Just found your channel and subscribed, awesome life you're living. I've been stuck to my screen most of the day watching your videos and congratulations on your beautiful family you have started. I've been drawn to aviation my entire life but haven't really had things right for me to pursue buying a aircraft but have been flying paramotor for about a year now and I love it, I'm 60 years old but i don't see myself stopping anytime soon, some of us just aren't meant to spend our entire lives on the ground. Really enjoy everything you are doing on your channel and watching your videos I've decided to have a go at building a ultralight aircraft something similar to yours but will try using a four stroke engine.

At null wind (as well as not null wind) you may try to launch with some thrust applied from the start (say 50%). It will give you quite a help pulling and running and also it will give your wing some wind for inflation.

haha.. Nice flight. Thank's for brining us. I fly the OpenPPG X4 and definitely need some hearing protection. I don't know how many cycles you have on your battery but if your still getting 50minutes worth of power (55% and 25mins!) that seems really good. I hear ya about old wings and zero wind launches. I bought an Apco Hybrid. It's not efficient but it's ridiculously easy to launch. You're really trusting that thing flying low over places that would really really suck to hike out of with 70lbs of kit! Crop dusting would not work unless the spray fluid is magically lightweight. Imagine running a zero wind launch with even another 5 gallons (30lbs?) of payload! No thank you sir and 5 gallons of weed spray won't go very far! LOL. One other disadvantage I've discovered with my X4 is that near the end of the flight the available power is down a bit but my weight is the same so in a go around situation the performance is less than the take-off performance not better. Not an issue where you are but my fields are pretty tight and surrounded by 80' Cedar and Fir.

Yeah! Why doesn't he use that? I've never used a paramotor so maybe I don't understand enough. Is there a possibility of not getting enough lift and falling?
@sailor-rick
@sailor-rick Жыл бұрын
@@ChristmasEve777 Yes. You need enough airspeed moving past the wing... (about 8 mph for an average PPG wing)... which is easy with a 5 mph headwind because you only need to generate another 3 by running. But on a still day, hauling 75 lbs of equipment, with a chair rubbing against the back of your legs, it's a bit more difficult to get that 8 mph of airspeed because it's all running speed. Some wings require slightly less airspeed and some slightly more. Generally, the more lift built into the wing, the less airspeed is needed. Speedwings fly faster, but they require more speed to get into the air. When ppg pilots talk about more efficient wings they are probably talking about glide ratio, which is not the same as lift. More lift means more vertical speed per unit of airspeed. More glide ratio means more horizontal distance per unit of lift. Of course, increased speed means increased drag (air friction) so there is a diminishing return on airspeed. Every wing has a "best" speed for maximum glide slope and a "best" speed for maximum lift. Please note: I know more about sailplanes than PPGs, so if I have made a false comparison, I apologize and stand corrected.

11:38 when checking the prop for quietness - dont look at the DB rating. By that it might not seem too different but it's the frequency it produces those DB that matter. It's the next best thing to seeing superman take off. It made me miss my crop-dusting days, it's the powerlines you don't see that really get you. I remember all of the training I had to do for my low flying endorsements, bouncing my tyres across the crops touching the ground for practice and running parallel with the powerlines to see if I could spot daylight under the wire to ensure I could fit under them. I have been dreaming of getting an Electric Paramotor for use in my country Australia. If those Torroidal props turn out efficient and quite, that would be a game changer. I know it is planned to be popular for aircraft and drones. There hasn't been much advancement in propellors, they used to have contra-rotating ones and both inline and as twin engine type, which took out torque. Out of expediency they stopped developing those in the beginning and instead stuck a tractor prop on and that went on for most aircraft until WW2, torque killed heaps of spitfire pilots on take-off with those 12 cylinder engines.
