Vanirs apology never sat right with me. on my 50th reread I just figured out why. So Oromis chose him to be Eragons rival because of his attitude. He hates that Eragon was picked as rider and thinks a human could never be the rider they need and just takes out all his frustration on Eragon. But he only apologized and changed his attitude after Eragon is made into the rider they needed. He not sorry for being an asshole and he doesn't think his misdirected anger was unjustified. He doesn't change his mind at all. Vanir's the worst.
