These people have no idea what they are talking about. Regulations must be put in place where profits must be put into funds to create more jobs by starting new factories where we can turn the raw materials into finished products and sell them to other countries. Mines must stay private but regulated to a point where profits must come back into the SA government and put into the funds to create jobs and invest in more factories in SA. We must become a leader in mining globally so we can dominate the price.

We are still poor because we are not the ones conducting the discovery of minerals. Total energy has just discovered an Oil rig in western cape, but because it was not discovered by a south African company, South Africa only hold 25% shares to that discovery. In Bushbuckridge, Afrimat has just discovered a mine for aggregate stone in a rural area of Agincourt. Again, this discovery was not done by locals so they can not claim ownership of that discovery. There are still many mineral undiscovered in many parts of our continent, but until we are the ones driving those discoveries, we will remain marginalized in the profit share.

The ANC spokesman said Poverty , Unemployment and In-Equality is a result of Colonialism and Apartheid- he forgot to mentioned and also the result of 30 years of ANC goverance , corruption, incompetency, cadre deployment etc. If there was never colonialism and apartheid in SA ( meaning that no white man has ever set foot in SA up fo the present time ). Would SA have been a develop country on par with Japan , Europe, the USA iin terms of medical science , engineering, technology etc. ? Biulding our own areoplanes, motor vechicles running our own mines ? If we look at history virtually every nation on earth was once colonized. Even the mighty USA once colinized by England. China and Korea was colinized by Japan. Turkey ( the Ottoman Empire ) colinized the whole of the Middle East and parts of Europe. The government dont know how to run a corporation- look what they did with Eskom, Transnet , Denel , the Post Office . The only reason Telkom is still surviving is because the government ( who owns 40% of Telkom ) has put in in private hands to run it. Government can own 49% of the mines but let it be run by private companies.

Do you know Total Energy has just discovered an Oil rig in western cap sea side, but South Africa only has 25% shares to that discovery because it was conducted by a French company(Total Energies). They do have mining rights President Ramaphosa owns a mine. He was a mine owner before he became president. The problem in SA is not mining rights it is ANC corruption. Every single endeavor to better the life of people in this country, from local government to the president's office is rife with CORRUPTION, tax money that should be invested to better the life of the people are being STOLEN by government officials, that is corruption. No country burdened by corruption can grow. A conference on mining rights is not necessary, what we need is to shine a flashlight on GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION.

The state is crippled by corruption and racially inclined policies that benefit a few(BEE/BBBEE) so nationalising mines isn't the solution. Build state capacity 1st,by appointing competent people in key positions such as Public enterprises, mineral resources and energy. Create a conducive environment for business to thrive. Allow for public&private partnerships where everyone will benefit

Do not forget that discoveries cost millions, if not billions, and sometimes they do not find what they are looking for after spending so much. The risk taker is always the big taker. @vona5251 I am an American Pipeline Inspector of 25+ year's & like I said, millions & billions were paid to whom by the foreign risk takers that earned those rights to your homelands minerals by paying off corrupt government officials like has always been the way to step around the red tape of including the actual owners of the land, unless corrupt officials made their own deals to buy the land after securing the contracts, LOL》+++《I am in charge of making sure our cross country pipelines are constructed specifically as the specifications are designed by the engineers, as safely & environmentally friendly as possible》!《

Every time a DA speaker speaks on this show, I'm reminded why I should never vote for them. They always seem disconnected with the reality of disadvantaged South Africans or South Africa. They care more about serving the interests of privileged communities (mostly white) than those of less privileged communities. If we honestly want this country to prosper we must focus on developing poor communities (mostly black & coloureds) to reduce challenges such as crime & state dependency.
