Thank you for this guide. I've seen some growing interest in Daggerfall lately and I love it. DF is one of my fav games of all time since 1996. The atmosphere, music and the mechanics in the game are soothing. I've been watching your DF content since the beginning (original Dosbox version with the lovely sound FX bugs and 12+ hours videos) . Planning to rewatch your Whispers in Shadow, Sas-i runs. Continue whatever you are doing and never change (love the occasional salt mining).

its funny how nowadays we have the abitlity to play games that are near life like in graphics but honestly I couldnt care less. I would rather play daggerfall with Morrowind graphics, hell just how it is vanilla is fine to me. The game just has a lot of content to it. I mean yeah you need to use your imagination quite a bit but thanks to the unity version a lot of variation and graphical enhanced sprites make the game up to modern standards. Top tier game in my book.

I so miss the size of cities, regions, and countries. Love Skyrim, but by god Whiterun should be SO much bigger with hundreds of people, houses, and businesses. Riverwood wouldn’t even be a town in Daggerfall, might qualify as a “house” on the overland map. Lol
@HansWurst15692 ай бұрын
@@dennismokry258 You should have seen my face when I first saw Winterhold in Skyrim. For years the games (more the lore but yeah) hyped up how it was a Nord city of legend. With a magical college, a place of advanced magical learning in SKyrim. And then in the game its sunk into the sea. Not even a ruin to be found. and 4 buildings one of which is an inn... Skyrims cities were pathetic. Hands down the best city in a game ever: Novigrad from the Witcher. I think only Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 will come close or even top it.

Whoever did Daggerfall's character portraits was talented, they look great. Much better than the rough 3D face models in Morrowind (and, Talos preserve us, Oblivion) Although I suspect there was some miscommunication with the artist because Barenziah and Morgiah are drawn as Bretons, not Dark Elves as they should be.

Daggerfall is an old-school, heavily DnD influenced cRPG. They don't really make 'em like this any more. (I guess BG3 is as close as you get?) Check out Amulets and Armor, totally different game but has a similar "Playing DnD at your friend's house with pizza and a few beers" feel. There's a great Let's Play of it made with a ton of love. It was obscure before that LP brought it some attention

I remember thinking what amazingly large games we'd have one day when playing this, with more unique places. Still waiting. D: There are excellent more modest attempts, but for single player rpgs I don't know if anything since made the true attempt of full interconnectivity + size. Also climbing, still so rare and ever since this game I've always wanted it just for rp feels. I never came close to finishing this game - an orc warlord got stuck in a wall, and then my save got corrupted. I should probably give the modern way a go. :)

About a year ago I first tried daggerfall (DOSbox version) and had no idea what I was doing. Predictably my time with the game was equal parts short and frustrating. After an hour I made it out of the first dungeon (losing my first character because I didn't realize you need to make a save, lol) and immediately quit because I was having no fun in the slightest. Using the games manual and this guide as a reference, though, I picked up the game again recently(Unity version) and played a mostly vanilla (with bug fix mods) run. If your goal was to help new players who bounced off the game the first time get enjoyment out of the game you knocked it out of the park! I finished my first playthrough a few days ago and am now starting a second with a smattering of about two dozen mods to expand the gameplay. Without this video I doubt I ever would've found my new obsession in this game like I did.
