I don''t think you realize how easy this is for a rider with a certain level of skill and experience. The grade is 25-30% max, a XC MTB rider will climb 35 to 40% grades easily. On road you won't see these grades...

Wouldn’t it be easier to just run a 10-46 cassette? I’m running a mtb cassette on my road bike, single chain ring, and never looking back to the smaller gear ratios of road bikes Lol. The mtb cassette on my road bike makes the hardest climbs in my area, the one that makes us cry, a walk in the park. Sure, I’m not the fastest, but I go up without even worrying that I can’t. Because it’s so easy slowly make your way up

If it's too steep, surely a really low hear ratio won't help, as you could go so slowly you'd just fall over.

Indeed proper gearing is important as well as having fitness to begin with for this type of scenario. From my experience riding steep hills at around 4-5kph and less than 40 cadence is where you will likely start losing your balance. A 70kg rider going 5kph on 33% gradient would be doing at least 375 watts. For every other 1kph add 75watts. Gearing wise 5kph with 34x34 relates to 40rpm only. Most of the riders with the exception of first few guys seem to have lower gearing, likely 34x28 or even 25 on the back and it's the biggest reason why they are not able to reach the top.
@niceguy1774

Quite simply; No. The idea that _____ gearing combination is more efficient, just no one thought to try it, is a pretty wild one in 2022.
