I love his reactions. I was educated in classical music during a big part of my life, and he definitely looks like your normal music teacher, you show them some new piece of music, and their brains automatically start finding the scale or tune, and then after the first few seconds they start listening to the music😅😅

I saw them in Denver, not loudest, biggest, or most intense concert I have been to... but easily the most fun!! Lots of people dressed in 1980's workout gear and bowlcut wigs. Yes, mix between moshing/ jumping, dancing in crowd all mixed just like their songs. About 3 costume changes for band as well. Nico does more deep and screaming to support Kevin in live show, are heavier live IMO. Ending with 'We Got The Moves' was great, had everyone walking out with a smile on their face!!

I came here for the Hypa Hypa, but golly that 1979 arrangement at the start. I also play the piano (not as well as Judson), so Ive said this before, and Ill likely say it again: I love Judson's choices in arrangement and dynamics with that cover. Such an emotive touch at the keys! Beautiful.

If you loved the 80's sound, id definitely recommend Hanz Lazer Alien Slam, they're definitely a bit heavier, but it is so painfully 80's, its great. their genre, they described as 'action metal.'

The aesthetics of the video are impossible to really understand for people who know nothing about Germany in the 90s. Back in the late 80s and early 90s the German coal and steel industries went belly up and hundreds of thousands of working class dudes who had thought they would be working in those industries like their fathers and grandfathers had, found themselves without much perspective. That kind of created a whole generation of "peaked in high school"-type dudes who couldn't let go of their youth in the 80s and were still running around like that (mullets, handlebar mustaches aso.) till way into the 90s, long after that had stopped being fashionable. So in the 90s (when the guys in that band were kids) you had all those 30 to 40 year old, beer guzzling working class blokes hanging around techno rave parties and dance clubs, looking like time travelers from the 80s and trying to pick up chicks half their age. That is what this song and the video are making fun of and that is why it makes sense that the video mixes tropes from the 80s and 90s (Boy Band music, techno, aso.) and why the dudes look like from the 80s while the chick looks like a 90s raver girl. Ah and one other piece of explanation: The dancing people at the end of the video are a bunch of bigger German KZbinrs who are friends with the band.

Metallicas For Whom The Bell Tolls is, afaik, actually based on Hemingways. the Hypa Hypa in this song is, as are some of the synth elements, reference/homage to some of the tracks by Scooter (one of which is Hyper Hyper). This song also introduced their then new song Nico Sallach, who does the clean vocals (afaik, they both do both, but with the cleans, Nico is in the forefront, and for harsh ones, his voice is in the background. that what they said in an interview with Julia Nilon here on YT, iirc)

Knorkator are freakin' great, but I think all their lyrics are in German? Not quite sure. Anyway, you should try to find a video with English subtitles. Also: Electric Callboy's whole thing is even funnier when you know where in Germany they're from. They're from the Ruhrgebiet and if I had to compare it to places in the US I'd say it's a mix between the Bronx and rural Kentucky. A densely populated, relatively poor, ex-coal-mining region that has a very unique appeal :D It's ugly as f*ck (well, nowadays it's kinda okay) but the people are awesome. Honest and direct. And there's a sense of comradery there that I have never felt anywhere else in Germany. Fun anecdote: I'm from there and I met some of the Electric Callboy members at parties. We weren't friends or anything, we were just part of the same crowds. At some occasion I told them they should change their name, cause it's a sh!tty name, they used to be called Eskimo Callboy. As you can see, they changed the name. Only took them 12 years or so, ha!

Depends on your perspective, I guess. As a metalhead who's into, well, METAL, sure... this isn't what we want. But as a musician I can see why these guys are doing what they're doing. Producing that stuff must be a ton of fun. (I used to have an electronic music project and I gotta say it was more fun than all my metal projects) I'm happy for them that they get to do something fun while making a living.
