To be honest, my bf mainly listened to Electric Callboy and I was like you at first, I liked some songs, but some confused the hell out of me I bought tickets for their concert for my bf as a birthday present. We went 2 months ago and it was the best concert I've ever been on. Since then I fell into a full on rabbit hole and became a bigger fan than my bf I can't wait for you to check out more! I think you should of course listen to their staples like "Pump It", "We got the Moves", "Tekkno Train" etc. But I really like their cover of "Everytime we Touch" and the video will crack you up, I promise!

A wee bit more context now that you've had the initial surprise. They are a German band who have been on the go for around 12 years or so (I believe). Prior to this song, they had a different lead singer, who wanted to do his 'own thing', so they brought in a new singer (Niko Sallach - the blonde wigged guy) to compliment Kevin Ratajczak's (long dark wig) and this was the video that announced Niko's inclusion to the world. Previously they were a bit more serious (and they do still have a few serious songs) but this video went viral and they picked up a lot of new fans (including me) from that. "We Got The Moves" followed - that is well worth a watch/listen too (and you'll have it stuck in your head for ages too!), and a few more songs in a similar sort of comedic but catchy vein, without being too 'samey'. Their album "Tekkno Train" is a really fun album full of catchy songs that will have you moving and smiling. I introduced a pal to the band and she's seen them live twice already and is a massive fan of them. Their live shows are one big party. They are really good musicians and they disprove the "Germans have no sense of humo(u)r "cliche. Anything released since Hypa Hypa is worth a watch/listen (and there are a few older tracks too - pre-Nico). So glad you enjoyed it. P.S. My other recommendations aren't quite as 'different' as Electric Callboy. 😃

Eskimo -- I mean -- Electric Callboy is definitely a band that does not take themselves too seriously, and it is glorious. I especially enjoy "We Got The Moves". Since you mentioned that you want suggestions for things that are different, I'll suggest a few you may have not of heard of before. Maytree -- A-Capella group. Best known for their shorts, such as "Squid Game", they have also released a few full songs. For shorts other than "Squid Game", I suggest "Minecraft OST", "Game of Thrones theme", "Baba Yetu", "Valorant Champions 2022 Anthem", and any of their Sound Effects shorts. For full length songs, I'd go with "Carol of the Bells" (Love this version), and "Colors of the Wind" (which is a collaboration with a famous Korean folk singer). Second group to suggest is: OTYKEN. They are a native Siberian group which do a tribal mixed with modern type of music. My favorite song of theirs is "Phenomenon", but they have so many others to enjoy. Next, I'll give you Gunship. They have a retro 80's synth sound. There are so many good songs it is difficult to decide. I'll pick three of the top of my head -- "Fly For Your Life", "Ghost", and "When You Grow Up Your Heart Dies". I'll end here with Poets of the Fall (Also known as Old Gods of Asgard from Alan Wake II and previous video games). They have never released a bad song -- period. The song that got me started on them is "Carnival of Rust", which would be a good starting point, but they've been around forever and have so much incredible music. I ended up buying all of their albums.

EC was founded in 2010 in Germany as Metalcore band with mixed success. 2020 they changed their clear volcalist to Nico and create an internet hype with Hypa Hypa. It is the ultimate musical WMD of earworms that overrun the mainstream. Greetings to of you that listen, for those that did not like it, great that you gave it a try. For the others, this is a great german band. They are very good musicians and their focus is on fun, with a few more serious songs. Unfortunately nobody told them that you should not mix music styles in that way, and that color and metal are opposites. We just have to live with it..... I do that with a big smile. They have great socisl media to their songs and concerts, are generally gnice people and collaborates with many other bands and artists (check out the 7 versions with other bands of Hypa Hypa...... , 7 different genres)

The aesthetics of the video are impossible to really understand for people who know nothing about Germany in the 90s. Back in the late 80s and early 90s the German coal and steel industries went belly up and hundreds of thousands of working class dudes who had thought they would be working in those industries like their fathers and grandfathers had, found themselves without much perspective. That kind of created a whole generation of "peaked in high school"-type dudes who couldn't let go of their youth in the 80s and were still running around like that (mullets, handlebar mustaches aso.) till way into the 90s, long after that had stopped being fashionable. So in the 90s (when the guys in that band were kids) you had all those 30 to 40 year old, beer guzzling working class blokes hanging around techno rave parties and dance clubs, looking like time travelers from the 80s and trying to pick up chicks half their age. That is what this song and the video are making fun of and that is why it makes sense that the video mixes tropes from the 80s and 90s (Boy Band music, techno, aso.) and why the dudes look like from the 80s while the chick looks like a 90s raver girl. Ah and one other piece of explanation: The dancing people at the end of the video are a bunch of bigger German KZbinrs who are friends with the band.
