Massive Beatles fan here. Not that familiar with Pomplamoose, but this is extraordinary. Love the couple of extra jazz chords in the chorus, and the bass playing is sublime. Really brought something new to a song that's really hard to cover well.

This re-imagining of a classic song is simply brilliant. Too much to mention but I must note the wonderful, etherial chords over the E ostinato on the piano. OMG

Don’t get me wrong. I was always blown away and mesmerized by the original Beatles arrangement. Their harmonies are incredible, and I’m also anchored to it because I fell asleep to it when I was a little kid. BUT, this stripped down version had me pulling out a box of tissues. It’s use of a lone vocalist (that lone singer being Natalie, with her understated style) brings up this profound kind of sadness! It’s way more powerful for me than the Beatles recording in that regard. The piano harmonies and dynamics here are still killer in this version as well though. There are way fewer elements in this version to distract the listener from the sense of loneliness that the writers probably meant to covey.

When the music is too nice, you don't pay attention to the lyrics. This is how Georges Brassens explained he was making the music nice enough to be pleasant, but not too much, to avoid "drowning" the lyrics. Your dramatically pure rendition brings the words to the surface, and this is how I realise how sad the story is, while the Beatles original version gives the impression of a "second degree" sarcastic song. Hats off 👍😀😊 A Frenchie.

I come back to listen to this again and again. The combination of Natalie's voice and her bass playing just makes it. It is such a sad song, and her voice just captures the hopelessness in the words.
