Another great review, thanks guys! Very interesting your re-gen test, please post it, it's a valid test and people should know. I'm actually headed up tonight above Ogden, Utah on a 3000+ ft elevation gain trail ride (first ride on the surron) and I'm going to record battery level at top, and then at the bottom to see if there is any distinguishable gain. Low expectations after hearing your remarks. And my test is not a constant DH like Pikes Peak is....so now I'm expecting that I won't see any range gain in our decent due to all the flat sections. I'll come back and post my results. I wonder if the Surron can even do a 3k elevation gain ride? LOL. We'll find out!

We took the SurRons up a single track trail ride last night with 3000 ft elevation gain and a total of about 16 miles. My wife and dad rode them (pretty slowly) and I was shocked at the range. I rode a dirt bike with them. I was expecting the 3k of elevation to kill the battery, but after 3k ft of climbing over 8 miles they both had 60% battery. During the first 1000’ descent they gained 6% and range went up to 66% from regen. Then rest of the ride had flat areas and not as much DH and when we got to the truck they had 65% battery. I was very impressed by this, was expecting much worse. This means even with big elevation gains you could ride about 30 miles if you aren’t wide open fast riding. I will be posting a video and I’ll take it up again and ride myself at a much faster pace to compare the results of a MX racer riding one vs my wife. :) might want to follow me if you are interested in seeing these videos in about a week.

I am still between this and a KTM 390 ICE not far off in price until you add in all the dealer fees for the KTM. Regen depends on many things, motor windings, controller mosfets, thickness of traces on controller board, type and size of wire used.... I always over build but, I use 8g silicone wire for motor phase wires, high strand count, tinned copper core, not copper coated aluminum core.. so high strand count, high conductivity, low resistance... I use 12g wires for the short distance from outside motor, to inside, usually Deans wire, the best there is IMO.. some controllers, limit amps in regen to protect battery, very few batteries have protection for the power side, EM3EV is about the only one I know who does. Regen can spike huge amount of amps, so to protect controller and battery, it is limited usually or you fry controllers. The software you show, is very similar to the yoyangking controllers who make them for Daymak etc.. and probably the one you are riding on.... check out lyen.com he builds kickass controllers in the US.

Depends upon the state. Some states rate ebikes based upon wattage, if they have pedal assist and if you get that assist when pedaling only or if by throttle alone as well. They typically have mph caps too, usually around 20. Regardless, check your state laws.

I haven't rode since my early 20's but I'm just curious how would this fair speed wise vs a 125 2 stroke? Since electric motors get all their torque at once seems like it would be easy for this thing to get away from with it's light weight.
@ElectricCycleRider4 жыл бұрын
@Steven Vaughn It's a very different experience than a 125 2 stroke because it has a very linear power curve, whereas a 125 is a bit of a light switch depending what RPM you're in. It's a very easy bike to ride. Probably easier than a 110 4 stroke. And really similar in power too. The Segway / Surron comes on quicker than a 110 in power but it's very tame overall in comparison to a MX bike. You should try one out Steven!

How long does the battery last for. What happens when you are out riding in the pine Barron's and the battery dies? Are you done for the day? I usually ride all day when I go out. I thought when the quiet cat came out it was a cool bike to use to get to the tree stand and served a purpose but I just don't get it and I'm not hating on it but I think it takes away from the experience of what a dirt bike should be like. Just my two cents.

You can turn off regen now on the lb x. I would turn it off because like you said in this video, that will kill the battery life. Its like charging your phone and for 2 percent then unplug it, then plug it and so on. I always charge lithium ion battery when it gets under 10 percent left but never let it fully die. The no regen is the way to go imo
@shadyhill14764 жыл бұрын
that thing kind of rips, can you ride that on the road or would you have to register it ?
@WhoTfIsMark4 жыл бұрын
Sur Ron sells a pedal kit for the bike, so you could put that on and beat a ticket, arguing it's pedal assisted. Here in NYC, if an ebike is pedal assisted and goes under 25mph, it counts as a bicycle. You'd then be able to ride unregistered and without a helmet.
@larrymacdonald42414 жыл бұрын
Depends on country, in Canada, it has to be a max of 500 watts, can only reach 32 kph after a certain distance, it must have pedals and there are a few other things. I use ebike controllers with a 3 speed switch, in low bike is street legal, because of the pre-set power level in the controller. Most set them 50%/75% and 100 %. but there are many controllers you can program, yoyangking makes many bluetooth models, ebikes.ca has a compter programable one, the most features of any controller, based on a controller made in Canada by OSI. You really have to check your local laws to be certain, if USA, each state is different.

If you had to choose between the Sur-Ron X and the Segway, which one is more reliable? I’m trying to decide because price point and alternative parts maybe to be more available somewhat with the Sur-Ron X here in the U.S. Segway has an app but how is the support for updates. I’ve seen the videos for the Sur-Ron to get full power & to me that seems less troublesome than an app that may glitch. I really want to get a edirtbike and it’s so much money I’m nervous to which bike I should get. I have a SUPER73 and the best thing about their company is the Warranty and their commitment to help their customers, so if something fails on their bikes I know it will be taken care... eventually. Thank you for your video, and hopefully at some point I’ll be able to purchase either a Sur-Ron or Segway. I’m just curious which bike you like best.

How well would these keep up with something like a Honda sr250. I imagine the ranges is limited but how does the speed / handling compare
@ElectricCycleRider4 жыл бұрын
@Mayhem Mahan I've ridden the Yamaha SR250 before and that is one great little bike. So bulletproof! If that's what you're thinking of, the Segway will have more torque off the line up to about 40mph but the SR250 will pull far away when the speeds get higher. The Segway weighs less than half of an SR250 and feels that way when you're riding. If you're thinking of a Honda XR250, most of the same thoughts apply 😂 Another bulletproof bike that will be beat off the line but will pass the Segway at higher speeds. More range. Heavier and not as nimble. Hope this helps!

My X260 should be here shortly and this video came at a great time. Thank you! 3 questions I have: 1) which cam was your on-board, the GP7 or Sony? And what frame size and FPS were you running? 2) have you had a chance to ride in eco mode and test the range? 3) is the suspension travel really only 3" as the website says or is it 8" like the Sur Ron? Thanks for posting the parts list! That’s super helpful as well. Subscribed!

@Gene Carbonell Hey Gene, awesome to hear you're nearby and glad you'll be riding your new bike soon. The on-board camera I'm using is the GoPro Hero 7 and I'm shooting at 24FPS and usually 1080p. I know 4K would be better but it lags in the edit and I'm usually editing on the road on my laptop. I rarely ride the bike in eco mode so I have not tested the range in that setting yet. The bike has more than 3" of suspension travel. 8" is approximately correct for the fork. Thanks for your support and let me know how you like the bike! 👍

IF you are considering buying a SurRon, my advice is HURRY UP AND GET OFF THE FENCE. Why? I suspect the prices on them will shoot up very soon. The Segway is$1400 more, the KTM is almost 3x more, and other competitors are now coming out that are in the $7000-$8000 range. Better buy now while these things are crazy low prices, $3600 is a steal for what you get compared to all other comparisons. This is the same price as a decent (not high-end) mountain bike!!!

@Robert Corser Absolutely can do that. I did a Top 5 Mods video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqXCqGB4mr6seLM The biggest things not pointed out here are the fact that I'm running a Rockshox Boxxer fork. I would definitely recommend upgrading fork/shock depending on what you have on your bike. The foot pegs are very dull and should be upgraded. Also running a standard 420 chain (non o-ring) for less resistance. Depending on your terrain/riding style, I'd also suggest changing the rear 48 tooth sprocket to a 54 or 60. Hand guards if you're in the trees a lot. Ride by wire throttle is pretty cool when it becomes available to purchase. Lastly, if you've got the money and interest, a 72v battery and controller would also be a big upgrade. Man, that's a lot huh? Now the Sur-Ron costs as much as the KTM Freeride E-XC. Haha.
