I like that he said our temple worship "not an entitlement." Also that "we do not come to the temple to hide from or escape the evils of the world." I definitely viewed it as an escape most of the time, a place to find peace. Yes there is peace, but I like that change in perspective that we do not run from the darkness, but instead empower ourselves with light and strength to go out in the dark world and be a light in it. :)

A couple of months ago I was pondering how I missed being able to go to the temple when this thought came to mind: If it were not for the fact that I am alive in this dispensation of the gospel then I would not be able to attend the temple as much as have. If I were only going to the temple for my own ordinances then my temple attendance would be a nearly 20 year old memory. The fact of the great apostasy gives rise to proxy temple work. It is nearly impossible to disentangle the blessings of this gospel dispensation from its challenges, but it is a hopeful comfort to know that the work of the Lord cannot be stopped.

Hi Wishbone, Jesus Christ never said that temples were done away because he died and rose again the 3rd day for us. He did say that the law of Moses was fulfilled. We learn in the books of Moses, that the temple was used for things other than just mosaic ritual sacrifices. Of course Christ said that the law of Moses was done away, (shedding of blood sacrifices), but he never alluded to the temple being obsolete or useless after he died for us and was risen. Here is scripture that is shows that the Temple isn't useless after Jesus Christ died. "Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. 11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering." -Acts 3 I hope this helps clarify some misunderstanding doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. God bless you! If you want to learn more you should contact the missionaries at churchofjesuschrist.org.

I have been able to attend the temple several times during phase 2 and it's a neat experience to be there with just a small party of friends and family. The temples I went to did temperature checks and required face masks the whole time, but it's a small inconvenience to keep workers and patrons as safe as is feasible. Allowing small groups of people that will normally spend time together anyway is a great idea for minimizing spread of the disease, while still being able to worship the Lord in His house. Will members be required to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in order to attend the temple if they end up mandating them?
@icecreamladydriver16064 жыл бұрын
Better not because I think there is a good chance that that is the mark of the beast or at least a part of the mark. If you don't have it you won't be able to buy, sell, move about freely etc.
@freshofftheboat43054 жыл бұрын
@@icecreamladydriver1606 That is part of my concern as well. Wether it is the mark of the beast or not. One thing is for sure. You will not be allowed to buy, sell, work, or travel without “receiving” the vaccine along with the proper credentials showing that you have “received” the vaccine. Also the fact that the majority of these vaccines are being developed using aborted fetal cells is a huge issue for me as well. I’m not taking this vaccine no matter what.
@joeshawcroft71214 жыл бұрын
Who knows. I'm sure the prophet will give guidance on that. I do not believe something will be the mark of the beast that the prophet would endorse. My testimony of the Book of Mormon, Christ's restored Church, a true and living prophet on the earth, continuing revelation etc. will guide me. If I believe these things then I believe that Christ is at the head of this Church and will NOT allow His prophet to lead its members astray. If the prophet and brethren do not warn us against taking the vaccine, or even ask us to get one to attend the temple then I will fell confident that it is surely not the mark of the beast. Each will have to choose for themselves. God bless.
@freshofftheboat43054 жыл бұрын
@@joeshawcroft7121 And how do you feel about aborted fetal cells being used to develop these vaccines? How could you ever in good conscience be willing to support such a practice? Hi, Temples were extremely important to God in the Bible, which includes the new testament as well. God wouldn't have instructed many people to build temples if they weren't incredibly important for our salvation. Of course Christ taught that the law of Moses was fulfilled, but he never said that because he died the temples are deemed useless. In the books of Moses in fact we can learn that ordinances were performed that had nothing to do with the shedding of blood, inside of the Tabernacle of the congregation, which served as a temple, until the Temple of Solomon could be built. In Acts 3, when the lame man was healed, it is noted that the lame man saw Peter and John about to go into the temple. If the temple was useless, why would Peter and John attempt to go into it, before this lame man talked to them? Also after this man was healed, it said he walked with Peter and John into the temple leaping and praising God. If the temple was useless, why would the lame man go with too authorized ordained apostles into the house of the Lord? I hope this clarifies some misunderstood doctrine about the vital role that both ancient and modern temples play in the lives of saints, in the Bible as well as those in our day in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If you want to learn more about temples, and the wonderful eternal promises, and blessings we can receive by choosing to prepare and go into the temple, you should contact the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (churchofjesuschrist.org) God bless you!

The true temple is not a brick and mortar building. “God dwelleth not in temples built with hands”. I think about that scripture every time a general authority states that god dwells in his temples. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day also didn’t understand that when He spoke of “the temple” he was referring to the body. The body which houses the spirit is the true temple, the point at which the unseen world contacts the physical, not the building you see perched on the hill - that is just a symbol.

Moira from England, hello! I am grateful for my ancestors from your great land. You ask good questions. Perhaps these will be answered by the whisperings of the Spirit. While we all can remember verses 3 and 4 of Moroni 10, verse 5 has a special assurance for me: "And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things. " This promise is reiterated in 2 Nephi 32:3 "Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do. " My testimony is that you can receive answers to these questions for yourself, by feasting on the scriptures and praying with these in mind. You may not receive a knowledge of the specifics, but you can receive a comfort, a witness that what our leaders are asking us is correct. For me there are other questions: How can I increase my faith in our leaders? Am I exercising faith in the Lord's anointed if I do what they ask, especially when I disagree? If I disagree and I choose to follow my own thinking, then am I exercising faith in me? What is the cost to following when I disagree? What is the cost to not following? Will the Lord allow His prophet to lead us astray? My sustaining of our leaders has roots in this: "The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so He will any other man who attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and from their duty." Official Declaration #1, Wilford Woodruff Does the Lord always tell us the reason for His commandments? We know that isn't the case. From Moses 5: "5 And he gave unto them commandments, that they should worship the Lord their God, and should offer the firstlings of their flocks, for an offering unto the Lord. And Adam was obedient unto the commandments of the Lord. 6 And after many days an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why dost thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me. " I strive to be like Adam. So knowing that I will likely not know the answers to your questions, I give you some possible answers. To me it is a reflection of my faith in the leaders of His church that I follow their protection guidelines. It is important to me that I show Him my willingness to humbly follow. It isn't for me to "test the Lord" by asking for His protection without following the words of His servants. Should we only depend on the Lord's protection? Or is there a place for health practices? When my leg was broken, I certainly prayed, and I followed the best medical advice and treatment I could find. Today I walk without a limp, and I see my doctors as having acted as a team with the Lord, who created a body and healing processes. In short, I am showing my faith by following His leaders. Finally, I hope that you see that I am offering you things to think about, not trying to criticize or demean you. In other words, "No offence intended." :) Scott From the USA

Beautiful buildings the temples are! Making a covenant, which is making solem promises before God you associate with Jesus Christ. Washing and anoiting can be reconised as a ordinance similar to babtism Babtising by proxy for deceased ancestors can connect you more spirtually to them and them to Jesus. Endowment is more difficult to comprehend . Why is the endowment focused so much on Adam and Eve and not so focused on Jesus of Nazerth. That was a suprise and a disappointment! Where does Jesus complement this ordinance where is his revelence? Sitting in the celestial room confused and lost! Can this be answered in words that help one to comprehend! But please dont say i was not spritually prepared as an answer.

King Fisher, good question. While Adam and Eve are important to understand our beginning, more time, emphasis could be directed to Him.

The entirety of every ordinance both in and out of the Temple, focuses on Christ's role as Savior and Redeemer. It is by His grace we can be saved. New Testament Acts Chapter 4.

@@wilhelmtell536 thank you for the reply but my experience of the temple first in 1982 later in 2001/2 did not seem so. As i said the focus was more on other things and less towards any teachings that one might expect to learn that is similar to the teachings of Jesus in the bible.

king fisher we have had very different experiences. Which is not bad or wrong. I have attended for many years frequently. I continue to learn, and I love being there. It seems we both are walking paths to the beats of different drums... via la difference. Blessings to you and yours.
