I haven’t overwhelmed you with my story. It just came to my mind as I was listening to your podcast and Elder Bednar’s talk. I read his talk almost every day. I believe that we must stay close to the Lord for we all can be deceived. By the way, I kept mentioning Elder Bednar. Now I realize you’ve been talking about Elder Uchdorf’s talk. Oops.😊

Thanks for sharing your study with us. I agree, every time I read a passage like this, often at the beginning of each epistle, ‘James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ’, it is a reminder that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are separate members of the Godhead. I am truly grateful to understand that.

I kind of take a middle path here. I think The Lord's true elect, those who carry a prayer in their heart always, and who actively seek the spirit everyday, won't be deceived. This definition of elect is roughly given in the guide of the scriptures. The broader definition used today where 'the elect is everyone in this church' will have many who are deceived, as they don't devote themselves to the matters of the Lord, and are thus blown about by the chaos of the world.

Of course it's possible. But people use that as a reason that our entire quorum of 15 men are deceived. And bishops etc. Words are twisted. Regarding the VERY elect... it says "were it possible" so yes. If it's possible, it can happen.

Faith can be the size of a mustard seed. But faith needs to be in the truth, which means you need to acquire knowledge, you can have alot knowledge or little knowledge...sizes don't matter, what matters is if is true or not, matters if is in Jesu about Jesus.. most people think faith is about believing in bible stories...but faith is believing in the living Christ not fables about him ...which is something we are gifted with thanks to prophets.

I think those members who "question" the prophet, his counselors or the apostles, even those members who question the governing of the church or have a negative comment about your videos those are the elect being deceived.

Quote from Joseph Smith: “They (the Nephites) worked in the United Order for 166 years, and the Saints (the LDS) have got to become proficient in the laws of God before they can meet the Lord Jesus Christ, or even the city of Enoch." The law of consecration was not meant to be lived in small ways. It’s a transformative, Terrestrial level law. It isn’t socialism….its using our God given intelligence in obvious ways. It’s a pooling of resources in order to elevate all of society. It’s to build a new city of Enoch to meet with the returning one.

This reminds me of a group of pioneers which included my ancestors that each had one cup of flour daily. They truly shared all they had and thought many died for various reasons, the rest reached their goal, the Salt Lake Valley.

Until we reach that point, we are still too mean and selfish to deserve to receive the Savior, who has said inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these… We are still in the wrong economic system. And Telestial wickedness needs to GO as a group, an entire separation, suddenly.

If you mean socialism, it has been soundly condemned by prophets and apostles before. We can live the Law of Consecration in our own lives, in small ways, most especially through actively prioritizing and keeping our covenants.

We will NEVER deserve to see or earn our way to seeing the Savior. That is what His ATONEMENT is for. His time to come is set, whether we are an ideal Zion or not! 🙏
