I’m a tech, so the element- the top is your thermal cut off. It serves as a safety net. The high limit thermostat monitors the temperature of the element. If the high limit stays close, the thermal cut off will trip . The closest thing to a thermistor on that is the thermal fuse. Vent restriction, bad blower wheel broken belt grounded element and of course the actual cycling thermostat

Awesome timing. I got home from work today and thought I was going to have to start researching the hi-limit thermostat to figure out how to connect it...but I saw you uploaded this! This video seems very thorough and I think you answered just about all of my questions. I will give it a go tonight or tomorrow. I actually replaced it about 10 years ago as well, and I vaguely recall the wiring for that part gave me some problems back then too. I should have taken notes, but I didn't. I will this time!!

Okay...so...on the high limit thermostat I don't have an orange 'auto sensing' wire. I guess I just connect the thermostat as shown and then connect the two red wires and call it a day? The previous thermostat was like you described...it just had two connectors and then I had a jumper wire that was used to connect the HL thermostat to the white heating element connection right below it. I'm guessing the new type of high limit thermostat shown there with the long 'arm' probably makes that unnecessary?

@@joshcobb4100 Thanks again for your channel and for the extra help. It turns out this time around it was my heating element, but I took LOTS of notes from this video so in 10 or so years when the dryer stops heating again, it will be a piece of cake to fix...assuming they still make the parts for it!!

If you click on my main channel mid-level you will see playlists. Sometimes you have to scroll over to see them but normally they're in a category after videos

My replacement high limit has 2 extra connectors on it and says 155 degrees. Is this the correct?
