Years ago I was rewiring a hundred year old small house. My permit was refused because I did not have a receptacle on a 2' wall. They was a heating duct taking up entire width of wall and besides the cellar door opened against this wall making it impossible to have a table there. My electrical inspector agreed that a receptacle was not practical so after weeks of phone calls & 3 trips downtown finally got my permit.

Good explanation, but I would have loved to have you do this on a whiteboard so we can visually see that.

Trouble with starting 6' from say door frame if a night stand and a bed are placed on wall with door receptacle is behind the bed. For friends and good customers would install first duplex receptacle within a foot of doorway then maximum of 10'. In living rooms & dining rooms like to install double duplex under each window. Nice vidio. With the sky high prices of copper & difficulty securing supplies installing extra wire &/or devices could cost your bid to be too high.

Great question! Although you're not going to be required to put a receptacle directly behind the if you don't want to, I typically start my measurement from behind the door*, but you may have an inspector that will let you start the measurement from the edge of the door!

So that means that 6ft & 12ft are not minimums but maximum length? So my questions are... Can I have 2 Receptacles instead of 12ft from each other be at 8ft from each other so that the appliance is only 4ft away from each Receptacle?? And can I have the 1st Receptacle at 4ft from the door instead of 6ft from it since it says within 6 ft??
