After many years of shaving my experience has been that my Norelco provides a closer shave if you take an equal amount of time to shave with both systems. A very light back and forth motion works best. The key is that if you are in a hurry the electric will give a pretty good shave in a much shorter amount of time. But you can't beat a blade for that "Clean Face" feeling!

My electric razor gives me smooth skin with no stubble after two or three passes. I've also never sharpened it or replaced any parts and I've been using it since I started shaving over ten years ago. My complaints would be 1) the mess it makes 2) number of passes required, especially when the beard has gotten beyond stubble 3) the noise it makes, waking up everyone else 4) losing power sucks. But it requires no support, no sharpening, no replacements, no preparation, no additional products, and you can do it practically asleep without cutting yourself. It struggles a little around the adam's apple but I can't possibly imagine how anything could be more convenient.

@deadboy99555 жыл бұрын
I'd also add one complaint: Near the end of my neck area, the grain makes sort of a circle where it grows in every direction. My electric shaver has a big problem dealing with that area. It will always leave 1-2 hairs in that place after many passes.
@deadboy99555 жыл бұрын
John Macady you can always get rid of those 2 hairs with a normal blade. The problem is that an electric shaver can't get those two hairs any way or angle you try to shave it. Personally I love the electric shaver, it gets the job done in 3 minutes with no prep and minimal cleanup.

Kind of a silly comparison. The Norelco/Philips shaver is an Aquatec model, designed for both dry and lather shaving...and it's going to perform best when using a lather. ALL dry shavers are more speed and convenience than super closeness. Lather up BOTH sides and give them another test. Those results may surprise you!

Talks to hisself ... humorous ... you are a wonderfully strange and funny man, bro. So tell me, did you have imaginary friends as a kid? Mine was named "Chomby" and that was in the late 50's - long before Pee Wee Harman ripped me off. So I've been shaving with a Gillette Trac II since graduating HS in the mid 70's. I haven't had a safety razor in 50 years. Approaching 70, I'm tired of shaving and often go for days without until the wife complains. The Trac II gets so backed up it I have to clean it with the WaterPik. So I ordered a Norelco 3500 and a Weishi safety razor a couple days ago to knock down the forest before cleaning it up with the Trac II. YT must troll my Amazon account because I'm getting lots of video recommendations for shavers. Glad it recommended your video. Your user name suggests you're a musician too so I'm off to see if you have any music oriented vids. Thanks for the grins and your recs for my chin. Best! Jack

The Norelcos with the HQ8 heads perform much better than the old standard heads, like the shaver used in this video. I don't doubt that a safety razor will outperform an electric -- even with the newer heads. That said, I'm not switching anytime soon. Electrics are very portable, do not require water or soap, decent ones will still shave "good enough," and are far less expensive than safety razors or cartridge razors over time. I tend to get 7-10 years on Norelco rotary shavers, give them a good disassembly and thorough brushing every 3-4 years, blow them out daily, and have never found the need to replace the heads until long after the battery becomes useless or the motor dies, at which point I buy another electric. My first Norelco was a Christmas gift, which lasted me about 9 years before the motor died. My second Norelco lasted about 7 years, and still worked when my GF bought me a new Norelco for Christmas. That one lasted me 11 years, at which point it was lasting maybe 2-3 days on a charge. I bought my most recent Norelco about 5 years ago, for about $60. It's still doing its job. Over the past 30 years, I have had 4 electrics, and paid for 2 of them, a total of less than $100. Add up the prices of the other two, and I estimate perhaps less than $300 spent on shaving, including electricity. Amortized over 30 years, that's less than $10 per year, soup to nuts. After all that, I am still immensely curious about wet shaving. I may try it out at some point, just to see what it's like. Just don't hold your breath, it may still be a while. At a minimum, I probably still have at least 2-3 years left on my current shaver.

I sometimes use an electric razor. If I may suggest something that might help you, I would suggest a 1 day growth on the beard, and when shaving go in circles so you're sure to get a lot of stubble out. Also, make sure your face is well hydrated because if its too dry then it might suck the moisture out in a hurry leaving your face dry like the Sahara. :) i love your video by the way

The big thing that people may get on you for barbasol for and even as a beginner to this I can tell from trying gel, shaving foam(cream or whatever you want to call barbasol) and shaving soap is that shaving soaps and creams from a tube will give you a better lubrication and glides on the razor and the barbasol has sulfates in it which can be bad for your skin and the hair underneath. It's not a problem to really use it, but the other stuff does work better.

A wet razor will always give a better shave because the blade is directly on the skin, whereas electric razors have their cutting blade behind a protective shield
@SinatraLennon5 жыл бұрын
Correct!
@kevinblythe2192 Жыл бұрын
@@SinatraLennon I have always understood that the initial cutting blade on an electric razor lifts the hair then as follow up cuts are only milliseconds behind, cut the hair several times again before it retracts below the skin line. It seems you can get a very good close shave with a good electric razor if using the correct technique including the application of a drying powder on skin before use. I'm no authority with electrics though I did own one for a while but went back to wet shaving as I enjoy the 'process' more. One of life's pleasures you might say. Totally enjoyed the video even though I am 6 years late to the party.

I used a Norelco until 2 weeks ago. I already knew before I watched the entire vid that the DE would win. To be fair to Norelco, I had the thing (cheapest corded model) for years and never changed the blade. Philips says you should get a new set yearly but these cost almost as much as the razor. The Norelco never got my neck cleanly and I'd use a disposable razor and Barbasol every once in a while to clean it up.

Have you tried a safety razor yet?

Hey I have that electric shaver! It’s very popular, and definitely a daily shaver that only works on stubble and causes major razor burn on your neck. I think I need to replace the rotary blades.

There are tricks to sharpen the blades.

I had the same electric razor. Still have it to this day. It was a gift from my father when I graduated in 2013. You can actually take the blades out and clean it. Well, the entire head comes off of the electric razor and is to be replaced within 2 months. I still have the original head it came with in 2013. Oops! Lol

I still use mine when I’m too lazy to shave with a razor or if I don’t have time to shave. Not too bad, but not my preferred method.

Hi! As some commenters I look at the video is not fresh but actual! So my subject review: I had 3rd electric shaver vs 1 piece of Gilette Fusion Power 5 safety bladed battery powered manual blade.I hate now the 3 headed electric shavers-not cut so precise, wear fast, the replacement heads expencive.. and the most important: more time for me than the manual blade. The gilette beats high the electric ones, and makes perfect smooth skin (cca 1/3 or max 1/2 time of electric procedure) I will not buy electric again.

I think that with that type of razor it is most appropriate to make circular motions in order to get a better shave.

I use the Nerlco for my pubic area because I like to keep that area shaven but not completely gone. This helps to avoid ingrown hairs and that awkward uncomfortable regrowth period where it itches as the hairs grow back. This isn't the product for you if you're looking for that smooth freshly wax feel or completely hairless look, but if you prefer to keep it neat and very lowly trimmed then this works great and it's quick.

I use the norelco 2100 which cost 40 dollars. You swiped the electric shaver downward against your face I swipe it both directions against my face and I noticed that when I swipe it upward it cuts more hair and closer to the skin. Maybe you should try that. But I should mention that I am almost 17 I shave once a week because I don't have realy much of a beard.

Electric rotary razor is good enough for me most of the time, but nothing beats the closeness of a safety razor shave.

Just used the Braun 3040 foil razor and shaves pretty damn close. I am impressed. I am not going to say better than wet shaving but for me it is the only option as said here before little nicks are hazardous for me and after last one I had to have an operation, yes really, so wet shaving is no longer an option for me if I hope to stay out of hospital and you can do a lot worse than the Braun. I know this may fall on deaf ears but I am saying it anyway. I never realised how dangerous wet shaving could be for some people. I took it for granted as I am sure many do but became very serious for me so if anyone is in the same situation as me then this is an option for you.

Never heard of a safety razor until I stumbled upon your videos and now just ordered one on eBay for $19 with a walnut handle and am ordering a bunch of feather blades for it also ! Thanks for the info so cool

Well, I'm 21, have used my father's old DE razor, have tried Gillette razors, they all irritating my skin. Cause my beard is so tough. My friend works in Germany, he'll be back on Saturday. I asked him to buy me 3 head shaver and when I'll use it I'm gonna share my thoughts about it.
