Hey Amanda very intriguing concepts you broke down here in this video, I do have concerns about how this technology will affect the consumers and the current trend of “fast fashion” wouldn’t it enable the individual to buy more clothing with the enhancement of the trying on experience. How do you this technology could make a consumer be more mindful of what they buy without decreasing the satisfaction of the entire experience?

I appreciate your comment and your concern. I think the relationship between fashion, consumers, and VR is an interesting one. VR will enable consumers to purchase more clothes they love since they’ll have the ability to try them on first via their avatars. This means less discarded and returned items, which is actually better for the environment. Perhaps consumers will even be able to use VR to design their own clothes, which will hopefully foster deeper attachment to garments. I also think VR will promote the purchase of virtual goods, not real ones, which is actually good for the environment, too. Along your line of thinking, I’ve seen some cool campaigns aiming to show people where their clothes come from through VR storytelling. The truth is that VR isn’t good or bad for fast fashion. Like any technology, it’s all about how you use it!

Thankyou so much for replying! I definitely understand much more now of the pro side of new technology. I was being a bit pessimistic because it always seems new tech. brings new problems like fast fashion’s new, technically speaking, technological system in selling trendy but cheap clothes. The reason I came upon your video was that i was doing research for a school project. I’m a design student currently working on an innovative product/system that would help consumers shifts towards sustainable clothing. The point I’m trying to make is I’m glad there people like you out there finding and sharing future concepts/knowledge that could definitely benefit and improve our current lifestyle.

@@saint_tac05 Hey! I just stumbled upon your comment and I was wondering what your results in this school project were? :) I am also a design student and currently working on a similar topic (how to use AR and VR in sustainable fashion) and I would be super interested in your research results! Looking forward to hear from you!

Nice presentation, Amanda. My concern with almost all digital/VR simulations of fashion is that the creative product is so geeky, derivative and predictable. Weird spacey themes seem to be the go-to solution. I'm waiting for some good artists to get involved in this field.
@ElectricRunway6 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by geeky? Are you talking about the VR experience or the clothes themselves?

Electric Runway I gess I got Richard`s point. Is there any app that consider our body sizes instead of wearing us with loosy, standard clothes?

I think there are some interesting companies on the horizon that are creating hardware that look more normal to render AR... i.e. glasses and even contact lenses

Hi Amanda, I have just watched your insights about AR and VR video, brilliant and useful presentation that resumes and shows loads of information about AR & VR, all in one presentation. Now im wondering how can I and my consultant firm could make a headstart on developing all this apps and stuff in Latam region. Here we have a development team available and ready to invest on this technlogies, so my question is if you do know any data or info about framework and development platforms to start with all this? Thanks in advance Augusto Ferrari CTO Kaizen Latam Argentina

Hi Amanda, the was a really insightful video. However, you skipped on current 3d apparel design softwares like Clo3d and Marvelous designer; which have taken the 3d apparel design to a whole new level. In terms of the realistic and real-life fabric movement simulations they use to create wearable designs. Not just sci-fi, geeky, clothes. Marvelous designer is collaborating with Sansar, to allow user generated content and online sales of said fashion creations. As you said, gamers are very interested in their avatars digital representation and will pay $$ for clothes in VR environments/worlds. Also, the other future of VR can be full immersive runway shows with 3d apparel clothing by fashion designer. Not just a 360 AR experience of runway shows that have happened, but a full-on runway show that is purely3D apparel, 3d animation merged with VR. It's a lot to go into, but i know you'll get the picture. I 'm currently working on a project that explores just that. This is in hopes of removing the middle men in the fashion industry and helping new designers take their designs from 3d straight to the consumer. We know how expensive and labour intensive creating a fashion line, showing it and mass producing said line is.
