I would judge this discussion an abject failure. My suggestion is to redo this discussion and invite someone who actually understands the constitutionally established process and why neither the electoral college or the popular vote meets those requirements. I’ll volunteer, just send me an invitation!

@ I gave the short version, didn’t you understand? The electors make the list, the States make the choice! The electors identify and vet all the candidates that the States must consider in Congress to determine their choice by vote, 1 vote per State, and a majority of All the States is necessary to the choice. If you review Article 2 Section 1 and the 12th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States you will find my assessment is correct. No one can “run” for president in the United States and the presidency cannot be won!

Wrong comparison! The electoral college is not a constitutionally established process, it’s a bastardization of the Constitutionally established process. The popular vote will not comply with the constitutionally established process either! The reasons are plenty, first how do you form the ballot, which is the most important characteristic, because the constitutionally established process is not competitive, there are no self declared candidates, no party nominations, and no race to win or lose. What you need to consider is, what is the role of the electors in the electoral process? How many candidates are required to be considered? What are the requirements for a quorum to operate as a legislative assembly? What are the majority consensus requirements for election based upon the votes of the electors? What is the majority consensus requirement when no person receives a majority of All of the Electors? And what is the overall majority consensus which must be achieved to choose the President. Neither process in this discussion satisfies the requirements established by Article 2 Section 1 and the 12th amendment of the Constitution of the United States, so this discussion is futile as it is based upon a fallacy! Just so I’m clear, the constitutionally established process is “Consensus Choice” which is a two-phase process where one assembly, the electors, identify and vet all the candidates that a second assembly, the States in Congress, “must” consider to determine their choice by vote, 1 vote per State, and a majority of All the States is necessary to the choice. If a person is not identified and vetted by an elector, they cannot be considered by the States, and not only do they have to be on the aggregate ranked list of electors choices, they must be in the top 5 based upon Article 2 Section 1, or the top 3 of the aggregate list for President or the top 2 on the aggregate list for Vice President based upon the 12th Amendment, just to be on the ballot to be considered by the States in Congress to determine the choice by vote, 1 vote per State, and a majority of All the States is necessary to the choice. The important consideration is that since the States are assembled as a democracy in Congress, every State has a right, and is entitled, to have a number of their own citizens considered by all the States in Congress to determine the choice. How many of their own citizens is each State entitled to have considered and why? When are we going to have the discussion of that comparison?
