I always call them bulbs, do my best not to call them lamps as I've been tought so people know what I'm talking about, bulbs go in a lamp, I also say radial final circuit just for a laugh, good vid enjoyed it,

This video is absolutely gold, I spent hours a few years ago looking for something like this, I'm a qualified spark but never even seen someone testing but thankfully that has all been sorted here in Ireland now. Its just some of the videos are classroom based but seeing real world just makes more sense to another of us👍

@ef7480 yeah that's the way it was in Ireland for a long time your boss would scribble the certs in the front of the van on a Friday evening no test records either but it's all changed now and yes qualified through a 4 year apprenticeship

Hi mate, you only need two wires for you Ze line and earth. Your PFC should be taken with the main earth connected then two test between line and earth then line and neural, which ever is highest that's your PFC.

Hey really informative video, but just want to point out something which I bet you already know, regarding RFC testing and it just came out wrong while filming. The dead test R1+R2 of a RFC should read roughly the same at each socket (r1+r2)/4 within reason (0.05 ohms) if the cross connections are correct.The size of the cpc is irrelevant. If it increases to the centre point of the ring and decreases back towards the origin, you've connected the wrong cpc to the wrong line of each leg. The live testing on the other hand (Zs) would do what you suggested and increase to the mid point and decrease to the origin due to the current traveling down the earth fault return path with the lowest impedance, it won't split evenly down both legs just down the fastest route etc.........R1+R2 same reading at each point, Zs increases to mid point. and decrease to origin.

Really great video Jack enjoyed it and full of great content thanks, but amendment 2 states earth must be connected to earthing arrangement when doing IR tests Reg 643.3.1 The insulation resistance shall be measured between: (i) Live conductors, and (ii) Live conductors and the protective conductor connected to the earthing arrangement. During this measurement, line and neutral conductors may be connected together. anyway was routing for you to get £250 out the van vault 😂👀

The readings on a ring circuit should be the same at every point when conductors are cross connected, should they not? (R1+Rn & R1+R2 parallel paths ) Also, I understand that Amd 2 of BS7671 only requires the result of the x1 RCD test (within 300ms) is what should be recorded on the sheet when testing AC type or A type devices set to AC on the test instrument-no?👍

They should be near enough but within 0.5 I believe, your correct about the rcd trip times also they have taken x5 out now 👍

Good vid. Just one thing I noticed: when IR testing, the cpc (and all bonding etc) should be connected to the MET, and the test carried out between the live conductor(s) and the MET.

I don’t use the adaptors I just struggle 😂 yeah you can test at the bottom of rcbo but I think the future away u go up the circut if it still trips in time the better, probably makes no difference at all just in my head it sounds better 😂😂😂😂

Normally the highest reading when you test the circuit or taking lights down you would only gave a feed in and not out to next light

Nice job! I've just started out by finishing my license 1A and your videos are excellent. I did my first test last week - just tried an RCD test for shits and giggles. My meter did not let me take the reading because an error came up "Uc > UL". My UL is measured at 50V. I'm assuming this means my earth rod is shit ... any clues as to what this might be fellow sparkies?
