Not only is this a great song and not only does Jeff lynne's vocals hits it on the spot this song connects you to the seventies. This song is produced for the 70's. Elo was the 70's.

Mate where were you hiding then? Punk Rock. New Wave. New Romantics. Ska Synth. They were the 70s fella. Then there's Led Zeppelin. Deep Purple. Pink Floyd. ELP. Bowie. Roxy. You have to be from USA; to say what you did.

This song takes me back to those carefree days on the beach at summer when I was eight years of age, with my little transistor radio by my side. As a matter of fact, most of ELO's 70's tracks do that to me.

I was 15 when this came out in the mid 70's. This is the song that really got me into ELO's corner. Evil Woman caught my ear but I thought this song was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever heard at the time. To this day hearing this song always puts me in a nostalgic place of the times, my friends, loves, etc., being a Sophomore in High School. I went full throttle and started buying up all their albums at this point.

Ooooo...my *favorite* band! And what a beautiful ballad you've selected. This 1975 hit helped catapult ELO into Rock 'n Roll's upper echelon! Such a relatable song, too. Anyone who's ever fallen head over heels for someone, knows how it feels to be under the spell of love's unique, "strange magic". Can't wait, fellas!

"ELO - Livin' Thing (1977)" (Live) my family owned a skating rink and while I was in high school I also worked as the DJ (disc-jokey) which meant that my duties were play the music and referee and monitor the crowd while skating and playing games and racing. (Ring police with a whistle 😂) anyway ELO was always largely requested. Great music came from this band, one of my favorites. 🔥🎶✌🏼

Guys?!? I'm playin' catch up. Soooo glad you went down the ELO rabbit hole already. Lynne's genius allowed so many to continue feeling connected to The Beatles while being turned on to all kinds of new special effects and style that helped define his sound. Check out all of his co-writing gems right up through Tom Petty. Jeff is a beyond special in the singer-songwriter world. Production-wise, he continues to have the midas touch. Looking forward to more of your reactions to anything ELO and Lynne beyond. Love your response to the "la la la la las!"

The song is about a "strange type of magic"~feeling, a man has around a certain~captivating woman. The lyrics imply that the dream needs to end for the reality to begin. There is no conclusion, leaving it up to the imagination of the listening audience. 😊 👍 Great watching you guys again!
@Cosmo-Kramer2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's exactly right, Lisa. I agree that, "strange magic", refers to the feeling a man has when he's falling head over heels in love with a woman. But where we part is that I think the lyric about that feeling coming to an end refers to the inevitability of that strange magic wearing off in time. He knows that "strange magic" is ephemeral by nature, and that it's going to end, becoming a sweet dream in his memory. This is not his first rodeo, hence why he can see ahead even while under the spell of love's "strange magic".

This song wasn't that popular but it is still one of my dearest ELO songs, maybe because it has a Strage Magic :-) It is a different beautiful song to hear when you are in that mood. Relaxed or melancholic. On that mood you will find a lot other like Telephone Line and Can't get it out of my head, that where actually real hits. But I will wait still you react to All Over the World, Livin' Thing and Last Train to London! oh and Shine a little Love. Regards from Chile!

Not sure if someone has already commented on this, but it's worth pointing out that Jeff Lynne produced the new track releases by the Beatles in '95 or so when they did their Anthology box set. He was also a member of the Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison (also Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison). I would also like to thank you guys for doing such a great job of highlighting Canadian bands. Rush is not a stretch for anyone doing reactions, but you guys have also done the Guess Who, Triumph, April Wine, and Red Rider. Hats off for giving those great bands their due!
