I run SRF. Has big capacity storage trunk in the " fuel tank" unlock with key. Zero acknowledged the "finish and fit" of the trunk lid and replaced all free of charge. Also for £2000 more you get double charge speed, heated grips, bar ends on premium version. SRF good performance / price ratio in EV bike world

I've test ridden both bikes and rode them under a variety of conditions. Both bikes are great, but I have to say the Harley was more fun. I can't put my finger on it, but it just felt more polished and smoother to ride overall. Spec sheets won't show it, but it just feels like you are riding on, well, an electric Harley Davison.

Really!?! Really!?! De Gustibus Non Disputandum (as the ancient Romans, ancestors of today's MV Agusta and Ducati brands' designers might have said). Check out MV (which Harley owned for about one year then returned to the Castigliones for payment of one Euro). MV Agusta sold to a Russian and the design of any of the three-cylinder bikes is still dazzling.

@@peterczeck My advice as a collector is, buy them if you want them, not for any kind of money value retention or investment, last year I sold two of my bikes, both doubles so I still have one of each of the same, I own them about 10 years and sold them for about 40% less than I paid for them, but I definitely consider it worth it, as they were very enjoyable, and made room for a couple new ones lol... Enjoyed your review. I wish all electric vehicles would establish standards for things like range though so it has some meaning for comparisons like the electronics industry did back in the 1970's for determining wattage. The prices of these bikes are....well...steep for what you are getting. I own a fully loaded Kawasaki Concours that cost me $12K new ready to hit the road. Both these bikes are bare bones...Not good. At their prices there's not much left over to invest in bags, fairing, or other accessories. Maybe some rethinking of the product line to include 'less beefy' models that are just a notch or two down from these bikes that make them more competitively priced and equipped? Otherwise, I'm definitely not part of their target market.

Paul, I understand your comments, but I have to say, neither bike is meant for cruising on the freeway on long trips. This is a city bike for commuters or anyone that wants an around-town bike that is very fast. I can ride for 3+ hours on my Livewire in city traffic. Yes, you still need another bike for long trips. I'm lucky to have both. Everything he says in the video is true, however, the Livewire is fast, well built, and will put a smile on your face if you use it for what it's for.

Sub 4 seconds 0-60mph is no joke on any sportbike. The computer enhanced traction control with all that torque is super safe not ever to be considered idiot proof! You can easily shed traction with either bike. The kevlar drivebelt takes a serious beating and keeps on driving these torque monsters. The Harley fit n finish is amazing, but $10K more seems like their trying to recover R&D money a a quicker rate.
@THEREALZENFORCE
@THEREALZENFORCE 3 жыл бұрын
Do you live in the 1970s with your sub 4 sec "fast" sports bikes and in 2015 for your computer enhanced traction. For over 20 years sports bikes are below 3 seconds 0-60mph (the 2005 Suzuki GSXR-1000R does it in 2.35 seconds). In 2021 the top sports bikes all go from 2.3 to 2.7 seconds 0-60 mph. Traction control is old tech in top Ducatis, and in 2021 even entry bikes like the 2021 Triumph Trident 660 (8k) have all the tech of the Livewire, also 10k Yamaha MT-09, 10k Aprilia Tuono 660, etc with multi level traction control, six axis IMU, cornering ABS, TFT screens, quickshifter, etc. A 10K MT-09 is faster fro 0-60mph, better top speed, better handling, more reliable than 30k Livewire. And i do not understand why Harley does not take the Livewire frame and put a 900cc watercooled V-Twin in it and sell it for 12k.

I was checking out the Zero motorcycles 2 years ago, I even considered buying one! So I went to a dealer to see it, test it in person. I was amazed how poor they appear for the price tag! A 15K Euro price tag for a big pile of cheap parts that look quite flimsy! Then there were some Honda motorcycles at the same dealer, even the lower power line Hondas (like CB 500 X and CBR 650) offered more quality by the looks and parts than the Zero, and they cost only half of the price! Ridiculous! (Also, the range is ridiculously short, but that fits the range of their competition as well!)

Both are great bikes, but the SRF (cheaper, lighter, storage compartment, Anti-Theft alerts) wins for me. The Livewire does look more polished, but the advantages do not justify the price difference. The same goes for the electric cars, the Jaguar I-pace looks more polished than the Tesla Model Y, but I can get a Model Y for 60K as opposed to 80K+ for the I-Pace.

As an FXE owner, I have to agree that these smaller bikes are a blast. I do a lot of Paris city riding and it's perfect in that setting. I tried an SR/S and it just didn't feel as exciting and the steering was heavier, as would be expected with the 100kg extra weight. I'd like to try the Del Mar just to see what their take is but over 200kg seems unecessary in a European setting!

@@BenjaminSodos Sadly yeah. I don't see how they even pack 80mi range and an 80mph top speed in an ebike that is $5,000 USD. That's WAY too cheap. So unless they figured out the magic equation that no other ebike makers have, they must be using really cheap parts or just straight out lying on the spec sheet.

LW beautiful bike. I'd LOVE to have one, but there aren't many "er"s to the LW compared to the Zero. The only "er" the Harley has is it's nicER. It IS nicer, no doubt. It seems you'd get a Harley LW just to say you have a Harley E bike. Yeah, knock the price down 6 to 8k and yeah, less focus would be placed on the lack of "er"s. Yes, the other E manufacturers have been successful starting off with higher end vehicles because they offer something more than just plug-in capabilities. The main thing is acceleration. The Harley is AWESOME. I'd love to have one, but dang, it is nicER but it's also expensivER.

For a bike that only goes 70 miles (at highway speeds), the Zero is way over priced. And of course spending THIRTY THOUSAND for a bike that only goes 70 miles, well that's just stupid. I think Harley shot themselves in the foot... if I buy the electric version, the Zero would check all the boxes... Harleys were never price cautious and other comparable motorcycles always 10k cheaper with similar or above options and performance .. no wonder Harley is in trouble... Do I have those facts all Correct, folks? I have listened to this video Twice; perhaps I should have taken notes.

Battery warranties on both bikes is 5 years unlimited miles. Livewire is over 1/2 second faster to 60, 3.02 to 3.65 for the zero. Cycle world and don canet who has a ton of road racing experience said the livewire is the superior handling bike and doesn’t mention it was top heavy. Zero has an extended battery pack of 3.6 kw but it’s not ready yet to my knowledge. As a zero owner I can tell you that they chose too narrow a carbon belt for the sr/f and many have broken their belts already. A new one is a few hundred and a pain in the ass to change. Harley did miss the boat with not having level two charging; that was a stupid move. The Harley is crazy expensive but for the price you get a high quality, sorted bike with a huge dealer network. Zero has done amazing for what they are as a small volume manufacturer.

Three, total, had rights from Harley to Sell Livewires. If any of the others has Level 1, 2 or three chargers, it was news to the service department at each of the seven dealers I phoned in February. Perhaps the MoCo has bullied/required all dealers to install/set up Level 3 chargers. I shall check later today or Wednesday.

@@THEREALZENFORCE You are mistaken. Stats on paper aren't stats in actual use so the stats of range and speed for the energica aren't quite what they say. That's the first part. Second, where are you getting twice the charging speed? So they can charge in less than 30 minutes? No way. I like Energica, but right now, they look too much like a traditional sport bike for me, and I am not into that look. They are a lot of plastic, and I am not into that either. I am also wanting to be close to a place I can get repairs done or that will tow me in if it stops working.

Or spend 10k than the LiveWire, *and* get better fit and finish than the Zero with an Enérgica.. *and* get nearly twice the range.. *and* more performance.. *and* more charging options. Just sayin’.. Great video comparing similar electric motorcycles, and I understand that comparing either to a Ribelle would’ve been an easy win for the Italian. That’s not to say that the SR/F & LW aren’t nice bikes.. they are, but neither outperform an Eva, Ego, or SS9 on value, performance, or features.

I doubt the lease payments for the Harley are 50% more then this 0. I almost bought on let-go the first 100 mile per hour 100 mile range motorcycle. That's the one that the trucking company bought the IP for the batteries for. The trucking company competing with Tesla. So I know what you mean about not being able to afford something the seller said they have been parked too long but had not been used much. That was a $20,000 motorcycle and they did not make money at that price. It was a good deal at $1,000 but too far away and I did let them know that I was very sorry having made a lowball offer that was accepted and not being able to consummate the deal in time. The lease payment is of course cheaper than an electric BMW car almost any electric car what cost more to operate come apart when you consider parking and how much longer it takes to get some place. Harley is a larger company, likely more secure oh, so the warranty I assume means more. You failed to mention that if you buy it locally you can charge at the place you bought it? I think that's a big deal if you need the rapid recovery. The zeros eccentric DC charging that slower than level 2 must be corrected in the new motorcycle you mention? I mean it makes no sense whatsoever. Level one is not even 3000 Watts right? Charging a Harley in 40 minutes creates a significant dependency on the warranty and I have to wonder if it's the same as electric cars, the mandatory eight years? It should be. I know that some of those Southern California ebike companies claim a battery warranty but they only help you out if your battery has stopped working completely. as a reward for anybody who has read this entire comment on eBay right now is a lithium titanate one kilowatt hour battery e-bike pack with charger for 499? That's $8,000 equivalent and they could charge far faster than for 40 minutes, last much longer, and produce a million Watts instead of barely or not even 100,000

I must say i dont understand why the information you give on these bikes is so limited. If you actually have the equipment necessary to perform and measure 0-60mph tests, you have the same equipment to perform brake tests, 1/4 mile runs, 30-60, 30-90 acceleration runs... You heavily imply that the brakes on the Livewire are superior but give no evidence that they are other than brand reputation (not disagreeing with you, just stating facts). Do either of these manufacturers not allow you to do performance measurements? Is this why we get so little info in head to head reviews?

I think it's a fair comparison overall, but when you list out specs in the beginning it's a bit misleading to not include price, it's essentially a spec. And when you know the zero costs TEN THOUSAND less that makes a HUGE difference when comparing specs. They're not even in the same category as you basically said at the end; for all intents and purposes, the Livewire is a rip-off.
@craiglamar8929
@craiglamar8929 4 жыл бұрын
I'd disagree. The Livewire is a better bike if you can afford it. It's faster, better fit and finish and more comfortable. I know it is subjective, but after riding both bikes, it wasn't even close how much better the Livewire felt.
@MikeMPharmaCyclist
@MikeMPharmaCyclist 4 жыл бұрын
@@craiglamar8929 it's fine to disagree and get into the nuances throughout the video, but a difference in price that substantial needs to be noted up front. In what world of motorcycle shopping is a 10k price difference not something that needs to be mentioned immediately? You could literally buy a second motorcycle, and not a bad one, with the price difference. If it was 500 dollars or even 1k okay, similar class comparisons. But the Harley is priced in an entirely different tier and frankly I think it's sad that for FIFTY PERCENT more, the only advantages to note are subjective based on feel and fit and finish, not even mentioning you get a bike that can't use the relatively ubiquitous level 2 charging standard.. insulting to the consumer.
@MikeMPharmaCyclist
@MikeMPharmaCyclist 4 жыл бұрын
@@craiglamar8929 I guess I think of it like car shopping... Would you compare a 40k decked out Toyota to a 60k (ie 50 percent more) Lexus and be happy with relatively minor differences between the two and even some disadvantages for the Lexus? I find it highly doubtful.

@@MikeMPharmaCyclist There are several reviews out now saying the same thing. The Livewire has better quality, better performance, liquid cooling, DC Level 3 charging. Those are all real benefits. I live in a metro area with lots of Level 3 charging stations so, as one youtube video review said you will spend less time waiting for the bike to recharge and more time out riding with the Livewire.
@MikeMPharmaCyclist
@MikeMPharmaCyclist 4 жыл бұрын
@@craiglamar8929 I'm not even saying it doesn't have some advantages, but I am saying for 50 percent more cost it's not even comparable. And the level 3 charging is great in some areas sure, but level 2 is far more common and it's only about 30 to 45 mins slower than level 3 from what I've seen... seems like a huge risk on Harley's part. Again, is the Livewire decent? Sure... Is it worth FIFTY PERCENT MORE? my humble opinion is hell no, but I've never been much of a Harley fan as long as I've been a rider... the prices have always been a joke for what you get.

NOT a city bike at all. SR-F is equivalent of a 1000cc sportbike. Only the range, portliness of these bikes, and the price let them down, and most wouldn't notice the weight until you try to lift it. If you have a 40-70 mile commute and can use this every day including freeway, charge it with renewable energy, you have great alternative for whatever other bike you might choose to ride with. If you're a weekend-only rider, there's not much point in these except for limited distance rides.

karlInSanDiego as a zero owner as well as an owner of a zx10 I can tell you it’s not the equivalent of a 1000cc sportbike. It’s pretty fast but dies fast past 80mph. The zx10 eats it for lunch. However, it is an amazing bike. The app is bullshit though; it connects when it wants to, which isn’t often.

Having ridden both heres my take aways and a few truths... Both bikes pull enough to make anyone grin and giggle like an idiot. Both bikes come up short on range. Let's be honest they can easily do another 30-40% distance with what they got so why the sub 200 mile range limits? Yeah the zero has the option for an additional battery pack but for another couple grand and added weight... Both are still stupid early to the game in terms of EVs and their place in our economic times and cultural blocks(try riding either in Texas or alberta Canada. The shit you will take from the wilfully ignorant shit heads is astounding.) The live wire is the first attempt by harley and they got 4 more on the books and in the works. Zero has been in the game for a while and by default must keep planning for the next gen, bigger faster longer range etc etc, so is it worth getting one now when, not if, when a better one is coming in the next year or 2? Both are good for what they are, no question. But they ain't there yet
