A run through a Nuaire positive input ventilation installation. These are a great tool in the box for helping with indoor air quality and subsequently condensation and damp. Full video in on my channel. Check it out #piv #nuaire #condensation #mould

I have one fitted, best thing we ever did. 3 inches of condensation on every window every cold morning, wet walls on external walls and mould growing. All eradicated since we got this installed over 2 years ago. Bit colder on the landing but the air is pulled in from the loft space. I had to install vent flaps in between the felt to improve the ventilation in the loft as I was also getting condensation up there but that's also sorted now too.

Hey, I know you posted this comment a little while ago, but did you experience condensation in the loft because you installed this PIV or was it there prior? Just trying to plan ahead for myself, just in case.

@@ZipporahMai I installed it because of condensation. There is a velux window up there which I think the previous owners were duped into installing to increase the airflow. There wasn't any clean air up there at all until I installed the vent flaps under the felt, about 20 vent flaps did the trick and I instantly felt the breeze and fresh air after installing 4 of them. The PIV unit then had the air supply it needed to ventilate the rest of the house. Hope that helps.

Was your loft condensation sorted because of the vents or because of this?
@carlfulton1368
@carlfulton1368 7 ай бұрын
@@nuckythompson835 the vents in the loft solved the condensation up there by allowing air to flow. The PIV unit sorts the condensation in your home by drawing clean dry air from your loft and into your home and replacing the moist air. If it's just a condensation in the loft that's your problem then just install vents between the felt. I used about 20 in my loft, 3 bedroom semi detached.

I live in a bungalow. The loft hatch goes up to a sort of loft conversion. There is loft space either side. So i could fit one that would vent into the hall. Would this work. Not sure if the loft hatch would need closing, sealiing better or left open to move air up there from hall.

My mid terrace house has concrete gutters that bridge the wall cavity. There’s air gaps around the entire length of both outside walls. Would this be a problem with too much air ? I’m getting lots of moisture in the bathroom whilst using the shower. Room is only 9Sqr meters. I’ve tried a ceiling in line extractor ducted to a roof tile vent and a 4” standard extractor fan…neither made any difference.

It’s very difficult to eradicate moisture in a bathroom of that size . A PIV will help alongside a good quality fan. Centrifugal fans are much better than axial as an example. The loft space must be sealed from the habitable space and well ventilated to outside. It should also be dry in itself for the system to work

Was looking at installing this in our home as the small bedroom is affected by dampness and mould on the ceiling in winter.. sometimes we see water droplets on the ceiling. Since the issue is in the room, can this be installed in their? or do i install this on the landing ceiling?
@bbar182
@bbar182 12 күн бұрын
If you have wet ceilings it most likely that the warm air from your radiators is mixing with cold surface on the ceilings. Best thing is to get a small dehumidifier in that room and also insulate above the ceiling or use insulated plasterboard on the ceiling and then skim it.

Dose it also help with condensation in the loft?
@electrician247
@electrician247 Жыл бұрын
Condensation in the loft is generally due to a lack of ventilation in it. Along with the use of loft insulation drastically reducing loft temps perhaps below original design. Ensure any ceiling penetrations are sound such as spot lights and extractors etc. With a well fitted and insulated loft hatch, that soffit vents are in place and clear. Air bricks clear and consult a roofer to see if additional roof vent tiles might be needed. Lofts do produce Condensation which is normal but it should not be excessive. To answer the question pivs won't directly help but all the things we need for them such as those mentioned above will help as byproduct

@@electrician247 Thanks for your reply. Ive bought the vent axia and now after inspecting it wish I had gone for the nuaire as the controls for the vent axia are on the actual fan which means I need to go into the loft every time I want to adjust it.

Does this help with condensation in your loft
@electrician247
@electrician247 6 ай бұрын
No. You will need to seal the loft to house in full. Spot lights, loft hatch, any sealing penetration tightly fitted basically. Then increase ventilation in the loft through soffit vents, tiles vents and possibly some vents between the felt/mebrane. Best to seak advice from a roofer/builder

Does condensation on the wall appear when it rains too or would that be penetration damp? All windows condensation to the extent the it sits on the window ledges. Will the piv help, how much can I expect to pay for fitting?
@bbar182
@bbar182 12 күн бұрын
Condensation can appear on walls if the walls are cold. The warm air hits cold surfaces and you get wet walls. Over time this becomes mould. This unit will cost 350 pounds and maybe another 100 to 150 quid to fit depending where you live and electrician cost or you could fit it yourself and get electrician to just rewire it.

How warm does it heat the air?
@electrician247
@electrician247 8 ай бұрын
It takes the chill off rather than warm I would say lol. It’s variable via the stat but max of around +12 C on loft temps. It seems weird but we found or heating bill fall due to keeping the hot air from heating lower in the house due to the PIV. Hope that helps.

@electrician247

Are the filters in place correctly and ceiling penetration well sealed as the duct exits the loft? Smells are often due to the above. Failing that if you have an especially dusty loft space nox or enhanced carbon filters can help. However 99% of the time its related to the filters or ceiling hole. Either done wrong on installation or knocked/damaged since then. Hope that helps. The products are exceptional.

@@electrician247 Thank you so much for answering, you're very kind... It was installed by a company, specialising in damp and mould, very quickly in under one hour. I wonder did they seal it correctly as you say ... The smell of loft is very strong and almost worse than the damp smell that was there before. ...The problem with my place is humidity and the damp smell associated with that due to lack of air movement because of internal insulation... I was hoping the piv unit would aid the air circulation and make it fresh inside. I'm so upset about it because it cost over two thousand to install and the problem of odour persists... Maybe there's just not enough fresh air up there Even though there isn't even felt under the tiles.. and daylight can be seen..I will check the filters and the seal to the ceiling, anyway. I was thinking of going up there with a bottle of fabreeze if all else fails! Thank you again for your help...I will check out carbon filters too. Hopefully something will fix it. Thanks again . ...

@@jenniferdoyle3969 it is definitely fixable! That is an expensive install tbh! I would expect the filters are either not clipped in or draft getting into the celining opening causing the smell. The PIV shouldnt have been installed if the loft is poorly ventilated itself but generally with slate tiles or tiles with no felt the airflow is fine.

@@jenniferdoyle3969 might be worth installing some lap vents, I'm about to try this in my loft to get clean airflow.
@bbar182
@bbar182 12 күн бұрын
It's not the filters that are the issue. Filters only filter air and not smells. Personally I would fit get a roofer to come and see if they can install some vented tiles or make an opening at either end of the fascias and install grilles so that you get some fresh airflow and that means the bad smell will go away and your piv will pull in fresh air.
