This game is awesome! Thanks for the video! Tip: We usually play it so that player on your right reads your encounters and keeps the pass/fail effect secret until you have rolled the test. It adds nice sense of mystery ;)

Yeah, not knowing what will happen on success/fail can cause som serious angst. Is this check important? Important enought for the focus I really want to keep for later? Important enough to spend a clue? Highly recommend to play it that way!

Love this. I've got every expansion up until Masks of Nyarlathotep mixed into one and occasionally play solo with 4 investigators. It's definitely a long 6 hours where I usually lose, but I love the thematic side of this.

I play with my daughter (she's 6 ... I'll admit, she's a very strange 6) and we've only won twice - the first time against Azathoth, and then about the 15th time against Azathoth. She refuses to be any character except Lily Chen though .... I blame Lily, myself. She still refers to Cthulhu as "Ktulu-chan" so ... I don't know ... am I a good father, although we lose?

Aaron's really good at book keeping and you guys did a great job! Just a little reminder, not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but you're not supposed to finish the current mystery and reveal a new one until after the end of the mythos phase, and this rule applies to all mystery cards. It doesn't really matter too much most of the time, but there are a few mythos cards that will cause the investigators to undo finished mysteries. If you finish a mystery during the encounter phase and then draw a mythos card that asks you to undo 1 mystery, it would be a pain in the butt. I know the chance is slim, but I really hope you guys can play Eldritch Horror again with other expansions! I really love watching you guys play co-op games that involve role-playing and story-telling!

This rule also means that you cold lose the game before getting to that last mythos phase, never getting to solve the third mystery. I speak from experience on this one.

Glad to see Aaron back. I did not realize that he had moved away - I thought maybe he got burnout or something from doing the show. I missed Dave though and his "This game is easy" comment that seems to come up in every cooperative game on the show :) The co-op games are by far my favorite play throughs!

Great to see Aaron again! I am glad that on solving the final Mystery that you finally realised that Mysteries aren't solved until the end of the Mythos phase! It's really important to play that out properly - especially that final one that you "glossed over" because - for instance - an Investigator that is Defeated causes Doom to Advance. While you were quite a long way away from 0, it's amazing how a single bad Mythos can shove Doom all the way down the track. In fact, that's one of the things that I'd take issue with in your game: you really had it easy with the number of amazing dice rolls you had, the fact that you already had the trapezohedron when you needed it, the ridiculous number of Improvements to Skills and the almost non-existent Impairments that you suffered. You also spent a long time with your Investigators in "the Kill Zone" (Valens' term for any Investigator on 3 or less San/Health, 'cos there are a quite a few Mythos than can Defeat you outright once you enter the Kill Zone); generally speaking, Eldritch is pretty capable of a rapid and nasty end to the game - almost as much as Arkham Horror. It was interesting that you played without the Focus mechanism, which was designed for those turns when you can't do anything useful. Overall, a fun playthrough, but one that IME wasn't a typical game of Eldritch Horror.

That final mythos phase was rough - really cancelled some of the delight in winning. I quite like how many different ways they can make dice rolls work as exciting checks.

This games good but having an expansion with focus is needed. Focus allows a player to reroll without spending clues and can be done in any space, monster or not.

@@Willemguitar when you spend focus, the chance is still the same, 33% for success. I had games, where focus has saved my ass numerous times, so yes it does make a hard game easier. Also, you don't lose any actions. Focus is a part of the game and it does make it easier, than playing without focus (free rerolls).

I will comment more later, but travel tickets are only available in cities. Edit: slightly later, he does mention it's cities only. Great playthrough, with statistically better than average rolls. =D The mythos deck may have been staged (easy encounters on top, medium in the middle, and hard on the bottom). Green cards are always monster surges, but are not necessarily harder than others. Easy ones have blue/white elder signs on the sides, and the hard ones have tentacles on the sides. A small timing issue: the mystery is not solved until the end of the mythos phase, so you don't see the next mystery until the end of the mythos phase. Seeing it early gives a slight advantage to the investigators since they know what's coming up a bit early.

"The mystery is not solved until the end of the mythos phase" I don't think that's true. Page 16 of the rulebook states: "As soon as a Mystery is solved, immediately draw a new Mystery card from the deck and place it faceup on top of the old Mystery card."

The mystery card itself says that it is solved at the end of the mythos fase, so it cannot be solved prior to that. After it is solved, you reveal the next mystery.

can you skip 1 action in the action phase or both actions in the action phase in this game to go to the encounter phase faster? (lets say i want to stay on the location i curently am to finish of a monster but the only option is to move or get a ticket (wich i already have 2 of), also can i get 2 tickets of sea and 2 railroads as a max amount or any combination of the two (i.e. 1 railroad, 1 sea)? I'm new to this game

@Sall Banjoman during the action phase, you can take one action and pass or take no action and pass, although you probably won't do it often since there is lots of actions you can take that are beneficial. Also, you can have either 2 train, 2 sea, or 1 sea & 1 train ticket, but not 2 of each. You can only have a max of 2 tickets (of any of the above combination I named) at anytime.

And... don't they pay attention to the cost of assets? Your rolled successes on the Influence roll determines your "buying power" for that acquisition. So if you roll 2 successes, you can get one item that costs 2, or two items that costs 1.

At 2:51:05 when discussing fighting the last monster, there seems to have been a mistake. " ... but, if one of you dies, the other can pick it up ..." If one player dies fighting the monster it was suggested that another player could simply pick up the weapon and continue fighting. That would be a character encounter, and in order to do any encounter you must defeat the monsters at that location. That would put them in a Catch-22 situation -- They can't defeat the monster without the weapon and can't get the weapon without defeating the monster. The Mystery card said you could gain this particular artifact in place of another one, but that assumes it is in the deck, not in active play with a (defeated) character. It seems to me that the monster defeating a player would lead to the game being lost.

According to my rule book (just had to recheck) you can buy tickets in cities, no matter if they are connected to the type of route you are buying or not. But it must be a city. And, you can only spend one ticket, unless the rules is VERY vague on that point, which (reading it four times) it is not... so only one ticket.

You can't have more than one of each ticket, so you can't get a ship ticket if you already have a ship ticket

Wrong. The only limit is that you cannot have more than a total of 2 tickets at the same time, but they may be tickets of the same type. There is even a character (in one of the later expansions) that automatically gains an additional ticket of the same type when he prepares for travel.
