I think part of the issue is that many of them probably developed their taste in music in…gentler…times-times when you’re singing about love and romance with maybe some Beach Boys surfing songs and the songs involving dark subjects (like “Last Kiss”, “Billy, Don’t Be a Hero”, and “In the Ghetto”) dealt with them in very romantic, gentle ways. You could use the Kingston Trio’s “Tom Dooley” as a lullaby to fall asleep to even though it’s about someone who’s going to be executed because he committed murder! So they might not appreciate there are other emotions to express in song. (In a similar vein, I’ve seen many metal fans who can’t seem to handle it when their favorite bands express anything other than rage.)

“There’s no flow, there’s no beauty in it” News flash, metal isn’t supposed to be beautiful. It’s a wild, aggressive, explosion of emotions with a beautiful message. SOAD is the embodiment of that.
