Nice work! Just a quick safety tip: the reason they use tubes is due to bead break while turning hard at high speed. This is especially possible if you are unaware of low pressure. I'm sure you'll be fine on that wheel but if you intend to do any hard riding just be sure to check your pressure and make sure it's over 30psi. 👍🏼😉

Marty whew. Great work getting the tire off. One tip I learned while removing a small tire for a hand truck. Break both beads all the way around. Use a C-clamp to squeeze the tire near the bead if necessary. Then for the side you are trying to remove push and keep the bead of the tire in the center section of the rim, then put your tire iron on the opposite side. The center of the rim is smaller in diameter, and gives the tire more slack to get over the lip of the rim. See 13:45 into this video you can see how much deeper the center section is. Hope you never have to use this trick, but keep it in mind if you ever do.

That technique works excellent. I got my tesla tyre of just using small plastic tools for ordinary bicycle tyres, got one under the edge and bent over the edge as the opposite side was pressed together in the centre. Then clamped the first small plastic btacket under the footrest holder and pushed the next one in and from there it was just a matter of wiggling the tyre and the second tool and off it came fairly easy

I was going to recommend a note or comment at the point you finish the valve install, that tool has a pivot and angled handle for a reason, with a block of wood between the rim and handle future core installers could use the leverage to make that easier. Thanks for the excellent instructions! I was hoping to find longer mileage for a daily commuter. 400 miles may not get me through two years but I think I'll get a wheel to try it out anyway, especially since they're already making these tubeless. I can plug those for most punctures.

Heya just wanted to say thank you, your video was more than useful I have changed my mten3 tire to tubeless. Mounting and removing of the tire was striaght forward however sitting the bead took quiet some time as this was the first time seating a tubeless tire. I achived this not with fire but by seating one side of the tire by hand, using tire lube on the other side, ratchet strapping the tire down quiet tightly, then applying downwards force to the opposite side where the bead was still away from the rim. Lastly a high volume of air with the vavle stem stil in place via an air compressor.

Nice! I like it. Now if Gotway would send them out as tubeless. The color is awesome. I Actually put a plug in my z10 tire the other day because the slime quit sealing the hole. I am amazed that it stayed in perfectly. No leaks at all. I'm thinking about buying another wheel but I haven't decided between 3. MSX, KS18S, or Monster. I'm leaning more towards one of the wheels that I could sit on.. A long journey wheel.

Mine was from the first batch. They later switched to tubeless so any Mten3's bought in the last year or so should be tubeless. Hey Marty, quick note. Ewheels recently converted my Mten3 to tubeless, but apparently the motor casings that Gotway is using now are not airtight and air is leaking out through the motor casing. Have you experienced anything like this? My wheel stays inflated for a few hours but by the next morning is completely flat. I'd hate to see someone go through all this effort and then wind up with a wheel that won't stay inflated. You may want to warn your viewers :)

Hi. Sounds like eWheels maybe didn't fully set the tire against the rim. I highly doubt that there's an issue with the wheel rim? After the tire is installed on the rim a tubeless tire sealant must be added which helps to form a seal between the tire and the rim. Did eWheels do this? If not, you can add it. Both my tubeless Mten3's maintain their pressure for many weeks without me having to add any air.

I can't recall where I saw this, but apparently this tubeless tire is more stable at higher speeds (15-20mph) for this wheel? Also, one of the main knocks on the mten3 is the tramlining at any speed. I doubt a new tire would eliminate this tendency altogether, but do you find tramlining might be less of an issue now? I would love to think about using an mten3 for 1-3 mile round trips to the store and such, but I'm wondering how sane an idea that might be riding a wheel next to traffic if and when it "develops a mind of its own" as it encounters road imperfections. The mten3 I'm looking at has the original tubeless tire and it would be nice to know that at least I'd have a chance of upgrading it's road manners by trying this new tire. (Wrong Way looked kind of uneasy on his 500 kilometer review ride -- I'm pretty sure that was the original tire though) Sorry for the book length comment, any insights at all that you might have would be fantastic.
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 3 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelSTaylor Tramlining is reduced but only slightly. I've never been an advocate of riding the Mten3 above 15-mph because it has the potential to be a very unstable wheel. Always thought it was better at the slower end of the scale and "fun". Certainly a fantastic go-to-the-store wheel (with the trolley handle) but I always stick to the sidewalk. IMHO I'd avoid the Mten3 if your primary use will be sharing the road with cars.
@MichaelSTaylor
@MichaelSTaylor 3 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricUnicycles Well for better or for worse the wheels are already in motion for me to get an mten3 so we'll just see what happens. From all I've watched and read I think I'm still going to love the wheel and it'll be a keeper. Thank you for the heads up especially when it comes to sidewalks and lower speeds. My new modified plan is to just practice a lot to learn the mten3's unique characteristics, and then when I feel ready I will get up super early when there's hardly any traffic and take slow passes on the roads I would regularly use. With any luck I will feel comfortable enough to use those non-sidewalked roads at a slow pace anytime of the day. My guess is 12 to 15 miles an hour will feel like 20 to 25mph on this wheel anyway, and if I take it even slower than that the relatively few times I wouldn't be able to avoid sharing the road with cars, maybe I could learn to tolerate the squirrelly nature of the wheel enough to feel like I can ride pretty safe and slow on known roads next to traffic. If not, I know I can think of plenty of other ways to have fun with this one of a kind wheel. However it turns out it's good that I'm going into this with more knowledge and my eyes wide open so thanks again, Marty!
@marioduddu471
@marioduddu471 3 жыл бұрын
Marty, with personal experience I know that it's not a good idea to use tyre levers if you intend to put a tubeless tyre on the wheel. Levers can cause tiny nicks and dents on rim surface where the beading of the tubeless tyre is meant to sit snugly. Air may start leaking along the beading of the tyre because of the nicks on the rim. You may never know why the pressure is dropping all the time until you take it to a proper tyre mechanic. Best thing is to get the job done at a proper tyre shop.

So was tubeless better? no flats?
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't had any flats yet. But know that the tubeless and tubed version of the Mten3 use the same tire. So of course you can get flats with tubeless tires. Slime should self-repair must flats. But if not, you just patch the tire.

@@ElectricUnicycles - you can still get flats with tubeless tires? I feel ignorant - isn't tubeless supposed to be immune to flats?
@ElectricUnicycles
@ElectricUnicycles 4 жыл бұрын
@@mr.c1989 Of course you can still get flats. Nails, pins, thorns, etc can still pierce a tubeless tire. Tubeless just means that you can often ride at lower tire pressures (more comfortable ride) and you can't get a "snake-bite" type flat (because there's no inner tube). But other flats can and will still happen.

To answer your other question, the tubeless conversion has been holding up just great. You can only convert an EUC to tubeless if you have a tire rated for tubeless. Most are not and that's why very few EUCs have tubeless tires (Mten3 and Z10 currently).

No tire sealant? Ewheels told me to use tire sealant but at the end of the video you said you use slime but you never showed when and how you did that step. Worried my MTen3 is gonna sit decommissioned for yet another 6 months because I don't know what is the right way or not...

I used ~3 ounces of Slime in both my Mten3's. No problems over the last 5-years

@@ElectricUnicycles Hey Marty! It was actually easier than I thought it was going to be. I broke one of the valve stems on the first pull but fortunately I had several at my disposal. I found the hot soapy water helped but also wiggling the wheel slightly left and right with my feet while pulling. The most difficult operation was getting the tire fully on but persistence paid off. Thanks for all you do. ✌

Make sure the tyre is in the rim when you try to get it off. Yours is too high, that's why you struggled.

Is it possible to convert Begode ET Max into tubeless as well? We have an issue with bursting / sheering off valve, which IMO can be super dangerous. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYfbc3WnaKt6rJIfeature=shared kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGaueZZsdq-joMUfeature=shared

Probably but I have to experience doing so. I've never had issues with the valve sheering off. This seems very unusual.

I don’t understand why tubeless is better, now you only have one layer of protection from a flat.

Everyone has different opinions. I've been using Slime successfully on all of my EUC's for ~4-years. It's pretty good garbage :-)
