@@Coach.Lewi.1979 I forget which wire is 12 volts switched with the key. I believe the wiring diagram is available on this time cutter free to download. @@Coach.Lewi.1979 Most mowers have a fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor that energizes when you turn the key on. That's the easiest place to get continuous 12 volts with key on.

Nice job Rudy. I figured you were going to make a video. I did one little thing different. I connected the Pump hot wire to The Fuel Solenoid wire so the pump shuts off when I shut off the ignition. I can guarantee I would miss shutting off the pump. (like my shop air compressor.) :O) I also put a toggle switch just so I could shut off the pump if for some reason I needed to, and of course the inline fuse. Them pumps only draw about 4or5 amps. I am curious how long the elec. pump will last. I replaced the vacuum pump every year. Even the OEM. I rather buy an electric pump every year. they are half the price of the vacuum pump. I do like the elec. much better. John

HI John! I wanted to give you a shout out in the video, but I couldn't remember which video we initially were collaborating on..🙂. I thought about connecting it with the switch, but wasn't sure of the amp draw and didn't want to damage the ignition switch or go through any under-rated wires. We've (my bother and I) had a few old hot rods with electric pumps and always had a switch under the dash, so I did it this way to remind me of that!.. 😂. Thanks again for the idea... I don't know how long the motor will last, I probably only use the mower about 8 hours a year so we'll see.. Sitting might be worse for it than running it.

@@JLPicard440 Thanks Rudy my brother was my best friend. He was 69 when he passed 8 years ago.. I am 86 as we speak. I hate it when things don't work. I think I found the culprit though. I removed the battery and checked out the mess of wires and found the wire to the Amp meter was pulled out of the wire connector. I'm heading out there now to reassemble and check it out. Arrrgh. Did you put an inline fuse with the pump? If so, that could be the culprit. If the fuse is good, I would connect power directly to the pump and see if it runs. If not, maybe it went bad. Mine is actually still working and I just used it the other day. No leaks or problems.

I think this will help me with my old Ez-Go Golf Cart vac fuel pump. But why not wire it to the ignition circuit? Ignition on, fuel pump on. That way you don't forget to turn it off. I think there might be a safety issue wired directly to the battery.

It's possible, but I like to shut off the fuel pump and then let the engine run for a while to drain some fuel out of the carb. Just a quirk that I have. I think one will hear the fuel pump running if they do forget. But there's no reason that you can't hook it to the ignition switch. Just make sure and get a very low pressure pump.

Best power source for your fuel pump. Is the line that gives power to the carburetor solenoid if you have one most tractors have a solenoid on the carburetor these days. 12 volts and it operates when the key is on and the tractor running and when switches off power is automatically off to fuel pump. Just a share

@michaellowe3665

@antagonizerr cars use a return line because it's a better way to maintain pressure accurately. The regulator keeps the rail pressure constant while the pump can flow constantly. Without a return line on a car, all the fuel in the entire supply line would have to nearly stop when you let off the throttle, then suddenly flow at full capacity if you step on the throttle. The pump can't suddenly move all that fuel instantly. With a return line, the pump flows the same amount of fuel at a constant rate, and the only thing that changes when you step on the gas is that less fuel goes back to the tank. I looked into these little pumps since then and actually installed one. They are self-regulating because they have a diaphragm that limits how much pressure they make. They are low pressure. The fuel bowl on the carburetor actually regulates what goes in the engine, and the fuel line is short, so you don't have over-pressure and starvation problems. The one I installed works great. No return is needed.

HI, there's nothing wrong with that. Although I have discovered when I park the mower I like to shut off the pump and let it run for about 30 seconds to drain some of the fuel out of the carburetor. Not really necessary unless parking for the winter, then it makes it easy to shut off the pump and let the engine run until it quits... Can't do that if it's wired to the key switch.. Ummmm, why have two fuel filters? If that mower is ever sold, the new owner might not realize it has two, and thus only change the obvious filter while neglecting the not so obvious filter, allowing it to become clogged up over time. Also, with way you wired it up, it will run the battery down if you accidentally leave the pump on, right? Otherwise, good job with the conversion to an electric fuel pump.
@JLPicard440
@JLPicard440 8 ай бұрын
HI, yes I could have put the pump on the key switch so it turns off with that. For me personally I like to shut off the switch and let the motor run for a little while so the carb doesn't stay full. For winterizing it's nice to just let the motor run until it quits to get the fuel out of the carb. IF it's hooked to the key switch you can't do that. But either way is fine. Yes it will run the battery down! It is loud enough where it would be hard to miss even if you forget you'll hear it running... I don't remember installing 2 filters? I'd have to look at it and see what I did. You're right, 1 would be better.
