Aluminum wires is not a huge issue in an older home but when it goes to the devices there are certain connectors we use to go to copper as pig tail. All devices today are copper only. As an electrician I’ve ran into fellow electricians that would make aluminum and copper connections wrong. For example one guy I worked with just put normal 66 wire nuts on a aluminum to copper wire connections, he just put antiox on the connection. The end result was a loose connection and I dead short after a couple months. When I explained his mistake to him he stated he put antiox on it. I told him antiox is just what it sounds like anti oxidant for the aluminum, it does nothing to hold the two different metals together when subjected to heat rise and cooling from being under load. I also gave him suggestions on approved connectors for the purpose. Bigger connections of cooper and aluminium I use rocket splices inside an approved junction box etc.

Too many people try to save a buck doing it themselves or with the local "handyman." Just cause it works doesn't mean it's not a hazard.

as a contractor in america I can honestly say this is wat u c in almost every older home. If u would have tore all the drywall of I garuntee the whole house full of problems. This job would literaly just b the next job. Nothing here is different than wat i c every day. Wish I could speak better on the behalf of made in America.

This made me do a quick look around my house, just realized that the fucking kitchen plug isn't protected by a gfci... well within that 5' range from a water source.
@jakesully54023 жыл бұрын
Most older counter plugs aren’t GFCI protected, although they should be if they are within a wingspan of water. I’d have to look up the actual distance limit in my code book, but distance isn’t very far from the sink. Fortunately, newer kitchen counter plugs are GFCI protected

I would like to have a house built on my own property should I have different contractors for electrical and foundation and building ect! I see you have your team but I am just starting and it is a huge undertaking and how do I start? Thank you!
@iLikeC00kieDough5 жыл бұрын
Yes you will hire subcontractors to handle each phase of construction. Or hire a general contractor to oversee all the subs

This episode where the owners got screwed by a contractor obviously. Lol they wanted to renovate their kitchen in order to sell their home and move to a larger one because of more children. Mike didnt want to do the job, but he realized this couple was taken advantage of so he agreed to help

It always seems to be the woman who doesn't understand safty and code violations! I am going through this now with my Wife while I am preparing to sell our home, Which we purchased with all these hazards and code violations due to a really shitty inspector she hired before we purchased!
