Thankyou very much mate. Yes there is quite a bit of time that goes into putting these together but it is a labor of love. What started off as just some private memories has surprisingly grown a little since I began to make them public. So far so good so we will try and continue as best we can.

Would you recommend the ELD X for sambar? The bullets look and shoot very well but I’m scared that I’d get too much fragmentation at close range. I’ve got a 7mmRM on order and opted for the accubond long range projectiles. They seem to hold together and have about 50-60% weight retention. Good for close range but also mushroom well at long range. The 168gr has a 0.616 BC which is pretty damn good too
@BoltActionProductions4 жыл бұрын
I think you could see how good the ELDX worked at short range on that Hind. Shot placement is always key IMO. This information you have provided about the Accubond Long Range projectiles. Is it from your experience or from what you have read? Thanks for watching👍

The word "advertised" can often be overstated. Advertised or claimed velocity on factory ammunition is quite often overstated and the same can often be said about projectile/bullet performance. There is no such thing as a magic bullet and sometimes I really think we should all stop looking. Yes, some projectiles are better suited for different applications than others but as I have mentioned you will do far better to know how your projectile performs at different distances and use this information to choose your shot placement to suit the distance. How a projectile performs is dependent on so many things, velocity on impact, what the projectile hits (bone,mud or flesh), projectile construction, angle of shot, width of animal where you hit (neck vs chest) etc. I think you will find a long range projectile needs to be not only high in BC but light enough in the jacket to expand at lower speeds when you tap something out far. Another option when looking for a good combination for your rifle is to develop two loads with similar weight projectiles but with different construction. For argument sake you could sight your rifle with an accurate load using the ELDX or the Accubond Long Range and set it up for distance. Then use something like a Woodleigh or a Barnes TTSX when you are hunting in the scrub. This has worked well for me in my .308 when hunting the bush. First pill in the mag is a TTSX and then the rest are SST's. Let me know how you go.

Bolt-Action Productions I get you. I reckon I’ll try the ABLR and see how it goes, just to be a bit different haha. guess somebody has to test it out on the sambar eventually! No doubt it’d kill them perfectly fine but I’d love to see what kind of wound channel it makes at close range. With the ELDX if you managed full penetration on a hind at 100m while driving it at 3100fps I don’t see how you could ask for more really. When I say I was researching the ABLR I was just looking at all the forums where Americans shoot them at elk. The jacket is actually not uniform, but is nice and thin at the front and tapers way thicker at the back, so at high velocities the front half will expand and disintergrate, but the back half will always punch through. It’s probably more suited to 400m plus but if I shoot a sambar and it gets full penetration I might just use them as an all rounder. I’m thinking I’ll end up getting some woodleighs for my scrub load but get my leupold CDS set up for the ABLR’s for if I ever want to shoot long. All the 5 deer I’ve shot in the last year have been with 130gr woodleighs from my .270 and couldn’t ask for any better performance. Just want to have a bullet I can trust at 400m if I need to take the shot, I’m scared a woodleigh might pin hole and not expand enough

Steve Smith. Sounds like a plan👍. Another thing to keep in mind is availability of the projectiles you choose. One reason I stick to Hornady

Thanks mate. I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Too good of a knife for Leigh. He won't want to put it down for too long or it will be on my hip very quickly. Really great job on that knife Trevor. The knife not only looks the part but was very nice to use. Top job and something you should be proud of.

Another well done video guys, Thanks for this. It's a pity that we couldn't see the shot, but the result was clear enough. I'm reminded of a buddy of mine, many years ago, when he took his 'new' girl friend into the fog and missed !! ( Oh , that's a weak one.)

the hornady eld-x uses the jacket off the sst, and is quite tough, its about 1.0mm thick, and the eldx has a bigger hollowpoint under the plastic tip, which promotes rapid expansion. It has worked wonders for me down to 1800 fps. I probably will not change to another bullet soon. If I chose to hunt further my choice would be the eldm but that bullet cant be used on a close range shot like the eldx.
@BoltActionProductions7 жыл бұрын
I am not so sure it has the same jacket as the 162gr ELDX runs a lot faster with the same powder charge when I compared the same load behind the SST in the same weight. The bearing surface is very similar as well between the two. We will see in time when I use the ELDX at longer ranges
@tedbear24787 жыл бұрын
Bolt-Action Productions i ground them appart, and measured them. its absolutly the same thickness. maybe seating debth was different, ans so pressure.
@BoltActionProductions7 жыл бұрын
Are you sure the jacket material is the same between the two?
@tedbear24787 жыл бұрын
Bolt-Action Productions well I am no metalurgist, but I could test the hardness off the two tomorrow when I am back at work, and let you know, if the hardness is the same the material should be the same. But to my knowledge, all jackets from hornady are made from 95/5 copper/zink alloy. If I could shoot you a mail or so I have pictures off the two jackets.
@BoltActionProductions7 жыл бұрын
Why not contact Hornady and ask them if the jacket material is the same if you are interested. Far simpler. I was of the understanding that the jacket was different and so was the bonding process and tip material. Straight to the horses mouth might be the go

Are you boys vaccinated for Q fever?
@BoltActionProductions7 жыл бұрын
No and probably 99% of farmers I know wouldn't be either. Why do you ask?
@rumpig6969697 жыл бұрын
I'm in southeast Queensland and have been advised to be vaccinated as where i generally hunt had a out break some years ago, but some areas in NSW are still having cases popup. Mainly in sheep country.

Good point Heath, my Mrs old boy has Q fever from a dairy farm where he was working. Miso and I both got vaccinated after seeing what it’s done to him and doing a fair bit on farms. it’s a very simple process and costs around $250 and 7 days between the testing and vax. It’s similar to ross river symptoms Robbo, well worth asking your local surgery.
