Yep, the magic system in Skyrim is TERRIBLE and by far the worst in the entire series. The spells hit like nerf darts even when you max out destruction and take the relevant perks. And yeah, the quests in Oblivion are far superior as well and the game is a lot less serious overall and more lighthearted. The scenery also isn't pretty much just different tones of grey as well and the biome is far more diverse.

Oblivion also has the worst enemy scaling. You have to min max your character to have any enjoyment. The upside is that that is the only problem Oblivion has. It definitely has the best quests and music out of all the Elder Scrolls games. Morrowind has the best rpg elements, world setting and story. Skyrim the best visuals and gameplay.

I do love Oblivion, there's something about Cyrodiil that just makes me happy to be alive. Skyrim is graphically better in every way, but seeing Cyrodiil is just beautiful, it's the kind of place I would want to buy a bottle of wine, sit out in a green field as the wind carried the blades of grass and just enjoy the world.

Morrowind is like hearing the Lord of the Rings narrated by a 3-packs-a-day (good Argonian name) throat cancer patient tell it to you in a trailer park. Oblivion is like having Lord of the Rings narrated by Sean Bean, but he drank a mega pint of Cyrodilic Brandy and illustrates scenes with crayons. Skyrim is like having Lord of the Rings narrated to you by Wim Hof, but it is the only book he owns and each time he tells you the story he asks you for more money even though you're literally his child.

This game was Gold for it's age, it was my first Bethesda Game as well. I remember the freedom I felt while playing it, no other game from the same time period gave me the same sensation. Yeah, got it on PC when it first came out and almost lost my mind after playing it for the first time. I don't think I left my computer for more than 30 minutes that first day and called off work the next day so I could play it some more. My girlfriend at the time was so pissed off at me because of my addiction to the game that she broke up with me and I don't remember even caring. Actually I was happy because that gave me more time to play the game without being disturbed, when I found out about mods for it 6 months later I got re-addicted for months and I was still playing the game fairly regularly until about 2010. I got Skyrim when it came out on 11-11-2011 and enjoyed it for a good year or two then went back to Oblivion before playing Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind. Daggerfall was surprisingly really good too and so was Morrowind. Hated Morrowind's scenery though, everything was just so dreary and ugly but the story and music were pretty good. Oblivion really does have the best overall package though.

@043 Daggerfall's the biggest, Morrowind's the weirdest, Skyrim's the most accessible... Oblivion isn't as easy to sum up. I like it best because Cyrodiil has such a nice vibe. It's a lovely, pleasant world to explore, the music is Jeremy Soule at his best, the quest writing is really creative... like you said, the best overall package. One underrated feature of Oblivion is the NPCs, IMO. Almost every unique NPC has a greeting line where they say who they are and something about themselves. They all have schedules, and some of them are really interesting... drug addict NPCs who wander around trying to score Skooma, wizard NPCs who wander around forests blasting wildlife with fireballs, NPCs who have secret love affairs... if you like "people watching", then Oblivion is the game for you. Skyrim's NPCs are so _bland_ in comparison.

To me it was like the first time I had played Grand Theft Auto 3, that jump from PS1 games, GTA 1 especially to seeing the 3d world of GTA 3 was mindblowing. I remember the first time I played Oblivion I went to visit family in another country and he had this thing called an Xbox 360, I didn't know what this thing was at the time and my cousin told me that I could play it just don't save and he'll be back after eating. The week was supposed to be about family but I took every opportunity to sneak away and play, pure addiction from seeing how beautiful the graphics were and how good the bow looked and sounded when firing it. We had some good times. When I went home I forgot about it after a while and was reminded of the 360's existence later that year when I seen the Gears of War trailers, by Christmas I was unboxing my very own 360 and on that console I cannot tell what is my favourite game between Gears of War, Oblivion and Halo 3. I still have friends to this day that I made on Gears of War 2 back in 2008... if it wasn't for playing Oblivion at my cousins house and learning it can't be played on the PS2 I may never have decided that I NEEDED the 360.

I can tell you what it is. The whole world and the way everything is designed is like diving into another world. And if that world is exactly your cup of tea, you don't want to leave anymore. The atmosphere, the lighting, the large empty and peaceful areas outside. All the shit you could do with magic - it was just like "yeah, do whatever you want, idc". And my favorite city and house in the game was bravil. So run-down, but when I decorated my house with everything I could find that would somehow match what I was aiming for ... Looting dungeons, bringing it back and spending HOURS trying to get one book onto the shelves, only to reload because you've just thrown the others across the room by trying to do that. It's just a (seemingly) endless medieval-fantasy-playground / sandbox. I even loved the dungeons - I mean, in reality they wouldn't look too differently either. Just happy to see that others are still giving love to this gem as well, even after all these years

I think the biggest failures of Skyrim and Fallout 4, compared to Oblivion and Fallout 3, were the scripted events that play out every playthrough the first you enter an area. Skyrim has three to four big ones per Hold; two or three per city and one or two per town. Fallout 4 has one for nearly every location, from the cities to the settlements to any raider infested ruin. Interiors within interiors may have scripted events; most buildings in Diamond City and Good Neighbor for example. It's even worse when you're dozens of levels or hours into a playthrough and one of these plays, and they don't take into account the players strengths, abilities, or story progression, hell even the time of day. _Skyrim_ First time in Riverwood, "I saw a dragon!" First time in Whiterun hold, the companions killing the giant. First time in Dragonsreach, Jarl Balgruuf arguing with his brother and the Steward. First time in Solitude, Roggvir's execution. Etc. _Fallout 4_ Second time in Sanctuary, robot butler's master returns. First time at the Drumlin Diner, junky son owes caps. First time in Diamond City, Piper's locked outside the gates. First time in Good Neighbor, protection/toll scheme goes awry for unwitting citizen. Etc. Whereas in Oblivion and Fallout 3, there are so few that the world feels more natural. The world and it's people existed before the player showed up, they weren't waiting for you before putting on their little play. I'm really straining to even think of a list here. Oblivion, I actually can't think of any scripted events outside of ongoing quests, just NPCs approaching the player. Fallout 3, I can only think of Gob and Dr. Zimmer. _Oblivion_ First time in Skingrad, Glarthir the town eccentric approaches you for help because he doesn't trust the locals. First time in Chorrol, Dar-Ma approaches you to welcome you to town because she's so sweet. First time in Kvatch, a crazy altmer screams about daedra attacking the city. _Fallout 3_ First time in most towns, a named NPC approaches you to get a read on your intentions. First time in Moriarty's Saloon, Gob is banging on the radio because its getting a poor signal. First time in the Rivet City Lab, Dr. Zimmer is explaining the importance of finding his escaped synth to a local scientist. Oblivion and Fallout 3 invite the player to live in the world. While Skyrim and Fallout 4 are putting on a show, desperately trying to keep your attention, even if they've already got it.

Sound design, world building, and quests are the three pillars that make this game better than the rest. Just reinstalled it vanilla and have been putting in some hours into it. It definitely has a charm to it, but man it’s got to be the best world of any elder scrolls. Skyrim’s world is cool for its cold mountainous landscapes, and Morrowind is great for its awe inspiring world and game mechanics, but you can’t beat Oblivion. Also that dark brotherhood quest line is still unmatched and I don’t think it will ever be beat.

One of your best points that hit me was how magical it was discovering the dark brotherhood on your own, no spoilers, no content hunting, not knowing anything about them, this is how I like to approach new games. I will look up some reviews at best or a couple quick videos to display some simple trailer tier footage and play it or don't. Otherwise even if the game looks cool and I for whatever reason know I won't play it, only then will I dive deep in overviews and detailed reviews.

After playing Oblivion for 95~ in game days, only playing the shivering isles dlc, a portion of the mage guild quests and a menagerie of side quests, I have realized how much of a corporate shell Skyrim is. Skyrim is so serious, so bleak, and all of the quests and dungeons are just the same thing in different costumes. All the NPCs just say "need something?" As if i didnt just defeat the literal eater of worlds. Oblivion feels like love and passion was poured into every single rock and tree. One minute I'm entering a painting to save an artist and his magic brush, the next I'm fighting a necromancer in the basement of my house. There's always something to do at the point that I'm at, and the whimsy and vibe the characters and world have makes everything feel right if yknow what I mean. This is one of my favorite games of all time, and while I still love skyrim, there is nothing that can compare to the feeling of adventure Oblivion gives me.

I replayed through Oblivion again recently, and I think the game STILL holds up today to even modern standards. Yes, there's lots a jank (as you said) but it's a good jank. It's what made the game memorable. I will say though, I disagree with the combat being passable. Yes, this game's combat has been modernized in newer RPG games, but this game is hard. At least in my play through. I forgot how much strategy I have you use when fighting enemies. And this game doesn't feel like skyrim where shit is just tanky and does more damage to you. There's plenty of things in your arsenal that you have to use. Otherwise if you don't you'll die a lot. Still such a great game and a great nostalgia trip. The intro to this game is better than skyrim's in my opinion. skyrim still has a good intro, but meeting Urial Septem is something else.

Main problem with Oblivion's combat is that health scales way more than damage. Early-game, everything's fine - combat is lethal and snappy. Late-game, it takes like 5 minutes to kill mooks, and said mooks do almost no damage to you. It's like you're slapping each other with pool noodles - it gets tedious.

I recently started Oblivion for the first time.... In defense of the main story... Urial Septim was a major character in all previous Elder Scrolls game... I normally do not like Fantasy genre at all... but a genre is allowed to be a genre... Emperor Septim was an avid follower of the Nine and practiced Astrology.... In Elder Scrolls these religions are actually real without debate... its not like religion in our world where the existence of God and spirits are debatable... it can be Impreically demonstrated that these religions exist and are real in the Elder Scrolls universe... so his whole "you are the chosen side kick that will help Martin save the world " is a legit story telling Mechanic.... I feel like people expect everything to be an action hero game like Fallout NV, Skyrim, and Mass Effect... where a Game like Fallout 3 is more of a mystery genre where story elements are scattered throughout the map and not delivered in standard exposition of story points (and you might not get the whole story in a single play through), and Oblivion actually uses Fantasy elements to advance the story instead of some type of "action elements " to advance the story and deliver and exposition of key points... So often I hear "Bethesda has bad writing " arguments based on the fact that the story being delivered in some other way than directly telling the story, or allowing the story to be told on the terms of the Genre of the story... and then the same people mostly Fallout NV cult boys will complain that Bethesda is dumbing down their games... it's a fair criticism that Bethesda is dumbing down their games, even Todd Howard acknowledged this talking about FO4 and Skyrim... but the main reason for this is people complaining that Bethesda isn't giving us a good story (translation: Bethesda isn't giving us a story that is simpler or that uses story telling devices that are normally bad but should be acceptable in specific genre of story telling).... Edit: I got through the Vanille game... now I'm modding... and now I have mounted horse combat... and Yes Horse Armor is the GOAT DLC now

Since you are going down memory lane, I will too. My first Bethesda game I ever played was Morrowind. Oddly enough I played it after Oblivion came out, but before Skyrim. I was drunk, and hanging out at my best friend's house. He was telling me about his modded original Xbox that he bought from a guy in town. It had a whole bunch of games stored in the Xbox itself. We played Halo and got drunk until he passed out, then O started going through the other games that were on there. I found Morrowind. Because I had been drinking all night, I was super impatient, and didn't read anything lol. I know I was a dark elf, and can't remember what class. I ended up not knowing what I was doing and getting lost for a couple hours being killed by mudcrabs. The next day I didn't remember the name, so I was never able to actually seek the game out. My friend had never even tried it, so he was no help. Anyway, I didn't touch another Bethesda game until Fallout New Vegas. I literally started playing it about a month or so before skyrim came out. Again, on a friend's Xbox. This was my first roommate, so different guy. I had been just enjoying NV without thinking about any other games until my roommate was playing Skyrim one day. He's like "here, check it out. It's made by the same people who make fallout, you're gonna like it." I didn't even get to see the intro because he'd already been playing for awhile when I got off work. I had no idea about the dragons until I played it myself. I genuinely thought Alduin would kill me in Helgen, so I was terrified lol. Then the spiders.... I have a bad relationship with spiders. The adrenaline was great I was om edge from the time Alduin showed up until I left the cave with Ralof. What really sold me, though, was when the world just opened up to me and Ralof says "Maybe we should split up" and I just set off in a random direction. My life has never been the same since. I did my first playthrough as a Dark Elf wielding spells in the offhand and a sword in the main. I stuck with the Stormcloaks because I was still really pissed about being executed just for being around when they jumped Ulfric. Fuck that lol. Skyrim made me start looking up other Bethesda games. When I got my PC I immediately downloaded Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind. I loved all three. Then I decided to try the games no one talks about, Arena and Daggerfall. Daggerfall quickly became my favorite, with Oblivion as my close second. If I could accurately get the play time for each game, Daggerfall and Oblivion would probably be neck and neck. I like Morrowind better than Oblivion in some areas. Actually for the same reason I like Oblivion better than Skyrim, and Daggerfall better than the other. The lack of hand-holding, as you go back in time, each game becomes more raw. The difference is that Oblivion wins over Morrowind because the world isn't as bleak and depressing. It's a place you want to be.

One of the best things about Oblivion that I've never seen anyone talk about, hopefully you rectify that, is how you can assign actions to more than one key. For example I have interact as the default 'e' but also mouse 3. Grab is the default 'z' and mouse 4. Can't do that in Skyrim. I'd bet it's because of the consolization of the game. Oblivion came out for consoles, but iirc wasn't developed for them.

As of today, i do realise that oblivion was and still is the best TES i ever played, as it was the first also for me as i did get the game in the year of release, and i loved it at first hour, i did eventualy played morrowind and tried it for the love i had for the series, but it didnt took that impact like oblivion did, when skyrim came out, i did got hooked on skyrim till today, but that experience i got with oblivion, i didnt get that same feel with the other two, still i like skyrim a lot, and i have 600h in it, but oblivion, i can replay today and still get that same feel i got before, and dont know why lol, if i did the same to skyrim i dont get the same feel but i still get an experience, cant wait for skyoblivion to come out and experience the game again, only started playing fallout long after i played all dlcs of oblivion, and i started a bit late because i didnt know it was like a oblivion but more futuristic, i fell in love with it too, and did make it my second favorite game, and for that series New Vegas is my choosen even if 3 was my first game played, i also like tactics too, but NV is the best for me, 4 is a mixed experience for me but i still like it in a good way, many hours i did spend playing any of these master pieces and all of them are a good time and i enjoy it all, some more than others, but all of them are great games trought and trought

Oblivion was my first elder scrolls game, but I have always had a love hate relationship with it. It's gorgeous at times, the music, lighting, colors, and trees/foliage really pull the game together. The architecture of the towns and cities is pretty nice too. It's also nice the quests don't even require you to go and clear out some random ruin or dungeon, but have some good writing and story telling. I didn't ever like how you can become a archmage without needing to know magic. You can be a barbarian and still become leader of the mages guild, just like skyrims winter hold. Having frost crag spire also made the mages guild completely pointless. I also disliked the forts all being crumbled ruins with no legionnaires upkeeping and staffing forts to protect roads and outskirts of cities. You'd think it being the imperial Homeland and capital, there'd be more functional forts than Morrowind. I also wish the water ways were more navigable so that it made sense that there are ships docking at the waterfront. Also didn't make sense that leyawin wouldn't have docks like anvil and the waterfront does, and the niben just felt way too scaled down, like how can a ship sale from the topal bay to the imperial city? The game was also surprisingly empty, but I didn't mind that. The game being gorgeous made up for it be underpopulated and empty. Always broke my heart that they cut out so much content. They removed the county of sutch and the city of sutch, which made a empty void along hammrfell. They also removed the quest of restoring kvatch after you retrieve the counts ring.

You mentioned the Thieves Guild questline and that reminds me one of my favorite moments in it. Minor spoilers When you're doing quests for the Gray Fox and he mentions how the identity of the Gray Fox is a curse and that he's even told you his real name several times and you've already forgotten it. That's a great way of fourth wall breaking playing mind games on the players. When he said that I actually did a double take like wait when the hell did he say that?

Morrowind is my favorite TES game overall, but Oblivion was the first one I got really into, and I fell in love with it the same moment you did. I'll never forget emerging from the sewers, not knowing where to go, and running into the first bandit camp to get my ass handed to me. That was when I realized this world was larger than myself, and I needed to learn how to master it. Like you said, it was magical.

Just finished Skyrim. And that makes me find out I love Oblivion. Oblivion is a game full of atmosphere. And the dialogues are so real and fun to me. Skyrim kind of weakens the personality of NPCs, making them no souls, compared to Oblivion. Everything is too reasonable and plain in Skyrim. Dragons are not so exciting. I can't get the thrill I got in Oblivion in Skyrim. Same with fallout 4, Bethesda is going downhill, trying to build farming games to make people spend lots of time. The spirit of RPG is disappearing. Bethesda's peak is Morrowind and Oblivion. Skyrim is okay, to be honest.

I think my favorite TES is still Morrowind (maybe because it was also my first contact with the series as well as it's location (I really like Dunmer and Dwemer - that Sotha Sil DLC in ESO is my 2nd most fav part of that game), though I also simply like openness and various systems more - it's a game since before the great dumbing down began with Oblivion (I know that Daggerfall is even more complex in some areas but that's completely different era, not only for games but even for TES series). I liked 3 houses + guild quests (especially skill requirements to advance and the duel for the title of Archmage), I liked how cities were not afraid to be complex (one word: Vivec), the freedom of movement with jump and levitation spells, etc. Granted, there were many improvements developed in later games (I think I like Skyrim's Vampirism the most, followed by Oblivion's), obviously the modding capabilities and few others (graphics is definitely not one of them - BGS' games always look dated on their day one). But I agree, Oblivion has some very strong unique points about it that can't be rivaled by other games (Shimmering Isles might be my favorite part of TES series). That escape-room mission from Dark Brotherhood where you have to kill everyone without raising suspicions? Masterpiece. Finally, Frostcrag Spire (with some mod upgrades to not make it feel so empty) might be my favorite player house that's not 100% from mod as well. Granted, I almost exclusively play heavily modded so many of my points might be incorrect when applied to vanilla games, but still...

Yea I can relate so much, I played some games before I got my hands on Oblivion as a kid but this is what really got me into games. Like you said the Moment I got out of that sewer and realizing I can walk everywhere on this big vast world was taking my breath. The amount of things to discover, interesting stories and secrets to find was so amazing to me as a kid and it still is in hindsight. Sadly I can't play this game anymore, I tried but now looking at the graphics today I would ruin the memories. Back then everything seemed so realistic to me, and my Memories of Oblivion are very vivid and realistic like my brain enhanced the graphics for me.

Oblivion was your first elder scrolls? It was a masterpiece. Morrowind was your first elder scrolls? It was a masterpiece. Skyrim was your first elder scrolls? It was a masterpiece. Sensing a pattern here? Everyone's first elder scrolls has a special place in their heart and for different reasons. Oblivion is not better than skyrim, it just means more to you as an individual. Every elder scrolls game follows the same formula, the musical motif's, the sweeping landscapes and grand quests. It's basically personal preference backed by nostalgia.

Funny thing about TES scale. DaggerFall is smaller than Cyrodil (oblivion) on the world map. Playable area though DaggerFall is immense. If you scaled Cyrodil up to match DaggerFall then the imperial island is enormous and the city is just a small dot on it.

I first played Oblivion on Xbox360 in 2008 but it was until a year later I got my own Xbox360 & really really got into it! It became my favorite Game of All time, for quite a while? I had NEVER played anything so Huge & wonderful with such an amazing sense of Discovery & Awe!! It was truly amazing & I completed it a few times & played countless character builds!! I always liked to create a dark elf and then make his skin kind of pasty white so he looked like an imperial with long black hair straight out of last of the Mohicans or some shit but with blood red eyes!!!! The game was so amazing. I also like it better than Skyrim.

This was the first Elder Scrolls I played too, and the main reason I picked up an XB360. I must've easily put many hundreds of hours into the game and just enjoyed living in the world. It was just so far beyond anything available at the time. Had a big fat strategy guide with a million sticky notes placed all through it for quests and just cool things to read through. While objectively, Skyrim is a 'better' game, it never felt like it had the magic and soul that Oblivion does. Time to start another playthrough!

I don't even need to watch the video, I already whole heartedly agree. Oblivion was better in a multitude of ways. Combat was more complex with how the stamina and timing was taken into account, the world was bigger and the cities more representative of an actual city compared to Skyrim's collection of glorified mud huts. Oh and the story lines were so much more enjoyable to me personally. But I will say I have played through Skyrim many more times than I did Oblivion, but modders are the only reason I played Skyrim more ultimately, when comparing vanilla experiences, Oblivion takes the cake.

I was so addicted to this game when it came out that it was scary. I got it like a month or two after it came out after seeing it in a magazine and I barely left my computer (I played it on PC) over a week long period. I made a shitload of mistakes on my first character that was a Khajiit Acrobat and I still have the save file on my old hard drive. I didn't understand the levelling system until my second character so I had to turn the difficulty slider to the easiest possible to even kill anything lol! It was so much fun jumping from rooftop to rooftop and cheesing the game by using a bow and jumping on top of pillars in Ayleid ruins or to break line of sight with enemies to get away. I played Skyrim but it just wasn't the same with the lack of Acrobatics, Unarmed, and Spellcrafting. Plus, Skyrim's story and quests were horrible compared to Oblivion and it was far too serious for my taste.

In all honesty, Oblivion feels more forward-looking and ambitious than Skyrim. The quests and NPC programming are genuinely much more complex and fleshed out. The systems in general run so much deeper but you don't actually need to go that deep in order to enjoy yourself and do well. I really don't think Skyrim was ahead of its time, it felt like a big step back in almost every way. Also while I agree the main quest isn't as well written as many side quests, I don't agree that you're a chosen one or even that the main quest is super cheesy. Martin is the chosen one, you're just the guy who was meant to be in the right place at the right time to make sure Martin got to the end of his path. You're not any more of a chosen one than Baurus. And while they could have done Uriel's death a little better, nothing changes the ultimate point that it was his time to die and pass the torch to his last remaining heir. The details of how he was going to die don't matter as much.

Literally, the only thing I've heard people complain about in oblivion is the characters' faces and the random conversations npcs have. Honestly, anyone who rates a game based on graphics is a simpleton. And atleast the NPCs interact with each other making the world seem alive. Skyrim NPCs are entirely scripted and will just silently stand around together if they dont have a scripted conversation.

This might end up being a long post. Sorry in advanced. To me, Skyrim lost the sense of wonder that Morrowind and Oblivion gave you upon start-up. In Morrowind, the game starts with you having a nightmare as some God whispers an ancient prophecy to you before you're abruptly awoken by your bunkmate who was concerned for you because you weren't looking right. A slaver comes below deck to your bunk and has you follow him outside where you're initially hit by this sense of awe where you're seeing familiar things like the boat, dock, builds and people, but you're also seeing crazy wondrous things like gigantic mushrooms and a humongous flea standing next to a set of stairs. You're then handed off to the Warrant Officer at which point he escorts you into the Seyda Neen office to officially document you for release. After building your character and you make it through the very brief tutorial inside that office building, you're let out into Seyda Neen proper with a note in your pocket saying "Go talk to this guy the next town over." and it leaves you to either do that or just go explore and discover til your heart's content. --My first character was a Nord. Did everything in Seyda Neen I thought there was to do and began my trek towards what I thought was Balmora. Went spelunking in a cave that had a Necromancer in it. After killing the Necromancer I realized I couldn't move. Damn batard's minion hit me with a disease that lowered my endurance to 1 so I couldn't move. I pissed and moaned about it to my friend later that day when he came over and he looked at my character on Xbox and was like "Yeah that's why. You got a disease." and when I found out that they didn't just go away over time, I rerolled my character and made an Argonian based on my friends suggestion because they were resistant to Disease and Poison and that's the character I mained until I beat the game. In Oblivion you get that intro cutscene that thanks to that song and Sir Patrick Stewart's delivery of those opening lines, that intro went FAR harder than it had any right to. Then of course you go through the tutorial prison thing, you finalize your character at the sewer gate entrance and the very first thing you see is this massive expansive world, and some long ancient ruins that's begging to be explored. And that music. Mmm. The music. Oh yeah. That music in Oblivion is/was such a vibe. That song that plays when you first step out of the sewers in Oblivion invokes in me the same feelings that the Majula theme song in Dark Souls 2 gives me. --I don't know why I remember this, but one of my fondest memories of Oblivion was walking out of some dank forgotten and ruined Fort having just barely survived clearing it out by the skin of my teeth. I had no mana left to heal. Was all out of my health potions. The only weapon I had that wasn't broken was some dinky shortsword I hadn't leveled up because I was going a 2h plate build. I figured I'd go out of the keep, rest back up to full then my horse and I would ride back to town and sell off all of the treasure I just got. Couldn't rest in the keep because of some rat I left alive at the start of the delve and that I didn't have the health to try and fight afterwords. Got like 3 hours worth of rest in making it early morning when the rest was interrupted by a roaming pack of Goblins. Damn things killed my horse and nearly killed me. I started walking back to the Imperial City because I was stupid back then and thought that because Morrowind didn't have fast travel that Oblivion didn't either. Fast travel wasn't something that even popped into my mind as an option in games at the time. At that point in time fast-travelling in a game to me just meant you ride a static, game-controlled mount from one spot to another like in WoW. I walked up a hill through the trees and grass and at the top of the hill I caught a glimpse of the Imperial City as the sun began to rise behind it. I'll never forget just how large that game world felt after that, or all the wondrous things I had yet to experience or discover. Skyrim doesn't do any of that though. The forest you ride through looks cool and all, but it doesn't open up into anything except another claustrophobic town. The carriage ride itself felt rather claustrophobic because you couldn't fully pan the camera around, you were stuck in like a 180 degree wedge. Then you just arrive in the center of a town where there's people piled to your left, buildings to your right and nothing visually really going on ahead of you. Then as you're about to be executed the big bad dragon shows up and everybody soils themselves, at which point you flee into the keep where you go with either the sympathetic Imperial or the zealot rebel and fight your way through the keep. Even once you step outside of Helgen into relative safety, it's not like it opens up into this crescendo of the main theme and a sweeping vista or anything like that. It's more cramped, dense trees and rocks that obscure more than anything 20 feet away from you. It's not until like 2 hours into your new character once you're ready to leave Riverwood and head to Whiterun do you get hit with a big, open field view of the game world, and even that is obscured mainly by Whiterun itself. Skyrim, while still a fantastic game, doesn't capture the wonder and amazement that is the opening segments of Morrowind and Oblivion, and I'm afraid TES VI probably wont either unfortunately.

I always thought the menus and the faction cards with the artwork that you had for everything were so fitting and amazing for the game? Skyrim didn't have none of that extra flavor.... Oblivion whenever you leveled up in a guild , you would get a new faction card to look at and eventually you would have them all with all of the maxed out stating your rank and title of each individual group as well as your level. It was just a perfect game that had many imperfections!?

It has to be a 200+ Gig game, that sets your console on fire and breaks it due to under performance possessing. 200+ plus dollar deluxe editions, charge them 20$ for a blue skin in the E Shop. And a credit card registration requirement. Mario 3 1997 is a better game than anything else in todays market, you know why? It's only 3 bucks. And it doesn't crash.
