WOW!!! As the film editor of the only and only (to my knowledge anyway) Mr. Blue Sky video I was gobsmacked to discover it was still alive and well on the internet with over 67 million views! Couldn't have even imagined such a thing back in 1977. I always considered it one of the most fun and joyous editing gigs I ever had the great honor and privilege to have worked on. A great memory and song!

This song was taken from the "Out Of The Blue" album which was released in 1977 and by 2007 had sold more than 10 million copies.Written and produced by ELO frontman Jeff Lynne. Jeff Lynne wrote the entire album in three and a half weeks after a sudden burst of creativity while hidden away in his rented chalet in the Swiss Alps. It took a further two months to record in Munich. Side three of the original double LP consisted of the symphonic Concerto for a rainy day. In a BBC Radio interview, Lynne talked about writing "Mr. Blue Sky" after locking himself away in a Swiss chalet and attempting to write ELO's follow-up to :A New World Record. It was dark and misty for 2 weeks, and I didn't come up with a thing. Suddenly the sun shone and it was, 'Wow, look at those beautiful Alps.' I wrote Mr. Blue Sky and 13 other songs in the next 2 weeks.

Love this song! ELO had their biggest hits in the 70's-80's & mixed modern rock pop songs with classical overtones. Jeff Lynne wrote most of their songs. They had a lot of great hits such as "Roll Over Beethoven", "Showdown", "Telephone Line", "Can't Get It Out Of My Head", "Evil Woman", "Strange Magic", "Livin' Thing", "Do Ya", "Rockaria!", "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman", "Wild West Hero", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Shine A Little Love", "Confusion", "Hold On Tight", "Twilight" etc.

While it may sum up British weather, it was actually inspired by the weather in Switzerland where he had gone to work on writing and composing the next album. For the first couple weeks, it was overcast and rainy, and his writing wasn't being productive. Then halfway in his stay, the weather broke, and cleared up. At the same time, so did his writer's block, so he wrote Mr Blue Sky and 13 other songs within the next couple weeks.

In the studio version, the "extra" ending part with the orchestral parts are extended (the video version by ELO cuts it off). So beautiful - the combination of the vocals, the strings and the melody? Fire.

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) probably has more songs that can get stuck in your head than almost any other band, including this song. Jeff Lynne is one of the greatest songwriters, producer, arranger, singer, and all-around nice guys. The way they use strings, horns, synthesizers, and other instruments not usually thought of when it comes to rock music was and still is innovative.

ELO is amazing. I was growing up in the 1970s and '80s, and they were my favorite band. My favorite is "Prelude" and "Twilight" which start off their "Time" album.

This is the cropped song. The radio airplay version is the studio version, and it has the best ending with the strings. I'm not sure why everyone goes straight the the video; they're lip-syncing the studio song anyway.

I began my love for ELO from the double album of "Out Of The Blue" From then on, I purchase all their albums and Jeff Lynne's solo and Travel Wilbureys! Remember, he wrote and produced all of ELO.

It's even better in stereo! Unfortunately, these promotional videos, (which were meant to be shown on television shows), were all recorded in mono, (as there was no stereo TV, back then), so you don't get to hear it as it was meant to be. A shame they don't redub the promo videos with stereo sound, but there you go... 'Sweet Talkin' Woman', is another fantastic song from the ELO.

The last words to this are wrong in the subtitles.. They are NOT "Mr Blue Sky" but are "Please turn me over" as this is the final track on side 3 of the original vinyl album.

Possibly the most perfect pop song ever written. Jeff Lynne is definitely a genius and ELO have so many amazing songs. Their album "Eldorado" is in my top ten favorite albums of all-time and just a perfect record, start to finish. Great reaction and you definitely locked into the right mood this song creates.

The only problem with the version you played is that it is not the album version. It's not that you missed much, but the album version has a bigger impact the first time. It's tough for a reactor to know what version to listen to. If it wasn't for that 40 second or so omission, the video you chose would have been perfect. Even if Jeff Lynne looks joyless throughout one of the happiest songs to ever reach the top 10.

I always associate the sound of ELO/Jeff Lynne with The Beatles - I know he worked with George Harrison later on... is that why I can't shake the feeling of a connection, or maybe it's his use of cello's?

I don't think Jeff Lynne has ever been involved in any musical projects that have sucked. The man is a one of a kind Virtuoso! Check out his involvement with 'The Travelling Wilburys' with George Harrison, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison

Sorry to say that you got it wrong, this band is not pronounced ELO, it is in fact pronounced E.L.O. it's an abbreviation of the bands name, which is the ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA, a much loved band from the past ❤ and they are still going strong ? admittingley not with the original line up, and they may be doing some concerts in 2024.

Happy Fact: During ELO's run form 1972-1986 they had more Top 40 Hits in the US and UK combined (47) than any other band in the world! Suggestion: Don't use music videos, this video was not the full song. Instead, go right to the source and use the original album versions. Next from ELO: *"Evil Woman",* from the original album, Face The Music.

I agree with you. Unfortunately for some legitimate reason I'm sure, music videos need to break down songs to fit their format. Sadly, thought, you lose a lot of the complete music element, so there are times where I ask for reactions to songs without video to get the full musical effect.
