DJ Rachel, I can't believe I stumbled on this video - this is what my dream cocktail system would look like, to-a-T. Brilliant execution and thought. I've been contemplating buying another Everse 8 and Yorkville mobile sub with small table, but I think I changed my mind. Especially with the 3D printed shelves....what a game changer. Please continue your great content - it's been super helpful for DJs like me stepping back into the arena.

Nice vid Rachel. I would add - one thing many people are unaware of is the crossover point of most column line arrays favors speech intelligibility - keeping the critical “voice” frequencies out of the low frequency driver. Also the tight spacing between the full range drivers make it very resistant to feedback. Love the look of the white EV!

Finally someone said it - thank you - watts don't matter ! stop looking at speaker watts all the time, it's nearly pointless. That being said - a 4 db difference is very very significant. Should be a huge difference in output volume. The problem I do have with these specific spakers compared to say the RCF ones, is that you can't raise the tops higher which is a big problem if you have a really big crowd or even a small crowded one, or if you need the sound to travel to a long distance. Still, great great video as usual. Thank you :)
@DJRachelLynch3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking this out! ☺️ Yes! We need to stop focusing on watts! 💯💯💯 I appreciate you saying so! I have to say the EVOLVE50S have an impressive coverage range. It really does fill the room nicely. I do like that design feature with the RCF’s though! Honestly, if it’s a big crowd, I’m probably bringing a bigger system, so it’s never been an issue for me. I don’t use these at events where they aren’t a good fit. Ya know? I think some have unreasonable expectations for these micro systems. Where I think the 30/50s shine, is the fact that the “loudness” and “warmth”is focused on the dance floor, so people can still socialize around the room and those who sit in the back and just wanna chat or observe aren’t being blasted with music and bass. I really like that they don’t over power the space and allows for people to enjoy the party how they choose (on the dance floor or relaxing). Thanks for stopping by the channel. Enjoy the holiday weekend.

@@DJRachelLynch What a great response. Of course I "stop by" - that's why I'm subscribed ! Honestly, this is probably the best response I ever got from a channel owner - perfectly said on all accounts ! Made me laugh a little about the "expectations" part - very very true, and great point about keeping the sound on the dancefloor - in some events that's even more important for the customers than having more volume... And from now on every time I'll read someone posting an opinion/review about a speaker and focusing on the wattage - I'll be lol'ing as usual but also thinking of you :) No holiday for me - half way around the world in Israel..., but thank you again for taking the time to reply and keep these fantastic videos of yours coming !

Amazing job again DJ Rachel! Really understanding the power of portability with the 30Ms and for ceremony, cocktail, main and fill speakers, game changer! Loving the addition of the iPad (Pro?) with my favorite Djay Pro software. (Still have been learning VDJ, you have more investment in VDJ, but I am hoping to get the Roland 707m mapped to Djay Pro someday!) I have been using my Prime Go for ceremonies, but I do love the quicker/sleeker look, my other thing is I normally have a total of 4 mics; 2 lav mics, one for the officiant & groom (not always for the groom, but 80%), and handheld for readers just in case, and a mic for me to make announcement for unplugged/cocktail instructions, etc.; so that would be my conundrum to work on with the shelves. But LOVE the videos and it is all about streamlining!
@DJRachelLynch3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for checking this out! I love DJAY PRO. The Roland 707M is now my main controller. I have it in my Infinity DJ Console. You could still utilize the additional inputs on the back of the 30M and just bring a small table instead of the shelves like I have. The 30M is still an amazing choice for a ceremony speaker and cocktail hour because it’s small, portable, loud and GREAT sound coverage! Wishing you a fantastic event season!! Stay well. ☺️

Hey DJ Rachel, you’re a smart DJ. Here’s what I do for my ceremony set up, keeping in mind that ceremony doesn’t require loud music or last very long. So for a 200 or less guest ceremonies, I use JBL compact one (it’s battery powered) has more than enough sound for that size ceremonies, plus a sure lapel mic that I run a battery powered it, and I have all the wedding request music on my iPad that links the the JBL via Bluetooth. So far, works great. Oh yes.....I also have a backup battery for the JBL.

@@pauls3880 Respectfully, I don't really like answering questions like this because sound is so personal. What my ears like, yours may not. In terms of performance, it's a simple Google search to find what numbers align with your needs, like SPL and specific coverage patterns. Hello Rachel! I’m a solo musician/singer and not a DJ, however I still really benefited and appreciated seeing your excellent video. 3 questions, did you go for the extended warranty on the EV 30m, or pass? Did you at any point consider the Bose L1 Pro 16? Where did you find the neoprene mat? Thanks very much! I’m starting to lean toward purchasing the 30m even though there are positives (and negatives) to the Bose.
@DJRachelLynch2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for checking this out. Glad it was still helpful. The 30M is a GREAT speaker. 1. I did not get the extended warranty. 2. The Bose S1 has significantly less output than the 30M. If you compare numbers to numbers the 30M is in a different performance class. This is also reflected in the price points between the two. The S1 is only 103 DB and a 6.5 inch sub. The 30M is 123DB and a 10 inch sub. Also the fact that the 30M has an 8 channel Dynacord mixer. It’s a more flexible speaker IMO. 3. The mat came from Amazon. It was a 4 pack.
@Andy1x2 жыл бұрын
@@DJRachelLynch Thanks Rachel! I’m not seeing anyone yet who has splurged for the extended warranty. The subject is a bit controversial, and the cost can get expensive. Thanks for the info on the mat too. 😉. On the other, the one I’m talking about is the Bose L1 Pro 16. Specs say 124db and the sub is a 10x18 racetrack design supposedly equivalent to a 15. The power and output is intense , but the assembly seems like garbage. The column fitting is shoddy and they wobble quite a bit. It seems unstable but users don’t seem to be concerned, which is odd. That aspect and the mixer on the 30m to me seems superior. I think the Bose is capable of supporting a larger venue. Cost with the Bose is $400 higher. Based on awesome videos like yours and my particular needs, the needle is tilting toward the 30m. Too bad Bose cut corners on the assembly of the L1 Pro 16. I’m headed to Guitar center today to revisit a comparison and demo. Thanks again!

If you’re planning on using this as a “main system” at some point the 50M would be better choice. Their is a significant difference between the two as mentioned in the video. The right angled white cables were a special order from NLFX. Link to purchase in description.

Hey Rachel! What a cool set up. It's very compact as well as efficient. Last year I used my Starlight, and it us a work horse. I do like the DJ Pro, but I agree with you about not streaming the music. That would be a disaster, especially if the wifi went out lol. I appreciate all of your videos and great content. #Salute

Good to know!! I have not had a chance to use the Starlight out in the field yet, but I’ve heard great things! Thanks so much for checking this out and your feedback! I’m definitely a big fan of have the music but access streaming to “pad” the database if needed. 💯

Rachel, one more little question... I am using backing tracks for my sax gigs. Never used BT for streaming them through Everse8. I did purchase EVOLVE 30M... Simply no words... it's a DREAM from all perspectives. I am so spoiled with this amazing system that think about using BT for backing tracks playing. I use wireless mike for the sax. So BT could eliminate last wire. I trust in this wire... but trying BT love it. About impossible to detect some difference. The only question about signal drop... If you'll say that you are using in some situation BT for streaming music on EVOLVE for long times and never had a problem it will assure me that I can go and use it. Of course I can simply try and if it will fail at least once I'll forget about it. I am planning for a distance up to 2-3 m from streming device to Evolve. If you have a sec please provide your experience on this matter. Thx. Michael.

I’ve used BT. It works well. Like any wireless connection, there is always SOME risk. It can work 1,00,0000 times but then you get to that one venue that has something that competes for that signal and boom it cuts out. I’d try it. I’d still always have a wire available, for the just in case. If you’re within a reasonable range of the speaker I’d say give it a go.

Are you using a standard Ipad case or have you found something that gives more protection and still be able to use the Hub?

I use a simple inexpensive “clear rubber” case and a anti glare screen protector. Everything was probably $30. Works great. Not bulky or heavy and allows me to plug in the hub.

Great video and breakdown! I’m a beginner DJ and have a quick question. I live in a small rural area in KY where people don’t invest much in DJs for weddings. I have the same Starlight controller. You said it would be good for ceremony/cocktail hour/a backup. If I had an external mixer, do you think the Starlight would be suitable for a reception also? Most “DJs” in my area literally just plug a laptop into a mixer and play a playlist, no actual mixing, so I’m wondering if the Starlight would be suitable for ceremonies until I get the hang of it.
@DJRachelLynch2 жыл бұрын
There is no right or wrong here. 🙂 As long as you can deliver the services and performance you promised to your client and do so reliably then use what works for you. There are lots of great second hand controllers out there that will offer more flexibility and premium inputs/outputs. Of course this would be suitable for ceremonies/cocktail hour. That’s the whole point of the video. 😉 All the best to you on your DJ journey. Thanks for stopping by the channel.

Hey dj rachel thanks for this video.. My question is how come u just dont use the ipad to the 30m using bluetooth why use a controller ?
@DJRachelLynch2 жыл бұрын
IMO Bluetooth shouldn’t be used in professional applications. A direct audio wire connection is more reliable. Bluetooth can have issues with interference and dropouts. For the 3 seconds it takes the plug in a audio wire, it’s worth it for the reliability. My clients deserve perfection, so I do what I can to make sure my performance and audio is reliable. Bluetooth is a consumer grade feature. The controller is so I can mix music during cocktail hour if I want. It’s hard to mix music with your fingers on an iPad.

Hello. Do you mic up groom/bride for vows. If so what do you use? I’ve been getting requests lately to have them mic’d up. Thank you so much for this video I have all the same equipment and I’m about to order the shelves from the company you recommended. Love your videos! Can’t wait to be streamlined and work smarter not harder! One other thing I want to do is upgrade my wireless microphone system if you can provide links as to who you recommend to buy the EV Microphone system I greatly appreciate it too
@DJRachelLynch3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by the channel! I almost never mic the bride. I do the officiant and groom only. Their mics are enough to amplify the bride. I highly recommend the Electro-Voice RE3 for a mic (shown here). You can get the “ BPT” (body pack for ceremonies). Ben Stowe from NLFX Professional is your guy. I wouldn’t order a microphone from anyone else!

@@DJRachelLynch I just visited their page for the system. Can you use 2 body packs with the one receiver on same channel. I was under the impression you had to have a two channel receiver. Sorry For all the questions I’m just trying to buy everything once and set it up before my next wedding in June

@DJRachelLynch3 жыл бұрын
I would not feel comfortable putting a laptop on this shelf. I’m not saying he couldn’t design something, but what you see here would not support your average laptop IMO. The brackets are designed to fit the square shape of the pole you can mount them in any direction.

Rachel, what does the compressor do on the electro voice 30 M, what would you use it for? Thanks, Paul.
@DJRachelLynch Жыл бұрын
It is designed to regulate the dynamic range of audio signals by reducing the volume of loud sounds and boosting softer sounds. DJs use compressors for several reasons. Firstly, it helps to smooth out the audio levels, ensuring a more consistent and balanced sound. This is especially useful when playing tracks with varying volume levels or when transitioning between songs. Secondly, compressors can help protect the speakers and amplifiers from damage caused by sudden spikes in volume. By reducing the peaks, compressors prevent distortion and clipping that can harm the equipment. Overall, the compressor allows DJs to achieve a polished and professional sound, while also safeguarding their equipment.

I think the mini controller is a little overkill you could do away with that you don’t need it but good luck to you. I have two identical laptops I bring to every gig. When I do ceremony and cocktails I just use my other laptop.
@DJRachelLynch3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lou. Thanks for stopping by the channel. I appreciate your time to check this out. I recall in the video saying you could absolutely use your just your finger (no controller needed), but I like having the one available. I don’t need to “DJ” the ceremony, however, I like having physical buttons to use rather than use my finger. It’s more comfortable for my workflow. I also am using the small controller as a way to “pre-cue” and hear the music. I was bringing a Roland 707M previously for my ceremony and cocktail so this makes much more sense IMO. As for cocktail hour I absolutely do “DJ” it. I don’t drag up mindless playlist and just let them run. I think cocktail hour is a great way to prime the crowd and build energy before the grand entrances. 🙂 In fact, this is where the majority of my crowd reading happens. Who’s drinking? Who’s tapping their foot? What’s the vibe or their party level? I can take chances musically and see what works and far I can push them. It’s a missed opportunity for many DJs. Cocktail hour is one of my favorite parts of the event! So I put in the extra effort to mix and I feel I can do that better with this little controller. I also like the fact I can also use it as an emergency backup unit or something happened to my main one. The best part about this job is there are million ways to do it. I love seeing how others execute their events and brainstorm.

Why haven't these companies that produce mic systems started offering a white color option?
@DJRachelLynch3 жыл бұрын
Interesting idea! I’m sure there wound be a market for it! I think the easy answer is cost and adding an additional skew. The white speaker trend is relatively new so maybe it hasn’t caught up yet with other DJ item.

How much weight or stress can be put on the EV pole adding all these shelves with hardware on them? What does the manufacturer of the EV Speaker say about put all that stress on the pole?
@DJRachelLynch5 ай бұрын
People attach entire Chauvet gig bars to these things so this isn’t even close to the same weight. It’s obviously not recommended by the manufacturer but the self is basically weightless. The heaviest thing is the iPad.

All DJ software offers the same fundamental features. Both are professional. Both a great programs. It really boils down to your workflow preference and what bells and whistles are important to you. I prefer VDJ as it has some features that are important to me like STEMS, auto mix for cocktail/dinner, and their file management ability. I’ve been a faithful VDJ user for 15+ years. It fits my mixing style and event needs to best, but you may feel differently. My best advice is try both. Be comfortable on both. And choose which one suits your needs best. 👌🏻💯

hello DJ Rachel i have a question for you i am a beginner and i would like to know how do i directly store the music into my ipad
@DJRachelLynch2 жыл бұрын
1.iTunes is Apple's solution for you to transfer files between your computer and iPhone/iPad. 2.Cloud-based storage services like Dropbox, Google Play Music, and Amazon enables you to share files across your devices that use the same account. To get music from the computer onto your iPad, you can upload the songs to the cloud storage and then access and download these items to your iPad from its app. All these cloud services work similarly. 3.Downloading music on iPad directly is convenient but you need to pay for the items. 4. Or use a streaming service like Tidal or beatsource Link.
