So I tried this method with a 3D-pprinted Ego Battery mount that connected to the battery. I had the 7ah battery on the mount and the two wires accidentally touched. There was a big spark, and then the battery no longer functioned. Luckily it was under warranty and I was able to get a replacement. But as everyone knows, those EGO batteries are not cheap. Best I can imagine is the BMS blew on the battery. Just a warning that this can happen.

Ego batteries are 14s packs (14 cells wired in series). Meaning in the ebike world they are considered 52v ebike battery. They are 4v different from a 48v battery (13s). Each lithium 18650 cells are capable of 4.2v when fully charged. 48v ebike motors and controllers can accept a wide variety of voltages. I build and repair ebikes and etrikes. I’ve used these Ego batteries for different projects. They are well made and provide enough amperage to power ebikes. If someone wanted to power ego power tools with 52v ebike batteries, it can be done as well, as long as the ebike battery BMS can handle the amperages the tool needs.

@rob-toolsandtech25212 жыл бұрын
Great video, Andrew. Only problem is I’m disappointed that “my idea” that I had earlier today was not really my idea at all, because now I remember seeing this awesome video before. Oh well, as the Bare Naked Ladies said, “it’s all been done”. lol. I was thinking of trying this with 3 Milwaukee M18’s or 3 Dewalt 20v batteries in series. So, if I’m doing the math correctly, the max and nominal voltages would be about 4 volts higher than the ego. I’m wondering if this motor or another one would handle that extra voltage, or if I’d have to get a DC to DC converter to step down the voltage slightly. Keep up the great content!
@therealscoobydoo11 ай бұрын

@@jonathanbrunache3848 No problems using lipo as long as you don't let the cells drop below nominal voltage - about 3v per cell. The EGO battery in this setup does not protect against that. But yes Lipos are safe and good for this application, just buy one made for bikes
