Right? My only reservation would be giving up the stick shift. Driving even brand new (any/ take your pick gasoline/ petrol) cars in automatic, I’ve yet to be impressed by the torch, and (in my experience) not one can even compare to the get up and go of a mini in manual transmission, so I’m super curious to see the comparison (of manual to the electric). I’m assuming this comparison was between an automatic...

Stop telling everyone! The petrolheads are going to eventually swallow their pride, accept that instant torque combined with heavy regen gives performance benefits. Once you accept that noise = wasted energy that could be going to the wheels, then the GTI and Scooby squad are going to be getting them and beating us in our 'boring milk floats'.

Not enough range to take on a road trip or holiday if it’s not your second Car. The difference is five years, oh wait that’s how far this car is behind on range to some of the competitors. The S will drive spiritedly up the west coast of Scotland say from a Glasgow to Ullapool taking the scenic route for six or seven hours with a ten minute top up of petrol and not miss a beat .This SE will get to to Fort William at just over a hundred miles and you’ll have to charge for 30-40 minutes then repeat every 100 miles or so if pushing on and enjoying the roads. Not everyone buys a MINI as a second Car and a few of us like a decent road trip in them. They had the MINI E in California in 2009 that did 96 miles to a charge, granted no rear seats, this is hardly a leap forward. We’ve had five MINI’s and I was even one of the first to sit in a SE here in the U.K. it drives fantastic let down by poor range that’s more 2012 than 2020. Second gen maybe when this version steps up and stops hiding behind the excuse “it’s a city Car” for a lack of forward thinking in BMW part to build on there EV platforms. Heads up BMW loyal MINI fan not changing his Car just now as I usually would have because the Model Y made in Giga Berlin looks a real option, alarm bells should be ringing.

How much fun would a slower, 4,000-pound MINI that costs as much as a Tesla be?
@joshstreet39194 жыл бұрын
I do 100% get what you're saying but if I'm honest, I don't see the range as an issue at all. You say hiding behind the excuse that "it's a city car", its not an excuse, that's what the car is made for. In most instances the car will be a second car, it is more than likely not going to be used for a road trip or holiday. But if it is then you've already thought about that before you buy it. If you do more that what the range can offer then it's simple, the car isn't for you. The MINI Electric isn't meant to be a rival for a Tesla, if you look at the Peugeot e-208 or Vauxhall Corsa-e then yes the range is still lower but at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. I will admit, at the minute I don't think it is worth the difference. For example, my mum has a Cooper Exclusive and would potentially get the Cooper SE next time around. However, she only does 6000 miles a year which is perfect for the car but the price difference make up for a saving in fuel, it would be there or there abouts at break even - thats before charging costs.
@SWR1124 жыл бұрын
Josh It’s dead simple we have had MINI’s since 2007. The more special one has only covered 24k now is six years. I never keep my MINI that long. It was bought split new factory ordered to my spec but it the one that does the fun stuff like holiday and road trips. It was actually one of the first F56 Cars on the road. The second 16 (Nov built) plate has done 127k miles now. I decided my next Car would be EV and I don’t have a MINI option. Last week fri- Sunday i did Glasgow to Duxford (cambridgeshire) Via York on the lower milage Coop on the way down and Cosford on the way back. 837 miles all in and that was really the two days driving 400 plus miles each day and one the Saturday doing only 16 miles. This Car is next week up the highlands that will do probably 900 miles. This is the Car that will do 50-60 miles a week normally but four or five times a year It gets out for decent runs. The disappointment was waiting to see what MINI would bring to the table and finding out a real world range of 120 miles and a Car in it most basic starting for £25k and going to £32k for the level 3. I didn’t say it was a rival to the Tesla as let’s be fair one is a long distance animal that can do 300 plus miles and has a huge charging network and is five year ahead on drivetrain, battery and tech heavy. Tesla was only brought up because as a avid MINI fan I’m probably moving on from the brand after 14 years unless the second gen MINI really does become a holiday / road trip option with 200-300 miles real world.

Great comparison but I wasn't surprised because every acceleration is instant. Another example.. Drag race a BMW i3s v BMW M3 0-30 MPH and 30-60 the i3s wins both. Of course 0-60 it gets slaughtered. All to do with the instant torque.

How many laps the EV can sustain its performance?
@hoemma2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? Until the battery dies. There is no real performance degradation with an electric motor. No turbo charger, no clutch, no drivetrain that could overheat. And you don't need to warm it up, like a petrol motor.
@alonsocaocristino79052 жыл бұрын
the tires will eventually fail due to batterys weight increase,also the battery/motor will overheat and decrease their performance. The are a lot of videos of Teslas doing Nurburgring and the first half of the lap the performance is one thing and the second half is another
@hoemma2 жыл бұрын
@@alonsocaocristino7905 I'm aware of this issue, but I don't believe that this will affect the Mini Cooper SE in any similar way. The performance of the motor is much lower and the air intakes at the front are completely overdimensioned, since they just took the chassis of the Cooper S. The engine should get much more cool air than it needs. The 30kWh battery is tiny, compared to any Tesla, which has significant effects on the weight and overall physics when racing on a track. The Model S weights as much as a full size American SUV and has an insane torque, that's why the tires degrade so fast. The high performance engine can also drain much more power from the battery, especially if you have the 2-motor-version. That's why the battery overheats so fast. The Mini SE is still using the antiquated engine from the BMW i3, which was never designed for performance, but efficiency.

The last four cars I have owned didn’t come with a spare tyre. Ever since cell phones became ubiquitous, spare tyres are not as necessary. I’d rather call at tow truck than risk my life changing a tire on the side of the road. Without a spare, there is less weight to lug around and more room for storage.

electric car with 100 HP is not the same like a gasoline car with 100 HP. The EV has no heat. So its cheating. You actually need 180 HP gasoline car if you want it a fair comparison with the EV. Only then both engines bring the same power to the streets. Because 80HP is going to develop heat in a gasoline car. N0, the future is not E-cars. E-cars are slower, have less range and are simply nonsense.

Yeah... that’s nice. But imagine everyone going electric... unsustainable. Needs a revolution in energy storing first. (the very first car was an electric car back in 1899 but was abandoned probably for the same reason ?).
