I already have the one you wouldn't say the name of. I agree great for yard tools and things like Machetes and axes and budget beater knives. The rest I prefer either my KME or by hand on whetstone. Appreciate the video you did a great job on it. Hope you and your family have a great Easter. Going to be very busy here today.

Here, that worked well on a kitchen knife! I hate it when I try and sharpen those knives as I can never seem to get them to take an edge lol. Handy wee thing Paddy, thanks for this one👍👍, Phil.

Hello Paddy! I have the original worksharp and the Ken Onion model. I actually just got done using them to sharpen a coworkers kitchen knives. One thing that I have found to keep from removing excess metal is to check for the burr, and then move to the next belt and repeat until the finest belt. Then strop. Just be careful of the tip, it can ruin one quick. Hope this helps. Thanks for the vids.

Thanks for the video as just received mine and wasn't sure how to easily change belts, also usual translated manual. But whilst poking around found a movable adjuster on the motor side in line with the self locking button. The manual says adjusting button and if observe closely with belt assembly off, will see that it also moves the drive shaft for more or less tension. So at this stage recommend releasing tension from there as well, for easier belt replacement. Also at widest 30 deg angle for most room.

Paddy, I owned the smaller original and noticed some way s to improve it, so someone at the original company contacted me to test the newer model. So they sent me a new sharpener and plenty of belts to test, and I sent them my observations as to what was better and what needed help. They did not change what I told them needed to be changed. Guess i was the only picky one doing the testing...lol That roller in the front, is there for a reason and i will explain., That was something they added because I mentioned the problem that happens without a front support. I noted with using the original, smaller version, that without a front support, it was too easy to round off the point of your knives, so they added that roller bar in the front. I now have both, and still prefer the smaller one. The new one like you are using cuts too much metal. The smaller one gets my knives sharper and quicker. Also with these electric sharpeners, you really do not need to go more than a medium grit. The coarse just cuts away and goes too far. I still only use my small one for my daily work knife. My good pocket knives i use my Lansky every time. This is the first copy I have seen. The two things you need to know on these, is to not go too coarse on the belt, and to lay the knife against the guide when pulling through. I have seen many say to just run it through the middle, but you need that guide to keep both side the same angle. If that one has the spring loaded side guides, that was what i asked them to remove. Its too easy to put pressure on that side guide and it moves and then your angle has changed. You were doing fine going easy as ong as you lay that blade flat against the guide on each side. And remember to go finer with grit as this sharpener will remove too much metal. Also remember, since the belt rotates, it cuts UP on one side, and DOWN on the other. Set that knife down in the bottom of that guide, leaning it against the side guide. and across the rollers. Hope this helps some my friend.

(My personal experience): bought the better known brand (most knife reviews have shilled) earlier in the year and let’s just say when I moved house a month ago I didn’t even bother taking it with me. A stone and strop blows it out of the water (and I’m no expert n either of those two tools) and doesn’t scratch the living you know what out of your knife. What I found was they get you on the peripherals as the belts wear out fast and the machine overheats with next to no use. Plus there’s just something about using a stone and strop. Another great video, mate thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi, Paddy, have one for years, it cost a quarter of the knife sharperner. You have to settle with a concave edge when you use this. Belt wear is nothing compare to the work sharp but you get what you pay for. Hope you enjoy it. Like yourself I have other alternatives but it is good for reprofeiling. Piggy

It’s ideal for garden tools or cheap knives but like you I wouldn’t use for your best knives as it can over heat the steel and mess up the temper and also it will give you a convex edge, but that’s just me. Great demo mate 👍🙂

Good video. Do you know how to figure out the correct angle to use for a particular knife?
@blackadder19663 ай бұрын
That's not easy on this type of machine. There's a technique used for non powered sharpeners, which is using a sharpie (felt pen) to black the blades edge, then begin to sharpen. You can then see where the sharpie has been removed and from there adjust your angle. With this machine I'd just pick an angle and grind a new edge. Kitchen knives are 17-20°. A 17 will be sharper and 20 wont go blunt as quick. Google guide to knife edges etc.

Not really something I'm in the market for, but it looks like it does the job. Also, since this has a knife in the product pictures Gearbest won't ship it to me. I've given up on Gearbest fixing this at this point.

I know a lot of people swear by the WS Ken Onion version, and they're not as scary as they look. Most everyone recommends practicing on the thing before trying something you care about. You didn't mention which belts were included, I see GearBest doesn't say. I'd also be interested if the WorkSharp belts fit, as their diamond and stropping belts are a great addition.
@paddyspotatopeelers21545 жыл бұрын
I will have measured and ordered a set before review. Although I will not personally invest in the diamond ones as id only be useing this on lesser blade steels.thanks for your input as always. Atb paddy 👍☘️😊
