This is an electric sitar I built. There are no effects added to the music recording, all the reverberating soundscape comes from the instrument itself. In this recording I have the volume for the pickup on the sympathetic strings turned all the way up and the pickup on the main strings significantly quieter, creating the spacious, relaxing textures characteristic of my electric sitar music.

This video is quite inspiring. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to buy my own Sitar, so I dream of building my own as well. Experimentation was underway, but inspiration and willpower were lacking...so i stopped. Seeing a Sitar as beautiful as yours helps spark the light inside.

Beautiful!! I would be interested in an electric sitar. But being a disabled veteran, I'm on a fixed budget. But thanks for the share. Always great to hear relaxing music from a great sitarist before I go to sleep.

Hey! I built one before I really knew what to do, and it cost very little. It's made from pine and the hard part is finding a gourd. Check it out at kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4HWhpWIptWqaJY if interested I'l share how to do it and what to do (and what not to do as I did). it takes only basic tools. I can also tell you where to get great pickups for only $5. Let me know if you want to give it a shot.

What made you switch to an electric ?? Beautiful playing!

Thanks! I still play acoustic sitar as well, for it certainly has a deep spirit that electric instruments rarely tune into. I decided to build an electric sitar because I have always dreamed of crafting my own instrument and was looking for a creative project, and now I love playing it - it has a spacious and clear sound that I find to be quite a joy to play.
