When Ed Catmull was a kid, he loved Disney films and he dreamed of becoming an animator when he grew up. But he realized that he had no talent in drawing so he became a computer software designer, but his ultimate goal in life was to make the first completely computer animated film. Lo and behold, over 20 years after making his first bit of computer animation of his left hand, Catmull produced Toy Story, and the rest is history.

Pixar is so important to me. I grew up in the early 2000's when Disney was at its lowest so none of their movies were worth seeing in theater's. (The exceptions being Emperors New Groove and Lilo and Stitch.) So Pixar and Dreamworks made up for it. (Especially Pixar, Finding Nemo really helped me when my Papaw was in and out of the hospital and his death.) So thank you Pixar for being there for me when Disney couldn't. Y'all truly made my childhood.

FardintheCartoonLover It was Walt Disney feature animation at the time and Disney didn’t buy Pixar until 2007. Disney didn’t take in Pixar until 2007 so Pixar was still it’s own thing.

I do think that the Disney movies of the early 2000s are a bit underrated. Sure they aren't as good as the ones of the 90s (especially the earlier part of the 90s), but they were still pretty decent and they were at least experimenting with some new ideas (they didn't always work, but when they did, the results were usually good). Still, I can't deny that during the latter part of the 90s, Pixar was growing as an animation company, while Disney was starting to decline in quality. By 1999, it was clear that Pixar had surpassed Disney. Throughout the 2000s, Disney was in a bit of a Dark Age (until the Princess and the Frog), while Pixar and Dreamworks were dominating the animation industry. However, Pixar seems to have declined a bit in recent years. There hasn't really been a really good Pixar film since Toy Story 3. They've all ranged from okay (Brave, The Good Dinosaur) to just plain bad (the Cars sequels). Disney on the other hand seems to have picked up in quality since 2009. My only gripe is that they seem to be only doing CGI animation now. Not to mention movies like Frozen and Moana are highly overrated. I don't know, mainstream animation in general seems to be in a slow period in the 2010s.

PIXAR is definitely the best animation studio on the planet, with Dreamworks being either second or tied for first. Both animation studios have made some pretty amazing movies like Up, How to Train Your Dragon, Toy Story, Prince of Egypt, The Incredibles and Shrek, but they have also had those awkward ones in the mix like Cars, Antz, Cars 2, and Shrek 4. So while both studios are amazing and always pushing the limits on animation, I do believe that PIXAR does their work with more heart.

Not really, Pixar has made more classics than dreamworks. How to Train your dragon is great but it's one of the only things Dreamworks has done right. Dreamworks makes good movies sometimes (Shrek, Madagascar, HTTYD) but sometimes they make shit (Antz, Sharkstale, Shrek 3 and 4, Bee Movie). When Pixar makes classic after classic. I would ask Pixar a question, how Toy Story became fast from November 1993-Early 1994 to finished completion mentioned in lunch meeting of summer of 1994 even computers weren't fasted of the time thinking it's the most powerful technology at the time? I am curious about this.
