Great stuff Andrew, with some very diplomatic German and West Midlands comments on your preliminary spaghetti! My previous truck's inherited cabin build with initially very intermittent bullet fuses inspired by Lucas, Prince of Darkness pushed me to rewire with a superb Blue Sea Systems DC marine circuit breaker panel. Here the Sprinter van's wheelarch area and use of the grey cable management trunking show us the way to aim next time, with Traffolyte labels of course!

Was I the only one shouting at the screen put the DC hub the other end of the board as the connectors would line up better either that or you need a right and left hand version of the pcb. One suggestion though as a licenced radio amuture I would try and keep that GME radio as far away from the rest of the wiring as possible or put a shield over it and at the very least ferrite beads over the cables, I have seen strange things happen when RF leaks into vehicle wiring looms sometimes not much more than the occasional warning light coming on at random times to airbags going off.
@landc8442
@landc8442 4 жыл бұрын
The DC hub looks like a bad idea to me. Circuit boards that have fuses on them just does not look durable. I've seen too many bad connections because of cracked solder joints. The whole lay out is very overlander style built, which I do not prefer. It takes up too much space that could be used for other uses. I prefer to have as few items as possible in the storage and occupant areas. Even if it takes more wire length to do so. For example that air compressor does not need to be inside at all. It could be under the hood or under the flat bed.

Looks good so far Andrew. When they mentioned the rear window towards the end, would it be an idea to have a constant powered rear-view camera for with/without the camper on the back? I find it immensely helpful with my 79, where rear visibility is quite limited by the canopy, to be able to have a nice wide angle view from high up of what is behind me at all times.

The downside of a central hub is the you have bring all of the cables to it even though the connected equipment may be remote. In indusrial installations one always has a mix of central and local panels, for this reason. However it's an interesting idea.

For mechanical damage, reduced risk of accidental short circuits, dust and water protection etc, yes a basic plastic electrical box with transparent quick release cover would work well. These also often have an internal detachable baseplate you can pre-mount the components.
