With the release of the new The Gold Road chapter in June, Elder Scrolls Online is fixing the problem I've had with it since it released 10 years ago in 2014. Watch on to find out what my issue is and how The Gold Road will be fixing it.

To be fair it is ESO, it is one of the least MMO-like MMO's on the market - which is the reason why most MMO players don't really care for it (that, and the obnoxiously predatory cash shop and loot boxes).

So glad to see ESO getting coverage! If anyone is coming back to the game, there is also now a really helpful guild-finding tool. I really encourage finding a guild. The number of people who will run dungeons and trials, while also stopping during the run to admire the beauty or lore of the area, is outstanding!

My main issue with the game is that I always feel as if I were missing out, because of how they monetize the game. While it is buy to play like guildwars , plus buying the "chapters" : Summerset, Elsweyr, Greymoor, Blackwood, High Isle, Necrom, Gold Road now. But wait there is more ! (8) Zone DLCs costing around 2000-3000 Crowns each and Dungeon DLC (11) costing 1500 Crowns each. BUT WAIT THERE IS EVEN MORE! You have limited bag space, but need to hold herbs , ores or other goods? ESO+ will provide you that and all the DLC except for the 2 most recent chapters... BUT WAIT THERE IS SOME HOW EVEN MORE ! Loot crates ! Wish it did not nickle and dime me for everything.

If you just subscribe then you only ever have to buy the most recent chapter, have practically infinite bag space and get a monthly allotment of more Crowns than I know what to do with. I legit mostly use them to buy zones for my friends. Like, yes, the monetization model is a mess, but it doesn't cost any more to play ESO than WoW.

@@MxReeseyeah I had a subscription for a long time. You only needed to buy the main yearly expansion if you wanted it straight away and you got the smaller ones "free". I'm not sure what people expect from a free to play game. They have to pay for it somehow. They dropped mandatory subscriptions early because people didn't like it So instead they had to go paid expansion or a choice to subscribe. At the time it honestly didn't feel egregious at all. I got what was basically a decent size new area for £30 a year and I played it enough that having the subscription basically equated to a lot less than all the other games I would have been buying if I wasn't constantly playing the same one. I can totally see that if you were jumping in now it could seem overwhelming, there's a lot of game. It's actually why I dropped off. I wanted to try other stuff and after a few months I felt a bit out of the loop with my guilds and people I played with. I've spent a lot of the time since alternating between new games and filling in the ones I missed while I played ESO for three years. I sometimes miss it, I genuinely loved the game. I just know my personality and would just drown in FOMO. Plus I have a son now and that means I can't just sit down and play for five hours straight.

For me, ESO's major problem is how adventuring on zones won't fell so rewarding... to have good sets of amor and weapons you gotta do the same dungeon over and over.. after 30 minutes on a specific zone I feel like I'm a infinite grind killing hundreds of easy enemies to meet an easy boss and be rewarded with almost nothing. I would love to be more challenged while exploring zones and be rewarded as such. Furthermore, dungeons are usually played with the unique purpose of rushing and getting the items and xp, so it feels less immersive to me.. sometimes, I can't even read the question dialogs since the party is rushing through the dungeon

You nailed it. Just booted up Fallout 3 again after years of not playing Bethesda games and now that I'm older it's easier for me to spot the main gameplay loop: you get a quest, go out to the objective, get side tracked by a landmark, clear the place of enemies, get loot, fast travel to a merchant, sell, and upgrade your equipment. ESO doesn't have that because you just won't be getting any serious loop doing the single player landmarks. There's no great armor or sources of gold you'll just happen to stumble on to. That said, the fact that you can use craft really solid armor that's more than enough to dominate the single player content strikes me as a decent middle ground given that ESO is, at bottom, an MMO

If they just take away all the MMO nonsense, the class system, the race locking, the weird bow and magic systems, the skills locked to specific weapon types, the predatory cash shop, paid monthly subscription, paid dlc, separate paid dungeons, limited bag space (unless you pay extra), bad PvP, weird dungeon system, poorly implemented mount system, poor enemy AI, and bad pacing... it could almost be a Top 5 game in the franchise.

@@chrismanuel9768 I agree with all of that except the DLC/Subscription stuff honestly. The expansion prices aren't actually all that unreasonable for how much content they each add, not to mention older ones are cheaper. That's not an issue by any measure, that's an opinion and personal desire. When I did play this game there was always plenty of people online and playing. So it's not like you're lacking people, you just want to play with others who didn't get it on the same console as you. Cross play does not by any measure make or break a game in terms of content. It just upsets you personally, big difference.

As an on-and-off ESO player myself, my biggest issues with the game are the visuals and animations. I dislike the art style (at least the character design), the animations look cheap and dated and the abilities don't feel impactful enough, you may ne a powerfull Sorcerer in the game but the abilities look like they tickle the enemies rather than destroy them. When I play ESO I play for the Build Crafing and generally the gameplay part. The story is mostly ok but it hasn't been groundbreakingly good. Star Wars the Old Republic had a better story by far across the board and had choices that gave meaningful flavor. Something ESO has lacked. I wish the game would look like the cinematic trailers and I wish they would hire more and better writers to add an RPG experience akin to Baldurs Gate 3 or old Bioware games. Then ESO would likely be the best game ever. But as it stands it's fun to hop in and out every now and then.

ESO is my first Elder Scrolls game. The other games seem fun as well but 99% of the time I only game with other people. ESO is a really fun multiplayer experience & with so much to do and explore doing it with a funny group of individuals is the absolute best. peak gaming. I'm still relatively new to the game and so are my friends but so far I have to say its been the most fun i've had in years. I have yet to really have any problems with the game [other than it having its own launcher for some reason]

They also added blackwood in another DLC, which adds the town of Leyawin as a pve environment. So they have already fixed your biggest problem years ago.

I came to this game recently as its the closest I can find to guild wars 2 on a console and my cheap ass PC can't run gw2 well enough on my bad Internet to make it really enjoyable. But this has similarities i like, such as the map exploration sky shards instead of hero points and multiple class variations on each class just makes for that extra freedom in your character builds. I think a way to queue for trials would be nice as well for those shy players who will watch what they have to do so they can minimise their vocal interaction.

I would not recommend doing trials with random players. You should try to find a guild which does raiding for newer players. But I suppose you might have to search a bit.

Ooo me! I've been a TESO player since the very first beta and I've never left. It's... honestly a huge part of my life. My first game was Skyrim, so I don't have a ton of beloved childhood memories, as I was already in my 20s, but ESO and Zenimax Media's games (ES and Fallout) in general mean a lot to me.

My biggest issue with ESO is other players. Wish there was some kind of system to phase them out or something like that. It's annoying when you are doing story content and someone comes bunny hopping through and you end up racing each other to the end of that dungeon or whatever. Not really immersive.

@@mattmalcore801 yup, and I know quite a few who do. One of the other officers in the guild I've been in since 2017 is like that. Once he beat the original story he almost never comes back to PvE. Only to do the new dungeons and trials.

I've only just started a couple of weeks ago (base game, no DLC except Thieves Guild) but it's really impressing me so far, as another filthy casual who just wants to explore & brainlessly fill things with arrows & steal anything that isn't nailed down. There's no way I'm going back to paying a subscription for any game, but I am really tempted to buy the Gold Road Collection Pack or whatever it's called because there's just so much stuff.

I played for 600 hours or something like that and had a blast but finding people for dungeons was an absolute nightmare locking me out certain content and I had to do PvP to get the best weapons for solo play. On top of having to do dailies- it felt like anything I did was pointless. Maybe it’s because I tried on PSN. I’d play on PC if I didn’t already have the Ring of the Pale Order

Coming from Dark Age of Camelot as my first MMO (yep... old...) I actually liked the idea of Cyrodiil... I hated the poor execution, so much I quit playing TESO after one month until One Tamriel. Well, not the only reason, but certainly not the weakest one. That being said: I welcome the new area. New areas are always good :)

I've thought a lot lately about how great it would have been to get a non-MMO Elder Scrolls that just had these type of massive expansions to see new regions of Tamriel. I know it would not be as much of a money maker, but I absolutely would be willing to pay a higher price for such huge content drops. Never been a fan of MMOs.

They lie about players by claiming everyone that's ever played is a "player", even when it's throwaway free accounts for their twice yearly "free weekends". Every time anyone tries it on a new account, even if it's a returning player on a new account or someone with multiple accounts, they claim it as a new player. If their inflated numbers were true, 10% of the entire population of America would be playing ESO right now. It's blatantly false.

My biggest problem with ESO is it deleted most of what makes ES games fun and monetized the rest of it. There’s nearly no world clutter and you can’t move or place anything that is there, AND the homes are monetized. So what you’re left with is essentially a competent reskin of WoW. And that’s fine, but not a compelling reason for me to play it beyond the test run I gave it. I also dislike that questing rewards are lower tier than dungeons. I HATE games that reward you better for queuing levels 1-max than actually playing the rest of the game. It’s two totally different play styles and you don’t need to incentivize queuing. The people who are gonna do it are gonna do it. Trouble is, they’re playing alongside people like me who view steamrolling the same dungeon five times for drop upgrades and then switching to the next tier as a chore that’s pulling them away from everything else. And you know what? The dedicated dungeon players don’t want me there. Anyway, that’s just me. I was prepared to be a minor whale when I bought the game a couple years ago, and it just didn’t hook me.
