Fly it like you ride a bike. On a bicycle you are the drive system and battery. You pedal a bit, and then coast a bit. It you climb a lot of hills or pedal faster than you need to, you run down the battery (you). Nothing says you have to fly at a constant throttle setting or under power full time. Do an initial climb to a comfortable altitude and shut off the motor, glide a bit, and start up and then shut off the motor again. Never run the throttle at a higher RPM than you need to maintain level flight. It takes a few flights to figure it out, but once you get the hang of it, you will extend your flight times quite a lot. If you are into thermaling, you could be up for hours. Three years flying an electric trike and I love it.

FINALLY! i am asking this question since months to OPENPPG guys and others. never got a clear answer if this thing should be used to go to cloudbase. this was my last step to decide fly electric. you have no idea how much i wanted answer to this idea! 1500m is for sure enough to reach clouds in any place of the world. and you still have 50% battery left at the highest point. THANK YOU! so much! subbed

I got to see one of these in action up close today. It really is a glimpse of the future. When battery tech catches up plus other efficiency gains, I’m sure we will get there. The fellow that was flying one today (see the short I posted tonight) said the flight times are perfect for him because he only likes to fly 20-30 minutes at a time anyway so he actually uses the smaller (lighter!) motor. He said this is fantastic for touch & go practice also.

It would be neat to have a bar with a footrest and foot pedal power control like in a car. Nice to have hands free for control.

I like this. A lot. The motorless glide seems just epic. I am not a pilot... YET. But love the idea of the SP140. Curious if it will push a 240 lb guy and a lightweight trike. But am loving the idea of electric. Thanks for the share!

I think the smaller batteries are 15 lbs lighter and still get you 30 minutes. That would put the weight pretty close to a gas motor and you could still do a climb like that and float for 15 minutes. Swap out the battery and go again!

At ~74 pounds with the big battery, it is lighter than a fully fueled Scout or Gravity Defiant.

The lower power mode just makes it less responsive, easier to manage the power. You just need to be easy on the throotle and fly smart. I am sure i can get over an hour on it.

Most of my flights are 1 to 1.5 hours. It can be enough, but you always want to have a little left over just in case, so your electric flights would be more like 40 min. I think that can be enough, especially if you get an extra battery to swap once.

Falling is NOT flying, its Falling! And that happens to everything that goes up, ( it must come down). Flying is taking the machine upto say 2000ft, and "flying" (or maintaining) around at that altitude. So it would be a sell, if one says how much weight the machine and payload is, and maintaining a certain altitude. The test also needs to be at 180° opposing. ie, with and against wind at a constant temp. Also would be nice to see if it can be used with a trike so that the weight of batteries doesn't berry you into the sand on takeoff... Electric power will be the future once it can be used in a playful way too. One would think that the instant torque will be fun, once the time of cross country flight gets ample time. All this is just my opinion...

I rather fly an electric paramotor for 1hr than a gas motor and gliding is part of flying, the best part for me. Plus you can just upgrade the battery in another 2 to 3 years and get 2 to 3 hours of flights time no need to buy another paramotor, just battery.

Imagine thinking this is not a "playful" way to use electric power.... also, whats a plane that doesn't need to be refuel you speak of? other than going into orbit, all planes come down to fuel.... so i guess planes don't fly, only fall.

@@FlyHighParamotors Batteries are not progressing as fast as you think they are. Unless something changes real quick, I don't thing we will see 2 hours theoretical flight time from an electric foot launch system for about the next 10 years. Even with the upcoming 4680 batteries, solid state, lithium metal, or lithium sulfur batteries we are only look at 90 to 100 minutes.
