Here's some more real-world numbers. I have a Lightning with the extended range battery and I can get 205 miles when towing my 18 ft boat. Granted, my boat + trailer weighs about 2,000 lbs which is much less than the Mastercraft. 205 miles gets me everywhere I need to take my boat, and back home, so I have no complaints. When *not* towing I can easily get the full 310 miles that Ford advertises.

I think they are a awesome idea just as you say though they are not there yet for long distance. Unless you have a van and are stopping heaps at powered sites. The best thing about them is if you are at a powerd site you can park up for a few days and change it up. Saving heaps on fuel

Great comparison, but with a $250,000 price tag, I simply can’t see the Lightening being worth it anytime soon. Not to mention that half a day and a full night only gave you approx 50% (given there was charge left). Nah thanks. Might ok for caravan park jumping though.

They are $209K on the website, not $250K . Most sites would have 15amp plugs he would have got more charge if he used that plug. This was a worst case scenario so not too bad

Mate, I liked the video. Pretty impressive vehicle. It's never going to be a tourer, but it's not bad to tow nearly 4 tonnes over that high elevation range to camp, and I still get back. A standard F-150 can range from $150k -$200k. I would rather do this, for sure. Cheap AF to run, too. GT Rebel is awesome though, I love that truck

Would be interesting to see the cost comparison with how much it cost to charge some of those re charge points are apparently quite expensive and then also a 5yr rough servicing cost on standard maintenance especially with the battery replacement cost. Otherwise it's great to see what the EVs r capable off it will be a while till they can compete with the remote accessibility of a good petrol or diesel rig though.

Firsts off great vid really enjoyed it , interesting test of vehicles but not a true reflection there was a cost of charging the EV as it was charged before hand . Was there any lights on ,aircon ,radio whilst driving .and towing bot would be different from towing a full size caravan due to height . What would be good is to to drive it for a good distance and charging at the charge stations ,and get a time on how long to charge and how much to charge it as I believe it is quite expensive ,that would be good information . You did give an honest answer in relation to what this vehicle is suitable for which is stay close to home or charge stations , Thanks mat unbiased option as always . You’re not bad on the back of the boat well done mate .

WOW, a whole 200km (124 miles) range. That's pathetic. In the US, that isn't enough range to get from my house to one of the major lakes. YES, the Rebel uses a lot of petrol, but how hard is it to refill? I'm sure there are petrol stations fairly conveniently located to refuel and it won't take but a few minutes to do so.
@Testpilotpirate
@Testpilotpirate 7 ай бұрын
They went past Aratula which isn’t far from the lakes and there’s a major truck stop with high flow diesel so any hungry trucks can refuel quickly. Mostly Tesla cars in QLD but charging them costs about 60 cents/kwh in Aussie money but about 25 cents/kwh at home using 240Volts. Outback Australia isn’t good for EV’s due to really long distances between fuel stops and or any form of human habitation.

@maine-lygamingtips2039 exactly and it’s the same mindset with ICE cars too, people obsess over the L/100 as if it’s the only cost of owning a vehicle. Do that same test after the battery has been used everyday for 12 months as that will also see how the battery's are and how long they last as I know over time and constant charging batteries start to loose there holding charge. You said yes you can go there and back but no that is wrong as you had to charge it. Next time do it again but do not charge it as you didnt top the fuel up in the ram. Electric will never replace fuel or diesel. Do the same test but with a fully loaded tradies trailer out on the job site all day and used the same as they use it on site for the day and i bet you will not make it to a charging station and if you do you will now get home at midnight from work.

I would have the electric. I love my diesel but I can't deny the electric f-150 just tickles me in a way no other vehicle does. I don't own a big boat or van, I only tow a trailer when doing a dump run or grabbing some free bits and pieces, but I do quite a bit of camping and this would be lovely. If 90% of my driving experience is through the city, and the rest is camping, this would be perfect for me. Obviously that's not everyone's experience, but this car definitely has its place. I'm very keen on seeing a similar sort of setup that Edison motors is doing with their semi trucks, a diesel generator and electric setup. Then you could do properly long distance travel in these vehicles but with shockingly good fuel consumption.
