You did great given the circumstances. Probably would have placed 3rd or 4th with some exercise and better pegs. If you didn’t have custom tuned suspension that would have saved your arms… that and exercise and diet. When I saw the rock gardens I was like NOPE… if I did this run all my effort would go into quality of life upgrades, suspension, rearsets/pegs, full hand guards, tires, then I would train for a triathlon for 3 months running up to the race. There is a very specific regiment for triathlons with an increase then decrease in difficulty with a focus on diet and recovery at the end. The week before I would be very focused on dietary needs and the day off especially. I wonder how many people forgot to fill their drink containers with no-xplode and forgot to eat a bunch of carbs or whatever their fav is before hand. Everyone has their own way of carb loading for triathlon but I wonder how many of these riders didn’t even give exercise and diet a second thought. I watched the video on the top bikes and one thing I saw a lot of was suspensions from downhill MTB or dirt bikes. One guy said he had a boxxer and that’s not a proper suspension. He didn’t say I have an Avalanche Racing Boxxer. Nobody that I remember mentioned any suspension tuners. I don’t own a single stock fork for any of my MTBs I have a stack of forks. At least 8 and a few spare shocks. Every single rear shock is Avalanche Racing, Push Industries or Volsprung Suspension modded. Half the forks are the same names with 3 of them being hybrid coil spring conversions and one being a double spring conversion from Avalanche (both sides are sprung on a fork that normal only one side is). I assure you that those mods reduce the beating your body receives and increases your traction and ability to overcome obstacles. One guy had a blown rear air shock on a Sur Ron… yeh but he had a modded motor and controller if memory serves. Someone was bragging about 20,000 watts!!! I didn’t see a single spot where that would have mattered. Get a bigger sprocket… gear the bike so it can barely reach whatever the top speeds people are known to hit is. Honestly unless you plan on placing podium you don’t even need to hit the top speeds. A few MPH under is fine. Too many people focused on raw power!

@Moto Life Enduro It's nice to have but the thought of having it is sometimes more important, if that makes sense. @Surron electro enduro diary I struggled a bit with suspension on my bike prior to coming out. Only had 2 rides to try and narrow in on something. The EM factory sent suspension settings for the race, which the 2 other EM riders rode on their bikes. I didn't get the memo in time 😂 and rode mine mostly stock, which felt less than ideal in some sections. I've got those recommended suspension settings now though and will try a back-to-back test to see how it does.

I was floored at how many Sur-ron's and small bikes were there. If I'm going to spend $12k on a race bike, I'm going to do a full size conversion. I'm not a racer, but I'd love to build a racer's bike. Put the battery in FRONT of the motor and do some stuff you actually can't do on a gas bike. Make it better than any gas bike. Same with hill climbs. You could build a 100kw bike that weighs under 300 lbs and destroy any hill climb open class. Since you only need a couple minutes of battery.

@@ElectricCycleRider it looked as if you really didn’t need the clutch. Also- could save on weight without it. I’ve also noticed one could use the brake sensors like a clutch if you’re using the clutch for the “kill power” function. However, I don’t even think the sensors are needed with the instantaneous low end torque of these ebikes. Clutch’s are used on gas bikes to gain instant low end torque. Ebikes naturally have this (ask all the guys who looped out on mine the second they touched it .. despite being warned) I like those EM bikes, but they don’t offer any range upgrades that I know of. The little Chinese things are way more customizable imo

Great ride Tucker I can definitely sympathize with the arm pump. It was my biggest enemy racing either MX or cross country. I found if I rode my YZ 125 I didn't get it hardly at all but on the 250 it was bad warming up and stretching helps breathing and try to relax
@ElectricCycleRider
@ElectricCycleRider 2 жыл бұрын
@Neal Peters Ahh! For sure. Arm pump sucks! I hydrated best I could, did a quick run before the race to get the blood circulating, and you can hear me trying to breathe and lower the heart rate to get rid of it! @shredmas
@shredmas 2 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricCycleRider I found the more practice I could get in before the race the less arm pump I would have whether it was MX or cross country. It's hard to do in an off-road event because they don't always have a place you can warm up and of course you don't want to burn any battery up. But even railing some circles and getting the blood flow into your arms and then trying to relax on the start line. @@ElectricCycleRider Wow that is pretty good! How is suspension compared to a KTM 450?

Tucker - do you believe that the comparatively light weight & maneuverability of the EM left you more or less beat up than full size & travel suspension would have been ? .. did you use the clutch often ? One things for sure , EM has plenty of power.

Nice run man! That was a good lead, those foot peg really messed up your run. The arm fatigue is no fun and it will for sure hinder you from holding on the bike. I sub’d looking forward for more races. You got me really looking into these ebikes.

Better off getting regular dirt bike I used to have yz450f and put it desert tank on it and you have 100 mi range try doing that with electric bike even the most expensive KTM only has about the same as the range as a sur-on about 30-40 miles

@@ElectricCycleRider That would be fun! However I am seriously wondering how you trained for this event. Do you have a video describing your training for the month before this event that I have some how missed? Can I suggest a new video about a visit with the winner Sam to ride the trails he was using to prep for the event? Perhaps you could compare his prep to yours and have a viral youtube hit on your hands
@ElectricCycleRider

If you're seriously wondering, my training was mostly working behind a computer and taking care of our newborn baby. It would be awesome to have had time to properly train for the race but life happens! Despite my lack of prep, I'm quite pleased to have finished quicker than almost 300 other riders in TKO Race 1.

@@ElectricCycleRider Life does happen and congrats on your new baby! As Elon Musk has been saying low birthrate is the number one threat to the future, and you are doing your part! Doing that ride with no rock garden training and getting 5th is amazing! You clearly chose the right trials oriented light weight bike as the winner did the same. Suggestion for next year, take a couple of minutes and scan the other 300 riders on the start line. The video as it is posted now looks like you were racing 6 other riders. The post race interview with the 20 or so other riders has no hint that therw were 300 overall. Still would like to see an in depth interview with the winner Sam and review of his training regimen. I think it would be highly viewed with a title like: The training that was worth XX minutes at the TKO Race 1 . Good luck getting your shuteye

Love the idea!!! But that track tho… a little heavy on the boulder’s for those electric bike’s… especially those SurRon’s 😂 What kind of suspension were you running… Fox? Edit: Wait you were riding a SurRon?! Props no matter what type of suspension because they don’t seem to have the ability to grab the bike with your knee’s… at least the Talaria has a little better ergonomic’s in that department. You should have ride that electric KTM I’ve seen in previous video’s, that probably would’ve done a little better on the rough stuff No?

Idk what anyone says that was seriously some tough riding and gritty as fuk!! The mx bikes had the advantage because of thier tire sizes. And that they can easily roll over those rocks where a smaller/thinner tire gets caught up. Whereas the bugger tires glide over alk that chunky stuff that is incredibly strenuous and much slower to ride through. If you had a larger set of rims and larger tire I think you easily would’ve taken them
