I think I understand what you mean about ELO's songs being the same but different. ELO's fusion of rock and classical music was pretty unique to that group and was the inspired idea of the group's co-founder Jeff Lynne. There were a bunch of talented people in that band, but the creative center was Lynne. He wrote many of the songs, was the lead singer and guitarist, and, most significantly, he produced the songs and did much of the musical arranging, so he had a huge influence on how the finished works sounded. The result was that, while they sounded different from other bands, and their songs were different from one another, ELO still had a very particular signature sound that was fairly consistent and a reflection of Jeff Lynne's vision for the group's music. When we heard a brand new ELO song on the radio back in the day, we knew exactly who we were listening to, even if we had never heard that song before.

"Sweet Talkin' Woman" is a 1978 single by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) from the album Out of the Blue (1977). Its original title was "Dead End Street", but it was changed during recording. Some words that survived from that version can be heard in the opening of the third verse, "I've been livin' on a dead end street".[4] The track became the third top ten hit from the LP in the UK, peaking at number 6.[5] As a novelty, initial copies of the 12-inch and 7-inch single formats were pressed in transparent purple vinyl. "Sweet Talkin’ Woman" is written in the key of C major.[6] The version released in the United States was 10 seconds shorter than its British counterpart due to a slightly faster mix. In the US, it reached number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100.[7]

Do yourself a favour and settle in to listen to the 4 tracks on Side 3 of the album ‘Out of the blue’ in one hit. (Same album as this song)Together they form the concerto for a rainy day and are designed to be listened to in sequence. Fucking funny reaction, but when you are done doing the ELO that is all the same, just different, try the song that are differently different (although some might say they sound like more of the same.) I'm thinking of Jeff's post-2000 albums. A lovely song to pick could be _Moment In Paradise_ from Zoom(2001) - and for added fun, then compare it to a song by Jeff from the first Idle Race album The Birthday Party (19-fucking-68! I was _born_ that year!) _The Lady Who Said She Could Fly_ . Your brain will be squeezed so hard it'll either turn into a big diamond (or four small ones), or boil, blow up and vaporise into a purple cloud of steam. I fucking promise!

Sweet Talkin' Woman is one of their biggest hits, reaching number 2 in the charts, and was on their best selling album, "Out Of The Blue". Side three of this album is a four song piece called "Concerto For A Rainy Day" which is about how the weather affects your mood. Mate, it is so jaw-droppingly good, it will totally blow you away. 19 minutes long (about the same as some Pink Floyd songs!), please please please check it out. I just want to see your expression of pure disbelief! 🎸😎❤

I think what’s great about elo/Jeff is that it’s an almost 50/50 mix of 60s acoustic pop with something akin to disco and the very latest in electronic music and recording techniques. It’s a deliberate train crash of the two and it’s the most beautiful thing. And it turns out to be timeless despite the very of its time sound. Like if the mamas and the papas hung out with kc and the sunshine band.
@loadedorygun Жыл бұрын
Maybe his great friend George Harrison has something to do with that; very beatlesesque sometimes and the thick acoustic guitar is very much in line with harrison’s solo stuff during this period.
