Lyrics:
Sailin' away on the crest of a wave
It's like magic
Rollin' and ridin' and slippin' & slidin'
It's magic
And you, and your sweet desire,
You took me, higher and higher
It's a livin' thing,
It's a terrible thing to lose
It's a given thing
What a terrible thing to lose.

I turned 11 in 1976. My favorite gift was from my grandmother. She bought me an am/fm Panasonic clock radio(so that I could fall asleep to my music and have my very own ALARM CLOCK)(what can I say, I was 11 and it was a big deal, okay?) I ran to my room and plugged it in, tuned it to my favorite rock station(WVMT in Colchester Vermont)(talk radio now) and the very first thing I heard was the violin intro to Livin Thing. I am forever and always ELO's biggest fan.

I had the Panasonic Toot-A-Loop Radio! It went everywhere with me, on my bike, hanging off my jungle gym and on my shelf at night while I listened to ELO, Queen, Elton, ABBA- all the 70s pop gold. I actually want to buy a Toot-A-Loop on EBay!

ROCK HALL OF FAME...It's more than time to induct Jeff Lynne as a solo artist like George, Ringo, Paul and John (They all were inducted as a band and solo artists). The great Jeff Lynne released his latest album in November of 2019 and was no. 1 on the UK chart. Jeff Lynne's ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA is still Touring! From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world. More than 50 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas and Stadiums. I saw them again in 2019 before the Pandemic on the North American Tour...( Best Concert of my life) All the reviews agree they are the best live Classical Rock Band still touring. Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius. ELO is in the Rock Hall of Fame. Jeff Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Song Writer award ( ASCAP ) 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. In October of 2020, Jeff Lynne has been made an officer of The Order Of The British Empire for his extraordinary contribution to music. He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison "The Traveling Wilburys". They asked Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan to join this amazing band. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, and so many others... Long live Jeff Lynne’s ELO! Please Tour in 2022! www.thetoptens.com/greatest-music-producers-all-time/

Neither I am, but I am quite distasted by the simple fact that they aren't Top 100 on the artists page in AcclaimedMusic. But no, this band is not underrated. It has the right amount of attention, it's very popular, and they deserve it.

Maybe because mediocre performers like Randy Newman and Guns N’ Roses were being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while ELO got passed over year after year after year. Finally inducted in 2017.

@DByers-ci5kr 3 жыл бұрын
@@avan5140 Yeah but since when do halls of fame matter as much as the true sound of music? (Clue: I'm not referring to the musicals with Julie Andrews or Mary Martin.) Popularity vs beauty. Well promoted or well composed. Catchy or soulful. Quantity vs quality. Expedience or thoughtfulness. Who listens to a song because it's at the top of the charts? If you do then you're listening to commercial radio or that latest promoter of artless trash, satellite radio. Listen to what YOU like. Enjoy music as a pure form of art. Listen to everything out here & decide for yourself what is good TO YOU.

Underrated? With the succes they had? One of the Beatless once said they would have evolved into something like ELO. Jeff Lynne also worked with George Harris, Roy Orbinson, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty so I wouldn’t call them underrated. Maybe their music was so special not everyone understands it or knows it but they sold millions of records and are an example for many artists.

And ..... Here we have another one. 😖 Stop it already with the very false statement. Under-rated?? 😅 Hell, NO!! What an incredibly cringe, ignorant assumption to make on an amazingly incredible band that's a very hugely world-wide very successful band. It's so ridiculous to see some very false comments that most are clearly SO embarrassing to still see, that the very uneducated people who do not even know, whatsoever, at all, how very incredible they obviously were. Educate yourself and please get the facts straight before posting false info.

Livin' Thing Electric Light Orchestra Sailin' away on the crest of a wave It's like magic Oh, rollin' and ridin' and slippin' and slidin' It's magic And you, and your sweet desire You took me higher and higher, baby It's a livin' thing It's a terrible thing to lose It's a given thing What a terrible thing to lose Making believe this is what you conceived From your worst day Moving in line then you look back in time To the first day And you, and your sweet desire Don't you do it, don't you do it You took me, oh higher and higher, baby It's a livin' thing It's a terrible thing to lose It's a given thing What a terrible thing to lose Takin' a dive 'cos you can't halt the slide Floating downstream So let her go don't start spoiling the show It's a bad dream And you, and your sweet desire You took me higher and higher, baby It's a livin' thing It's a terrible thing to lose It's a given thing What a terrible thing to lose It's a livin' thing It's a terrible thing to lose Source: LyricFind
